Evil Angels

Chapter 7

Emma’s POV

I have been asking around for some time about the murder in the field but no one knows who that girl was. Deputy Hales stopped by the store a few times and has reassured me they are working on it, I am starting to doubt it.

There has to be someone out there that knows her.

I sat down on my bed taking off my work boots and rubbing my feet.

Today was a rough day.

I heard a rustle outside and I instantly grabbed my rifle. I opened my curtain to see a coyote passing through my yard.

Oh god I am getting paranoid now.

I put my rifle back against the wall and changed out of my work clothes. Laying down in my bed, I heard another noise outside and shot up from under my blankets.

This is going to be a long night.

I woke up in the morning, half asleep. I barely got any sleep, so I made some coffee.

Thank god it is my day off.

I grabbed my coffee and went out to my porch to sit in my rocking chair. I looked up towards the castle that sat on top of the hill and noticed a huge thing flying around in the sky above it.

There are some pretty big birds out today. That’s strange, they almost look like angels.

I am probably just really tired or something.

I went to wash out my mug then jumped in my truck to drive into town. As I was passing the fields, I saw a figure standing out by where the body was found. I pulled over and jumped out to see who it was.

Andy?

“Hey, Andy. What are you doing out here?”

He looked back at me, “Oh hey, I was just looking around a bit. This is where they found her, right?”

“Yeah… how did you get all the way out here? You don’t drive.”

He looked towards the direction of town, “Oh… I walked.”

“From Shirley! That is at least a thirty minute walk for me and for you it’s double that.”

He laughed, “It was nice to get out for awhile.”

Has he gone crazy?!

“Come on, Andy. I am taking you back to Shirley. You are too old to be out here alone.”

We both hopped into my truck and started the drive to town. Andy stared out the window at the sky as we passed the fields.

I can at least try to get some answers from him.

“Andy, what were you looking at out there?”

He laughed again, “I was trying to figure out who did it. It’s been awhile since there was a murder around this town. And come to think of it, that girl seems a little familiar to me but I don’t know why.”

“You knew her?”

He shook his head, “Not personally. She is just familiar. Something about her feels like I should know her. Do you know where they put her body?”

“In the morgue, I am pretty sure. Isn’t that where all dead bodies go?”

He sighed, “I will ask the Sheriff to see her then.”

“Why do you want to see her?”

He narrowed his eyes at me, “I want to see if I know her. Don’t you want to figure out who she is?”

I sighed, “Yes… I have pictures the Sheriff gave me if that will help.”

His eyes brightened up, “It would. Thank you.”

We fell into silence the rest of the drive and I dropped him off at the General Store. I handed him a few pictures and he examined the scratches and bite marks on her skin.

“Do you think it was an animal or something?”

He shook his head and continued to stare at the picture. After a few moments his eyes narrowed and he whispered to himself, “Evils.”

He handed the pictures back to me, “Emma, stop asking around about this. Let the Sheriff do her job… I will see you at work tomorrow.”

He closed my door and walked off into the store.

What the hell just happened?
