Demon (BoyxBoy) Book 1

Chapter 40

TW: Slight Violence

Seth’s POV

″I’ll be back before dinner, baby... watch over Nebi for me,″ I whispered to him against the pouring rain. We stood at our doorstep as the storm brewed- Nebi held tightly against my chest.

I handed Nebi to Jaxon carefully. He took him in his arms, Nebi instinctively wrapping his arms around Jaxon’s neck.

I pulled the hood over my head, clasping my hands together. My scythe appeared in my hands in the form of smoke.

Jaxon suddenly leaned in, pulling up the hood slightly and placing a warm kiss onto my lips.

″Try to enjoy yourself, Angel. I know it may be hard... but bring happiness to the children’s eyes.″ Jaxon said as he pulled away from my lips.

Ever since the war ended... I have taken my job as the Grim Reaper more seriously than before. I would let my Scythe do all the work... I’d feel as I’d collect a soul, but my Scythe would send the soul to hell or heaven itself.

Since I wasn’t King anymore, or a Kingdom to run itself... I’ve decided to do some of the collecting myself. I decided that I would only visit the elderly or children who would perish to either heaven or Elysium. I could never do every single soul... I would never return home. There are thousands of souls who perish each minute... it helps me realize how fragile life is. Though my family is immortal... it still pains me.

I refuse to comfort the people who perish to the fields of punishment... they are going there for a reason.

-----------------------------------

I watched from a distance. They beat the young girl with their fists, bats... anything they could hurt her with. I couldn’t go and save her... I was only seen by those who perished at the moment. These people... they were definitely going to the fields of punishment for all of eternity. When their times come... I will not be there to comfort them. I’ll make sure of it... they will have a special place in the fields of punishment, just like Avel.

She screamed out in pain, begging them to stop. She screamed out for her mother, she screamed out for her father... but nobody would save her. Tears poured down her face as they beat her brutally; she was only eight years old. The tears mixed into the blood that spilled down her face... it made my stomach turn.

I watched as her body finally fell limp.

I watched as she separated from her body. She gazed at the men as they laughed at her worldly body- kicking it with no remorse.

I slowly made my way over to her; her body shaking with sadness as she cried. She hasn’t noticed me yet- her tears were clouding her vision. I could see her more clearly now- she had black hair down to her waist, her eyes an icy blue color.

″Darling, don’t cry...″ I murmured. She froze in fear, wiping her tears away from her blue eyes.

″P-Please don’t hurt me, please...″ She said to me. I immediately sunk to my knees in front of her, placing down the Scythe on the ground and holding up my hands in the air.

″I promise I won’t hurt you, sweetheart... You’re safe now. I promise.″ I whispered to her. Her icy blue eyes grew wider at my words... until she began sobbing once more. I hated seeing children cry... It reminded me of Nebi. My sweet Nebi...

″A-Am I dead?″ She whispered to me.

I immediately extended my arms out to her, motioning for her to join me in an embrace. She didn’t hesitate as she threw herself into my embrace, crying heavily against my chest. I’ve been known to soothe the children in their passing... they grow trust with me very easily. I suppose that’s why my son Nebi was so attached to me when we first found him... I have that effect on children.

″Those men didn’t know how wonderful you were, sweetheart... God has a special place for you in heaven. Would you like to hear about how beautiful the palace he created for you is?″ I whispered to her. She pulled herself away from my chest, gazing up at me as she nodded her head.

″He told me himself... He went on about a sweet girl name Adeline was joining him in heaven... though a little too quickly than he anticipated. He told me that he created the prettiest pink castle in all of heaven... it has tons of boxes of toys just for you, tons of closets full of clothes... He’s so excited to meet you, darling...″ I went on. Her frown was slowly turning into a smile at my words... which warmed my heart.

″Can you come with me?″ She asked me. I slowly shook my head no... her frown returning to her face.

″Why not?″

″I have to visit all of the little girls and boys just like you, sweetheart... I have to make sure they are happy in their passing. Are you happy?″ I asked her.

″Can we talk a little bit more?...″ She asked me. I couldn’t help but laugh... every single child has asked me that. I knew why... they were scared. Not only that... I was probably the only source of kindness in their short life.

I spent the next hour talking to her about random things. We spoke about things she loved... such as the color pink, horses and clothes. She also loved to cook with her mother.

She began crying once more at the mention of her mother. Her parents had done nothing wrong involving her death... she was kidnapped by these men. They were looking for her desperately for hours... but they were too late.

″Darling... one day you will see your mother and father again. You’ll be able to invite them into that pink castle that God made for you...″ I said to her.

″I want to make cookies with her when they come...″ She whispered to me.

″They would love that, sweetheart... they would.″

Depending on who the child was... sometimes it would take ages for them to finally accept going to heaven. Some would only take a few minutes- due to me explaining to them what heaven has in store... but this one.

She just simply wanted to talk to me.

I figured she never had anyone to talk to about her favorite things. She told me that her parents were always at work, that they never had time for her. But for me... I was sitting there and listening to her, regardless of what she told me about. She was happy... that was my goal of being there. She deserved to rest happy.

″Do you have a family, sir?″ She suddenly asked me. I felt a smile linger on my lips at her question.

″I do have a family, darling. Would you like to hear about them?″ I asked her. She immediately nodded her head, gazing at me with an amused smile.

″I have the love of my life, Jaxon. He’s always been there by my side no matter what... we have been through a lot. I also have my son, Nebi Di Angelo. He’s about your age... a ray of sunshine in my life.″ I told her.

″I also have my friends... but they really are my family. Your family doesn’t have to be related to you, darling... you could pick your family.″ I explained to her. Her eyes suddenly widened, gazing up at me with the biggest smile.

″You’re my friend! Can you be my family?″ She exclaimed.

The question made my heart stop for a moment. I finally gained my composure, holding her in a tighter embrace.

″Of course, sweetheart. We could be family.″ I whispered to her.

I could feel her starting to get happier and happier with every moment. It would be hard letting this one go... but it’s apart of my job.

″Um... sir?″ She suddenly asked me. I gazed down at her... She looked like she wanted to ask me a question.

″What is it, darling?″

″Who are you?″

I contemplated telling her. Though... she couldn’t tell her family or friends. She passed... and God knows of my role.

″I’m the Grim Reaper, darling. I thought you would figure that out by now...″ I teased. She let out a happy giggle, throwing herself against my chest.

″No, silly! I thought the Grim Reaper was this big scary guy... you’re really handsome and kind!″ She said with a sheepish smile.

″Thank you, Adeline.″

She finally told me she was ready to go see God.

With one final hug, I sent her off. She perished with a happy laugh... rather than crying and sadness. God has thanked me ever since I began comforting the children... I tell him that it’s no problem. Sometimes the job made me sad... but seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and the elderly... it’s worth it. Every good person in life deserves to treated with kindness. Passing into heaven or Elysium isn’t a bad thing... though they may be scared. I’m here to help them realize that.

″I love you, Adeline.″

″I love you too, Grimy!″

I collected her soul without another word. My Scythe let off some steam as I sent her soul to heaven; aiming the Scythe towards the sky. Another Angel was sent into Heaven.

Now onto the next child... though I have to finish before supper. Jaxon said he was making my favorite...

The story of a child whomst tale was thankfully told. He changed the lives of many... and continues to.

This story... was the tale of the Grim Reaper.
