Chapter 9
Chapter 9
At the end of that day, Timothy and Mia had to stay in jail for fifteen days for their unauthorized grave digging.
It was a pity that I didn’t have enough evidence to prove they did it on purpose. Otherwise, they would stay in jail for at least three years.
It was a night half a month later. I received a call from Timothy’s friend.
“Evie, I know you were mad at Timothy. How could you send him to jail?
“Timothy drank a lot and said you broke his heart, and he cried so miserably!”
“So, he cried. That’s good to hear.
He hurt me. Why should he live so carefree?” I thought.
“If you’re cool with someone digging up your family’s grave, you can continue to blame me. Otherwise, just stay out of it.”
“What do you mean?”
I rubbed my brows and said, “Timothy dug up my grandfather’s grave and scattered his ashes. Why can’t I send him to jail?
“What would you do if you were me?”
Timothy’s friend sighed silently and persuaded me,
“But Timothy will end up sick if he keeps drinking like this!
“You two are a couple, and couples should care for each other. Hurry up and take him back!”
“Take him where?” I wondered.
I sneered, “You’ve called the wrong person. His wife is Mia Adrian.”
“What the hell? Didn’t you and Timothy have a wedding? Even if he ran away halfway, you are still his
wife.”
So, no one else knew that Timothy and Mia had obtained their marriage certificate, not even Timothy’s best friend.
“Timothy left me at the altar that day to get the marriage certificate with Mia!”
Timothy’s friend was utterly shocked, and after he came to his senses, he cursed Timothy,
“F*ck! Was Timothy crazy? I can’t believe he did it!”
Amid the noise, Timothy’s drunken mumblings came over on and off,
“Evie… Evie… I’m sorry…‘
་་
But I remained calm as I spoke into the phone,
“Don’t call me over his affairs again!”
Hanging up the phone, I stared at it in a daze.
I had loved Timothy for ten years, and I thought I would stay with him forever. But I didn’t expect that, in the end, I would be the one to leave.
When he had acute hepatitis, I donated my liver to save him without hesitation. I thought that nothing would separate us and that our love would transcend life and death.
But I forgot that times change. So do people’s hearts.
