Chapter Chapter Thirteen: Noah
Dusk is tired beneath me as her lungs heave while her paws drag upon entering Sally and Chris’s backyard. Dusk ran for hours as I clung to her back, she was so angry after talking to Perry but I know she doesn’t want to talk about it as her ears flick around while I pat her fur letting her know I’m still here. At one-point Dusk got running so fast that I think she forgot about me as I struggled to get a good grip on her fur, the speed was an adrenaline rush. I climb down from her shoulders as she moves through the grass towards the patio door, my legs are a little jelly feeling. When Dusk shifts she pulls the sweater I had tucked away for her under the swinging chair on. We go inside to find Chris and Sally curled up on the couch watching a movie together as they eat popcorn. Dusk moves for the kitchen and I follow her, she digs through the fridge for some food. We eat in silence, I don’t like the heavy feeling Dusk seems to be carrying with her right now.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I ask causing Dusk to look over at me with dark eyes, she gives me a small nod.
“Perry asked me to marry him and bite him. He told me he’d be by my side, make me happy after he broke me. I tried to explain things to him but he didn’t hear me. I started to leave when he hit me in the back of the head dazzing me before kissing me. I let him for a moment before I shoved him away violently. You saw the rest after that as he followed me.” Dusk explains, her voice heavy with guilt as she looks at me for my reaction.
Anger beats against my chest at the thought of them kissing but I hide it as I know that isn’t what Dusk needs right now, we aren’t together so it’s not like I really have any right to care. However, Dusk is my mate and that would make her feel guilty because as my mate another male kissing her is betraying me.
“Did you kiss him back?” I check though I already know the answer.
“No!” She replies strongly her voice re-enforcing the only answer I needed.
“That’s that settled, he forced himself on you,” I growl out, her eyes widen at how easily I let the matter drop.
Dusk gives me a look of thank you while she continues eating, she shouldn’t thank me. What she doesn’t know is next time I see Perry I’m making him pay; no man will ever force himself on Dusk again. My Dusk, the idea pleases me, but I shouldn’t call her mine. I haven’t asked her to be my girlfriend, I look over at her and consider asking her now but I know it isn’t the right time. Dusk needs to clear her mind of Perry and I need to discuss things with Chris and Sally. I look over at Dusk needing her approval, she nods at me before leaving to go upstairs.
“I’m going to be the wolf I was supposed to be, I have wolf-blood running through my veins but because the white wolves killed my father I never got to be what is my birthright. Instead, my mother made our life as humans, so my blood went dormant. Now my powers are coming through killing me so I need to shift. I have every intention of doing so and as my kind of defacto parents I’d really appreciate if you supported me in this!” I rush my words out so they are strung together jumbled but still getting the point across.
Chris and Sally look at me, then they get up and leave the room as I hear their bedroom door close, that hurts. I suck in a deep breath as the two people I really considered my parents just shut me out, they heard me out and then left me hanging without saying a word. I sit still for a little while before moving to go upstairs. Dusk is waiting looking out the window as she sniffs the air, I give her a small smile upon entering the room. I join her at the window watching as lightning touches down in the distance followed by a powerful crack of thunder, a storm is coming.
“The white wolves are coming, I can feel it.” Dusk states closing her eyes, I stare into the storm trying to feel what she does and fail.
“We should leave tomorrow for your aunts after school,” I whisper to her causing her to turn her head to me surprise evident in her eyes.
“You still plan on going to school?” Dusk questions me her voice small, I know she’s only asking because it will be a risk with my wolf awakening.
“You’ll be near if I need you, besides I need to go or else it will look weird. I also need to make sure Perry doesn’t do anything stupid in his anger.” I explain to Dusk and she nods calmly almost making me wish I told her I was going to beat Perry up.
I settle down in my makeshift bed on the floor watching her watch the world outside the window. Dusk flinches when a loud clap of thunder vibrates the house, the storm has come.
“Dusk I have a question for you before we do this!” I burst suddenly because I know this is the right time as I watch the beauty of her ability to see more than anyone else can, she can feel what the forest feels.
When Dusk looks at me she is still connected to those feelings as she trusts her instincts that the white wolves are coming. Yet another reason why I need to do this sooner rather than later, so she doesn’t have to protect me anymore.
“Ask away Noah,” Dusk responds looking down at me with those vibrant green eyes, I’ve known since the moment she opened them that I’ve been drawn to her eyes and how they signal what Dusk belongs to.
“I want to do things right with you, I don’t want you to bite me just because you feel, as my mate, that it is your responsibility to save me. I want you to bite me because I honestly am ready to be with you in every way possible. That is why I’m asking you Dusk, will you be my girlfriend?” I ask and I feel confident as these words come straight from my heart.
