Chapter 832
Connor left, and Claire felt a chill run down her spine, as if she had been pulled into a decades-long whirlpool of darkness. Chloe was waiting in the car for Connor. As soon as she saw him step out of The Garden, she drove over to him.
Connor slid into the car, looking troubled. "Didn't I tell you to stay at home?" he said.
Chloe's voice was soft with concern. "I was worried about you."
Connor's heart softened at her words. He turned and wrapped Chloe in a tight embrace. She didn't quite know what was going on, but she could feel the slight tremble in Connor's shoulders. Gently, she patted his back, trying to soothe him. "Did you have a fight with her? Don't let it get to you. She's not worth it. You've got me, and that's all you need."
Connor buried his face in Chloe's long hair, the familiar scent and warmth finally easing the tension in his body. "Chloe, you're not going to leave me, right?"
Chloe was taken aback by Connor's sudden vulnerability but reassured him tenderly, "I won't. I never will."
"You need to be by my side forever."
"Of course."
"You can never leave me."
"Alright."
Connor finally calmed down, and he started explaining what had happened. Chloe listened, a hint of worry creasing her brow. "Cornering someone can be
dangerous, Connor. I'm a bit worried."
Their wedding was just around the corner, and she knew Claire wouldn't make it easy for them. If Claire

caused trouble at the wedding, it wouldn't just be

"If things get too dicey, maybe we should call off the wedding," Chloe suggested.
Connor let go of Chloe, fixing his gaze ahead. "Don't worry, she won't be at our wedding," he said, a steely resolve in his eyes. "Tomorrow, it all ends."
The next day brought chaos at Eldridge Entertainment. Just before the company could announce its bankruptcy, the vice president vanished overnight, taking a hefty sum of company funds with him. The news hit Claire like a lightning
She had recently soldoff
nearly everything of value she owned-jewelry, antiques trying to keep Eldridge Entertainment afloat. It was a temporary fix, buying her some time to find the legendary treasure of the four families that could save the company.
The funds from her sales had been managed by the vice president, a significant amount of money. She never imagined he'd skip town with it instead of investing it back into the company. Connor's words from the night before echoed in her mind: that Eldridge Entertainment would collapse today. She had dismissed him, never thinking it would unravel like this. Now, she really had nothing left.
Claire sat there, stunned, trying to process the series of blows she'd been dealt. It felt like everyone she trusted had turned their back on her. She had treated them well, so why was she the one left all alone?
