Ecstacy of the Heart

Chapter 20 Taboo Subject

Allison thought for a long time and couldn't think of a good way to mention it.

But no matter what happened, Professor Gibson's birthday was an important day. Since she had been officially married to Alexander, going out for a meal as a family should not be a big issue.

She should simply ask Alexander and seek his opinion. Allison sighed after making her decision and only after this weight was off her chest was she able to fall asleep. It was already the next afternoon when she saw Alexander. Allison was bored to tears when she heard the sound of a car approaching. She ran to the window and saw a familiar car downstairs.

Before long, there was some noise along the corridor leading to the study. Allison pushed open the door and just as she reached the staircase, she saw Lara serving a freshly brewed pot of tea. Allison asked softly, "Lara, is Alexander back?"

"Yes, master just came back. But he doesn't look pleased. He looked upset."

"Ah?"

Allison became nervous immediately. She was waiting for Alexander to come back to tell him about her father's birthday arrangements. But she didn't expect that he would be having a foul mood today. Lara was puzzled and asked, "What's the matter, missus?"

"Nothing, nothing." Allison said. Her eyes looked at the serving tray and took it over from Lara, "Lara, give me the pot of tea. I'll serve them to him."

"Okay, be careful."

After taking over the tray, Allison took a deep breath and walked to the study.

No matter what, this issue cannot be delayed. Jennifer had already booked the restaurant and had already sent her the address. If she didn't resolve it on her end, then she will be severely scolded by Jennifer.

Allison knocked on the door.

"Come in."

When she heard the man's voice, Allison picked up her courage and went into the room. Alexander was sitting at the desk and looked sternly into the computer display. His expression was much colder than usual.

Allison served the tea to his desk and said softly, “This tea is brewed by Lara. I'm here to bring it to you."

"Okay."

Alexander calmly answered but didn't raise his head.

Allison paused, poured the tea for him, and then asked, "Today... you must be tired from work."

"It's okay." Alexander said warmly and looked at her, "Have you changed the dressing on your neck?"

"Oh... yes."

The man's sudden show of concern took her by surprise, "Erm..."

Alexander looked at her, "What else is there?"

Allison forced a smile and faked a casual query, “Nothing important. I just wanted to chat with you. I came for several days already and have never seen your parents. I'm actually rather curious about your parents..."

Before she could finish, she realized that Alexander's expression had significantly darkened. She then stopped and felt strangely guilty, hesitated before asking, “I... did I say something wrong?" Alexander looked very stern and cold but was suppressing his feelings. A while later, he stood up and stared at Allison, and said sternly, "Allison, are you too idle?"

What he said had some truth to it and Allison paused and didn't know what to say. "I..."

Alexander frowned and stepped forward towards her and said coldly, "If I were you, I will put my time on the job and figure how to quell the gossips and not focus on those pointless and unrelated matters!" After saying these, Alexander glared at her and stormed out of the room. Allison stood on the spot and her mind was a blank. She never expected that he would become so upset when she only asked about Alexander's parents. Furthermore, they had officially married and were a family. His parents were now considered hers so it was natural that she wanted to understand. So how could it be pointless and unrelated?

Unless Alexander never considered her as part of the family. That thought flashed across her mind and Allison's heart sank and she was quite disappointed. Although from the beginning when she registered for marriage with Alexander, she didn't expect him to be deeply in love with her, from the looks of it, they were no different from two strangers.

Allison was sad and dejected. She heard the sound of the car engine starting up and then fading into the distance before walking out of the room.

Lara hurried towards the room and asked, "Missus, what just happened? Why did master leave suddenly?"

Allison wrung her hands, lowered her head, and said softly, "Lara, I think I've upset him again."

"This... what happened?"

With Lara's queries, Allison related to her what had happened. When Lara heard about her questions about Alexander's parents, Lara's expression also changed.

"Missus, so you don't know! As for master, his parents are a taboo subject!"

Allison looked in surprise, "What? A taboo subject?"

This was the first time she heard that his parents were a taboo subject!

"Yes, his mother had a difficult life and died when master was twenty years old. Madam died of illness and wanted to see Old master for a final time but he was busy with some official matters and couldn't get back in time. From then on, a huge gap developed between master and his father ..."

Lara let out a long sigh and continued, "Master isn't close to his father and does not want anyone to ask about his parents, so..."

Allison listened quietly to all that Lara said and finally understood why Alexander had such an intense reaction.

"Then... what should I do?"

Putting aside the matter of inviting his parents for her father's birthday, now that she had stumbled onto his taboo subject, how was she going to appease Alexander?

Lara consoled softly, "Missus, you don't have to be so hard on yourself. You didn't know about it. Just wait for master to calm down and things will be alright."

Although that sounds sensible, Allison felt a huge boulder weighing down on her. She took a deep breath and asked, "Lara, please teach me, what can I do to express my apologies to him? I really didn't do it intentionally..."

"Master loves the sea cucumber spare ribs soup made by me. Why don't I teach you and you can prepare it personally for him?"

Allison's eyes lit up and immediately agreed, "Okay!"

Instead of words of apology, she can express her regret by cooking something for him. She high-fived Lara and Allison immediately followed Lara into the kitchen and started learning from Lara. After she labored in the kitchen for two hours, Allison finally grasped Lara's secret recipe.

Early the next morning, Allison rushed down to the kitchen and took over the spare ribs that Lara just bought and began to prepare the soup.

She had already thought about it. Once the soup was ready, she will take it to the company for Alexander. Perhaps after drinking the soup Alexander would no longer be angry and perhaps will attend her father's birthday celebrations with her.

She will be contented if he attended even if his parents could not.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
