CURSE OF THE MOON REBORN

Chapter 35 BIRTH PLAN

“Don’t start.”

“I’m just telling you, if Susana starts her yapping Scar is going to kill her then we are going to have a bigger problem on our hands.”

“Kayla.”

“I’m just saying.” Kayla walked away and headed to greet their visitors.

“Nikki.” Kayla greeted her in a cold tone.

“Kayla,” Nikki responded in an even chillier tone, then walked away heading for the back door.

“Hallo Susana.” Kayla turned her attention to the theoretically older woman. She was in awe of her youth and beauty. She didn’t look a day older than Nikki or herself but in the true sense, she was much older than her late Nana. This was what Kayla looked forward to, spending an eternity at twenty-three years of age.

“Kayla how lovely to see you, it’s been too long.”

“Three years to be exact.” Curiously she noticed how Susana kept on looking around. “He is with his mother.”

“How did you know-,”

Susana cut short her sentence when Kayla used her index finger to tap her temple.

“You read minds. I always thought the vampires had an unfair advantage. Any way you read minds and we give birth.”

Kayla’s fist clenched at her side. She already knew how incapable she was to have a child of her own and for Susana to remind her of it was just rude.

“Momma.” Jade rushed to Kayla’s side and unclenched her fist slipping her fingers into her mother’s.

“Momma?” Susana asked surprised.

“Jade this is Susana. She is a beast and is here to help Scar.” Kayla’s tone was so controlled she ended up sounding like a robot.

“Pleased to meet you. You are very excited considering the dire situation that my aunt is in.”

“What makes you think- let me guess you read minds.”

“No, I sense emotions, and yours aren’t appropriate at the moment.”

“Before I could see you in her, but now just after she spoke there is no doubt that she is yours.”

“Thanks I’m very proud.” Kayla beamed.

“Hello, ladies, what’s going on here?” Solara walked into the room just as the three women exchanged murderous looks at each other. “Hallo Susana glad you could make it. You are welcome.”

“I don’t feel welcome.”

“I can tell.” Jade put in.

“Kayla, Jade could you please come with me. Excuse us.” Solara rushed them into the kitchen. “Kayla you need to chill.”

“I didn’t say anything,” Kayla said defensively.

“It’s that... that woman.” Jade groaned.

“I see your lips moving but I hear you talking.” Solara pointed at Kayla.

“What do you mean by that?”

“You need to relax because Jade is picking up all the anger you are radiating. Remember our daughter is a sponge and everything that bounces off you soak up in her.”

Kayla took in a deep breath and as she began to relax Jade’s temper cooled down.

“There we go, and how about we don’t go hostile on the people who are trying to help us.” Solara planted a kiss on both his ladies then escorted them back into the living room.

She stretched her hands out so that she could land on them instead of her belly. But just as she was about to crash into the ground a pair of hands reached out and grabbed her. She was hoisted into his arms and cradled to his chest.

“I knew there was a reason you were born.” She chuckled.

“I bet this wasn’t it.” SJ teased.

“Maybe not but since I carried you it’s only fair you carry me.”

SJ went to put her on the bed but she protested pointing towards the bathroom.

“I need some water.”

“I can get it for you.” He laid her on the bed and grabbed the glass on her bedside table. “You shouldn’t be moving around.” He said when he came back with the glass of water.

“Thanks.” Scarlet gulped it down relieved as the dryness was replaced by a smooth coolness. “By the way, I’m still the parent.”

“Clearly.” SJ laughed then poked her belly.

“So what’s going on down there?”

“How about I let Dad explain that.” SJ was uncomfortable and Scarlet could see it.

“Could you at least tell me what time it is or do you need your father’s permission to do that too?”

“It’s three in the afternoon. You were asleep the whole day.”

“Get me something to eat, actually to drink. I feel dried out.”

“You are a bit skinny.” He picked up her sticky arm.

“That’s what it looks like because of all this.” She used her hand to gesture her belly, “But I’m still the same size.”

“I don’t think so. Dad’s coming.” SJ could hear his father’s heavy footsteps on the stairs. Stephan’s feet had become even more distinct ever since the problematic pregnancy. His feet got heavier and he seemed like he dragged them along. The weight of the world was on his shoulders making him heavier than he ever was.

“How are my two best people doing?” Stephan feigned a smile as he walked into the room.

“I think you mean three. There is more of the baby than there is mom.”

Stephan looked at his wife and how tiny she looked compared to the mountain she carried around with her. And as much as what SJ said was meant to be a joke it was a horrific reality to him. She was wasting away once again and it was his entire fault.

“I need to talk to you about something sweetheart.”

Scarlet sniffed into the air, “Before we do would you be so kind to tell me who is downstairs.”

“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about,” Stephan said nervously.

“This is my cue to duck, I mean leave.” SJ bolted out of the door.