I watch her expression as complete surprise takes over her features as my heart skips a beat in my chest because she graces me with the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. Dusk looks down at me before falling to her knees pulling me into a hug, it is the gentlest thing I have ever felt but still, she is hugging me of her own will even though she knows what her strength could do to me.
“What about Hannah, is it too soon?” She questions, I respect her more for it.
“If it is I don’t know, all I know is I want to be with you now,” I respond to her honestly.
Dusk goes quite mulling it over for a few minutes in her head.
“Yes.” She whispers in my ear causing me to smile as I hug her to me while she buries her face into the crook of my neck.
Her breath tickles my skin, I know this is the perfect time for her to do it. It feels so right as electricity bounces under my skin with each movement she makes. Dusk kisses the skin at the junction of my neck causing me to open my mouth letting out a small groan due to how good the motion feels. She kisses my neck again before running her canines over that spot letting me know her intentions. I tilt my head over more granting her better access to that spot giving her the permission she needs to bite me. I’m not going to lie the pain is intense as her teeth sink into my skin, at the same time I shudder with the pleasure of it as more sparks cause me to gasp. When her teeth leave my neck, she kisses her bite as blood trickles down my neck a little, I don’t move when she laps it up with her tongue. Dusk pulls back from me; her eyes are glowing, I know she is feeling the same deep desire and lust that is coursing through my body. Before I fully understand what I’m doing I flip her over as I press my body to form with hers as she lays beneath me. I hover over her causing her to moan a little as we fit together in all the right places. I hesitate though as I hover over her letting her hooded eyes meet my own, Dusk can see the question hanging between us. Dusk gives me a small but surprisingly nervous smile as I watch her bite her lower lip, the action causes my resolve to break. I’m gentle as I move my lips over hers, the motion sets my blood on fire as each kiss is electrifying. Dusk kisses me back, her lips warm beneath mine as our kisses deepen and pick up speed as she sucks my lower lip causing me to truly feel like I’m flying. I’m on top of the world. I move my body over hers creating friction that has her moaning into my mouth. Dusk clings to my arms, the bite of her fingernails into my skin makes me gasp as she moans again wriggling against me in a way that has me moaning. This couldn’t get any better, this moment. Our tongues tangled, as we are about to find our climaxes pain suddenly laces my lip where blood begins to flow. I pull away to wipe at my lip, in that second Dusk jumps out from under me sprinting across the room to put distance between us as she crouches over clutching herself. Her eyes are closed as she takes in deep ragged breathes. I’m about to go to her when her eyes open, I watch them flicker between human and wolf. I notice her muscles twitching as blood drips from her fists where she digs her claws into her own palms.
“Dusk?” I ask in a calm voice, she looks up at me with such longing that I know is reflected in my own eyes.
I blink and cry out in pain as she slams me into the wall pressing her lips against mine. I should be happy as I’m extremely turned on by her roughness but at the same time, she is pushing me too hard. I suck in a deep painful breath causing her to back away again before turning from me. Dusk puts her blood palms against the wall pressing her forehead to it as my back aches fiercely where it smacked into the wall. I notice Dusk’s whole body trembles shaking before me, I’m about to move to her when she turns her eyes to mine and they are glowing wolf eyes.
“I don’t have control, Noah!” Dusk rasps, her voice is seductive animals as she looks at me before closing her eyes, then she turns her head away from me again.
I such in a breath because I have never, not once since I have met Dusk, seen her lose control like this. Never have I seen her struggling so badly to keep herself from hurting me, fear shoots through my gut as I take a tentative step away from her hoping that putting more distance between us will help.
“I’m so sorry Dusk, I didn’t mean to make you lose control,” I tell her, she doesn’t look at me or even move as she pushes her body against the wall as desperation rolls off her in a wave as she tries to regain control.
Suddenly a howl comes from outside causing me to jump away as Dusk moves to the window letting out an almost feral growl.
“What is it?” I ask her in a gentle tone because she still shakes horribly.
“They are called assassins, the only white furs allowed to change on a non-full moon. They hunt down and kill the white fur’s enemies, they must be here for me!” Dusk growls her voice a little bit more human but not by much as she looks outside.
Another howl rings out into the night as a knock comes at the front door that has my adrenaline pumping while my bite mark aches something fierce. Dusk moves down the stairs at a frenzied pace as I rush to follow her only to see she as she reaches Sally but not in time. A man springs through the front door, I slam it behind him as I notice four more wolves prowling outside the door just waiting to come in. I’m sure they could knock the door down if they wanted to, but they won’t. The Wolves must know there is an alarm system, to knock the door down would bring the police here. Wolves or not no one likes getting the police involved. I spin around just in time to feel a hand lock around my throat as it lifts me off the ground, a man’s eyes zero in on the fresh bite mark on my neck. His eyes look at me with such deep hate that I’m confused.
“You must be the Hellhound.” The man snarls as he pulls me closer to his face, I lash out at him but it is useless.
