Chapter Chapter thirty seven
Raul, Victoria and I moved into this house couple months ago. It's in a forest from the town Cooperstown. Citizens here loathes us so we keep our distance.
How we receive our blood is when people trespass into our land. It's our territory. We've warned them but they don't listen so they pay the price.
I'm out on a walk alone reflecting on my mortal life. How he inflicted pain on me. Mother never did anything to stop him. She just let it happen and never cared. They both lost their title as parents long time ago.
All I want to do is move forward and forget about it. Soon enough I will.
The clouds form a grey sky. A faint rumble of thunder can be heard in the distance. I continue walking not caring in the world.
Ever since Raul and Victoria took me in under their wing, I've had trouble fully trusting them yet but I trust them eventually.
I haven't told them about my father only the important information. I don't think I'll ever tell them about my father.
As the leaves crunch beneath my feet faint voices can be heard. I pick up the pace towards the voices.
"So what?! You're nothing!" The voice, sounding like a man based on the deep rusty voice, screamed.
Jogging, I come up to a group of boys and two girls. I hide behind a tree watching the situation unfold.
The four guys and two girls surround the black person who looks no older than me.
One of the pale girls with shoulder length auburn hair creeps up towards him leaning in towards his neck. The guy jerks away from her but the olive tan boy grasps his arms as the girl grabs his neck and bites it. His screams fills the air as I rush towards them.
"Hey! Leave him alone!"
They jumped at my sudden appearance and bolts the opposite the way I came. Kneeling down I don't examine the bite. He's in a lot of pain right now. The transformations are always painful when the insides are freezing up.
All the lungs and the veins are freezing up.
"It's okay. Everything's going to be okay," I whisper even though he can't hear me. I pick him up wrapping his left arm around me neck so he's standing next to me. I wrap my right around his waist and I drag him towards home.
When I get home Raul and Victoria spots me dragging a random person.
"He's been bitten," I exclaim.
"Bring him over here," Raul exclaims as Victoria came to help me. We bring him to the couch gently laying him. Raul went to get a bottle of blood. We had very limited blood but this guy will need it.
It only took ten minutes for him to gain consciousness.
He stirred prying his eyes open. Glancing around the room his eyes landed on us.
"W-who are you? A-and what am I doing here?" His voice sounded scratchy.
"Don't be scared of us. Blade brought you here cause you were bitten. I'm sure your thirsty." Raul handed him the bottle and he gulped it down.
"Thank you."
"No problem. I'm Raul Crane, this is my wife, Victoria and this is Blade Ramose."
I softly wave at him and he returns it.
"Who are you?" I ask.
"Keir Vance."
-
"Blade," he spat.
"Carl," I hiss back.
"That's father to you," he growls.
I shake my head at his statement. Coming face to face with "father" really sets off all of the emotions I've kept locked inside a chest all these years. Finally I'll be able to set them free.
His eyes land on the crest that's resting beside me. "You've got it. Where did you get that?"
I smirk. "Oh this?" I question while stroking the ancient wood which infuriated him.
"You have no right to touch that."
"You have no right to claim Cooperstown as your own."
He lunges at me but I stopped him when I brought my lighter out.
"One more step and this goes up in flames!"
Everyone seemed shocked at my statement, except for Roland and Marie. Carl flashes his fangs at me but he doesn't scare me anymore.
Ever since I transformed into a blood sucking creature, my old self died. I became a bigger, better, stronger person. I'm not frightened by him like I used to be and he's going to know that.
"You wouldn't fucking dare."
"I will."
My fingers tapped against my leg signalling Roland to call the vampire police which they'll take him to Veran, a vampire prison that no one escapes from. The vamps would be lucky to be alive after a few years. As he's on the phone sneaking away as he's talking on the phone.
"You've got one last chance to pack your things and go," I order.
"Never. You've changed Blade."
"Yeah. I'm not your scared little boy that would do anything. He died a long time ago."
"Well then, show me what you got."
He lunged at me and I lunged at him. We fought back and forth as we each took our turns laying on top of one another punching each other. At some point, I was thrown off of him.
The lighter slid away from me.
Thunder roared in the sky as rain started pouring down. The others started circling us ready to fight against him.
"Everybody run! I've got this!" I yelled towards them. They all started leaving but Sarah. I need her to run.
"Sarah! Get to safety now!"
"No I'm not leaving you!"
Lennix started pulling her away but she fought back.
"Sarah run! This is my fight! Go to safety!"
As the rain started pouring hard, I couldn't tell if she was crying or the rain but I need her to run.
"Run Sarah! I'll be there."
She gazed at me before turning and running away.
Before I got up I felt a foot stomping on my back pressing harder. I scream in pain as I hear a crack. The pressure on my back released and I peak up. His significant sly smirk appears on his nasty face.
"I'm not the scared little boy," he mocked
Facing the pain I pull myself up facing the person I despise the most. Scanning the field, the lighter is a three feet away from me and the shield is two feet away as Carl and I stand between. Thinking of my options I have to play it well. Carl stands in a fighting position ready to fight when I turn around running towards the lighter knowing he'll chase after me, but at the last second I turn and punch him across the face catching him off guard.
Backing away from me I run to grab the lighter and booking pass him. I couldn't feel the rashes appearing on my skin from the rain, but now I'm starting to feel it. Grabbing onto the crest I spin around having the lighter ready. Carl stopped.
"This is it Carl. You will pay for your actions!"
Without I thought, I started the lighter bringing it close to the wood. The whole crest lit up in flames as I let it burn. The thunder crashed above us as I watch my father stop the burn.
The rain put out most of the fire helping my father. By the time it stopped, the crest is fully burned where you can't even see the colours.
"What have you done? What have you done?!"
I watch as he broke down.
"This is your price. After everything you've done I finally get to see you suffer. Feel the pain I felt. What Roland felt," I hissed.
Police sirens are ears in the distance. I smirk.
"You're going to jail."
The vamps bolts towards Carl grasping his arms, yanking him off the ground.
"Make sure he doesn't escape. Be careful, he's a sneaky one."
Both of them nodded and took them away.
I smile that he's finally gone. Out of my world. Out of Roland's world. We're safe.
Taking one last glance towards the crest I turn and walk home not second glancing back about my whole past life.
