Death's Saviour

Chapter Chapter Thirty-Nine: Dusk

Song of the Chapter: Never Take Me Alive by Th

I wake to the sun just beginning to shine down on the house when my heart thumps wildly in my chest and I know they are close. The end is here. I remove myself from Noah’s arms and walk quietly downstairs, maybe this is something I can face on my own in order to save my pack and my mate. I let that thought bring some hope back into my soul. Dew is fresh on the porch as I step outside and down the steps, I can’t feel the other threat anymore. As soon as my feet meet the grass they step from the edge of the forest.

“Welcome to the day you die Hellhound!” The male alpha snarls at me and he is wearing a wicked smile as a man dressed all in white stands beside him with a gun slung over his shoulder and a black tint over his eyes that makes me unable to see his eyes.

“If this truly is the end then you should know that my name is Dusk, you killed me once but I came back to terrorize you.” I smile back at him and give him my deadly smile which makes him flinch but then he stands tall while looking at the man beside him.

“You’ve lost, you see I’ve brought an army of humans against you. Humans that want to lock all of our kind up and away from their world but, I have struck a deal with them for my pack so that we will be free in exchange for the strongest pack out there.” The alpha huffs full of pride as he looks at me as if he’s won the biggest battle of his life.

“You fool, your deal means nothing to them, can’t you smell it on them?” I question in disgust and this causes his face to drain of colour as the man in the white suit turns on him.

“No, no we had a deal!” The alpha male demands but it is too late, the gun is pulled and a dart digs into his chest, his eyes widen as he falls.

“Extremely powerful tranquillizer dart, but I’m sure you already knew that didn’t you?” The man’s voice is grave as he speaks to me from behind his suit.

“I did. I figured you wouldn’t come to kill us. You have some purpose for us, but I’m not sure what it is yet. Though I have an idea.” I tell him honestly because I know there is no fighting this one because I can smell that he isn’t the only one here, he is one of many hidden in the trees.

“You are smarter than even he knew aren’t you and more dangerous? You will be my greatest treasure, my greatest pride!” He says to me and I can hear the smile in his voice as he looks at me.

I can sense the dart coming at me so I melt it before it even hits me, it dribbles out of the air and to the ground forming a puddle. I move forward and clutch this man by the throat, I rip the mask from his face to find a normal enough looking man beneath. He has a huge claw mark of a scar along the one side of his throat. I hold him in the air and melt the darts that come whizzing at me.

“I don’t think even you could guess the full amount of my powers, am I right?” I ask as I lower him back down so that he is face to face with me.

He nods in my grasp as he starts to turn red, I’m about to crush his skull when a voice calls out behind me.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you, Dusk was it, unless you want me to cut up your pack!” A feminine voice comes from behind me and I whip around to see my pack-mates being crated out on stretchers, I growl when Noah comes out on a stretcher and it sends my heart racing.

I don’t want to risk him but if what this man said was true then she won’t hurt us, they need us for something, they need me for something. I can call her bluff

“I don’t think you’ll do it!” I Snarl and in a single moment I’m a wolf and she is in my jaws, her suit is no longer white, it is red as her life drains into my jaws.

A dart sinks into my left leg as I am distracted and it causes me to drop the body and sway, I fall into human form as the world threatens to swim around me but it doesn’t drag me under. It isn’t a strong enough dosage for me, I can burn it out.

“You really are something strong aren’t you? Tell you what, you be a good girl for me and I will give your pack the best treatment, your mate.” The man with the scar asks as he comes in close to my swimming vision, I can feel his hand run down my cheek and I flinch away from it.

“I’ll kill you all for this!” I snap out and then blackness swims over me.

The man frowns at me and I know I’m sunk, I am no longer free, I’m his. He smashes my head with his gun as another dart sinks into me. Now I’m truly swimming, I’m in a world of nothing but pain, terror and no way to escape it. This isn’t how it is supposed to end. Death and the Wolf Goddess never told me about this part of the prophecy, this wasn’t supposed to happen. I was supposed to save us all, I was supposed to right the world and create peace, I guess the world just wasn’t ready for peace. Instead, the story ends this way with me swimming in a realm of pain that is never-ending. I am a puppet with a cruel man pulling the strings, I am a front in order to keep my packmates safe and well taken care of. I am lost and bit by bit I am broken until I am no longer the Dusk I was.
