Chapter Chapter Thirty Seven
I’m staring at a white ceiling. Welcome home. For so long I feared ending up back in this room, now I don’t care. In fact I’m happy. Finally amongst the twisted corpses of my past selves I can sleep. I’m in one of those ugly dreams where you dream yourself to be lying in bed exactly where you fell asleep, so you can’t tell if you’re really dreaming at all. For a while there is only calm, the beeping of the machines and the depthless white ceiling. Then I start to feel a curious sensation in my fingers and toes, something warm and scratchy like four tiny paws trailed by a thin rope-like tail.
The tiny noses are slightly damp as they trace up my limbs sniffing. Slowly they crawl up my naked flesh leaving goosebumps in their wake. I feel the first bite on my neck and then they all attack at once, devouring every inch of my flesh. I try to scream, but I can’t. They are on my face ripping at my lips with their tiny teeth. Slowly they devour my eyes. The sound is torture, the grinding of teeth, the scratching of claws and the swishing of tails. It gets louder and louder until they seem to be speaking together in chorus. “I want to bite.”
The machine beeps and my brain responds beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep. It’s is quite funny if you think about it. Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep. Giggles rack my frame as a grin stretches from ear to ear exposing my bared my teeth. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. The sky is smog, my back is hard the machine it beeps and I laugh. It’s all great fun, it really is. Beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. My toes bob up and down with every beep, my ankles do too, but they don’t seem to move. My fingers tap, and my wrists are dancing too, but they don’t seem to move either. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