I look at Sally and Chris desperately, but they just huddle on the ground together behind the door as they look up at us with horror in their eyes.
“No, that would be me!” Dusk calls from behind us, the man whips me around throwing me into the couch as he faces Dusk.
I crash to the floor with a moan as I watch the two of them square off, Dusk’s eyes glow pure wolf as she bares her canines and claws at the man. He returns the gesture with his own growl.
“You, you are but a girl!” The man laughs. The next thing I know I hear a crash as Dusk picks him up launching him out the patio door shattering the glass.
The rain has begun to fall outside. I give Dusk a nod that I’m okay when her eyes find me. Dusk then moves with rhythmic steps towards the smashed patio door. Outside the man is shaking himself off as his hands are coated in mud, he looks up at Dusk with new awe. I watch captivated as he tries to scramble away from her but before he knows it she is on top of him, she growls at him before slashing claws deep through his throat. I crawl forwards peering around the couch to watch her, fascination and a deep sense of admiration course through me as I watch the blood spurting from the man’s neck, I watch his eyes as the life leaves them, Dusk lets his body fall to the ground like dead weight. It is dead weight as he looks up lifelessly a pool of blood spreading through the dirt around him as my hands twitch for my paintbrushes. Dusk stands in the rain letting it soak her as she looks out into the night before stripping off my sweater tossing it back towards the door as she steps farther out into the backyard, the outside light flickers on illuminating her in the storm. Dusk shifts just as the other four wolves prowl out of the forest moving to surround her. My heart clenches in my chest but surprisingly worry is not something that comes to me, in my soul I know Dusk can take these wolves in the blink of an eye. I’m right as they close in on her, one steps close and she snaps its neck with a simple well-placed jerk of her jaw that's closed around its windpipe. Another wolf makes a move and she easily jumps over it out of the circle of wolves allowing them to crash together. As bodies tumble I watch as Dusk makes her move jumping onto the back of one of the wolves ripping with her claws sending blood and chunks of flesh flying everywhere, she rips until the wolf collapses in agony beneath her. I watch as another wolf rips her from the fallen wolf’s back by the scruff dragging her a little, suddenly that wolf yelps as steam begins to rise from Dusk. The wolf falls away writhing in pain as it vomits blood, fire is in Dusk’s eyes and I know she must have a friend the wolf from the inside out as it dies on the ground in a pool of its own blood that still pours freely from its own mouth. Dusk finishes the wolf that whines on the ground with it’s back ripped open. Finally, she turns to the last wolf who looks at her with round eyes, it makes a move to run but Dusk pins it before it has a chance. They roll around in the mud before both shifting back to human with Dusk coming upholding a woman’s neck between her hands.
“Who sent you?” Dusk growls out the question as the woman whimpers again.
“We got information from a human boy that these people were harbouring the Hellhound, nothing more. We were sent to deal with it!” The woman whines as a hammer slams into my chest considering we both know who that human could be.
I watch as Dusk begins to squeeze the woman’s throat tighter intending to kill her when suddenly the woman sputters out more.
“They should leave, when we don’t return with your head the alphas will send more wolves to hunt down the humans, they want them dead too.” The woman sputters the words out, Dusk gives a small appreciative nod.
“For this information I will give you a quick death, know if circumstances were different I might be capable of mercy, however, my brother must not know I’m alive,” Dusk tells the woman causing the woman’s eyes to bulge out.
“You are Dusk then.” The woman sighs, she sounds peaceful and understanding as she accepts the inevitable, her death.
Dusk doesn’t lie, she snaps the woman’s neck in one quick motion as the life quickly leaves the woman’s body. For a moment Dusk remains crouched above the body looking down at the woman before she blinks coming back towards us. She avoids the glass as she moves back through the patio door.
“Pack your bags with everything you can, essentials, and anything of importance. Sally, Chris, you need to leave and go somewhere far away. Never come back! The Wolves want you dead, Noah you and I shall go to my aunts where we will be safe!” Dusk commands us, we all scramble to do as she says.
After gathering my minimal belongings I watch Chris and Sally start packing up the house. Dusk get’s on the phone with the police, she tells them that Wolves came and attacked the house but they are dead, she gives an address before hanging up. Chris and Sally strip the house quickly before getting into their car and driving away without looking back. I follow Dusk back outside as she shifts taking us into the forest. Sirens blare closer and closer until lights move through the house, we watch quietly as the police discover the bodies, with them, are the alphas of the white-furs. The alphas view the scene with no sadness, only anger. Dusk and I leave as I cling to her while she runs through the forest carrying me away from the life I once knew. Things are happening so quickly now, it’s as if we set something big into motion, something that is having a ripple effect on everything as rain pours down around us and thunderclaps overhead through my bones as we go. I’m soaked through to the skin and shivering as Dusk moves beneath me. We have a long journey ahead of us.
