Emerald Luna

Chapter 20

(This was based on our experience of our kitten wandering into our yard during summer '21 just changed it around for a dog. I’m trying to get to the good part of going back to the necklace and back to the action so don’t worry it’s coming!)

The weekend has been exactly what I needed. Ironically, during this cabin adventure, we found a stray dog who looked like it needed help. We gave it food, water and shelter just in case it was a stray instead of someone in their wolf form. Either way, I wasn’t going to let this poor guy go hungry.

“So, since we found this dog, what are we going to do with him?” I asked Alarick after we finish breakfast.

“If it is a stray and not just someone in their wolf form, I don’t see a problem taking it in. We’ll have to go into the city to get dog supplies. Dog bed, toys, food, bowls the normal dog-type things. This little fella should be quite comfortable here, with us.” I couldn’t help but smile when he agreed to take it in.

“Oh, thank you!” I hug him tightly and kiss his cheek. I’ve always wanted a pet, but my parents thought it’d be weird to have a dog in a wolf pack. After clearing breakfast, I went to the front porch where I found the stray still there eating its breakfast with the little actual dog food we had here. It looked like it was a mutt between German shepherd, husky and gray wolf. It was an enormous dog, but it’d fit in with our pack no problem. He’d be a great guard dog along with the other guys we have watching the border, but this one could watch from closer to us. I kept it company, petted it, and tried to offer my lap but he’s the type of dog who thinks he’s a lap dog and clearly isn’t. Couldn’t tell if it’s male or a lady but whatever it was it’s strong and heavy. Its amber eyes look like they could look into your soul. When it rolled onto, its belly for a rub I could definitely tell it was a boy. The fur was kind of matted but I guess that’s from being outside for so long so I may have to bathe it sometime.

“What do you think we should name him? If I didn’t look around on my phone to figure out what dog it was, I would’ve thought it was one of our own in wolf form, but nope it’s a wolf-dog.”

“Not sure, what do you think? He’s so huge it should fit him, but nothing too cliché.” I agree, it needs to fit him. Not like calling it Tiny and this huge dog shows up.

“What about Hunter?” He’d be a wonderful hunting dog so I think it’d fit.

“Possible, what about Lupin since he has more of a gray wolf’s appearance?” Alarick had a point it’s a friendly nod to the Latin name for dogs.

“Not bad. What about Smokey after the mountains?” We both think about it and bounced ideas for a while.

“I think it’s between Smokey or Whiskey. Both fitting for where we leave and he responds to both so we’ll just keep calling him both names and see which one he responds to better.” I can’t argue with that logic. I haven’t had a dog before and having a cat in a wolf pack just seemed like a bad idea. We eventually let him in the cabin where he can spend more time with us. I just wonder how this big guy made his way to here. I hope it’s not someone else’s dog that’s missing… well he didn’t have a collar so I presume not or maybe the owner abandoned it. That’d be sad… either way he can stay with us. The next day we pack up the cabin to head back to the pack and while at the cabin I sent a mind link to Violet to get some dog stuff from the city for our new furry friend. We didn’t bring much to the cabin, but we packed our bags and headed back.

When we came back with the dog, everyone was surprised that it wasn’t someone in their wolf form and actually a dog. Everyone seemed to accept him as one of our own just like they had with me and Violet.

“Welcome back, did you have a pleasant time over the weekend?” Koa walks up to us with a little pep in his step.

“Yeah, we did thanks for holding down the fort for us.” Alarick smiled at his friend and coming from the garage I see Violet coming in with the dog stuff.

“Oh, let me help you with that!” I run up to her and help her bring in the dog supplies. We eventually landed on Smokey. He seemed to like it and we weren’t arguing. Food was put in the kitchen, along with extra bowls for him, the XL dog beds were spread out throughout the packhouse. One in the living room, one on the porch, and one in our room. Since having Smokey around it’s nice to have an extra guard dog around.

“Thanks, Violet for getting all this for us, he just seemed to come out of nowhere.” His arrival may be a mystery for now, but I’m happy to keep him.

“No problem, you know for a pack full of wolves it’s surprising we don’t have actual dog food.”

“Who’d want to eat that stuff unless they’d have to, but I guess it’s good for him.” He usually stays by my side since we met and I do love dogs.

“Well, at least he knows who the luna is.” She crouches down to him. “Don’t forget who the alpha is.” We both chuckled at the thought of Smokey and Alarick fighting over me. I show him around the packhouse, our room, the backyard garden, where his beds are, where his food is. Normal stuff for a dog. I took it upstairs to our bathroom to bathe it and get it all cleaned up so we could see how he really looks without all this matted fur.

Thanks to some intel from inside the pack I could figure out where the alpha and luna were going for the weekend and where their pack is. Now we can grab the luna and use her for her power! When we’re done with her, our… new friend will have her. This is going to be fun…
