Chasing My Ex-wife Back by Symplyayisha Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Cole had no idea how long he slept for. But the voices he heard in the room caused him to slowly open his eyes. It took a while for his vision to get clear and when it did, he came face to face with the Doctor from earlier.
“How are you feeling?”
“The i
procedure is over? How’s my son?” Connor could see the worry in Cole’s eyes.
“He’s good. He’s gonna experience some discomfort but he will be fine.” Doctor Connor gestured to the bed just a few steps away from Cole.
Cole’s heart went to his little boy who was lying on the bed with his eyes shut. Their beds were separated by a monitor which was mainly for Enzo. And he still had drips passed to him.
“The nurse will come to transfer you to another ward shortly.”
Cole shook his head.
“Can’t I stay with him?”
“Sure, I just thought you might want your privacy.”
“No, I’m good here.”
“You would be discharged by the end of the day.”
“What about my Son?”
“He is going to be with us for a few more days.”
Cold nodded.
“My shift is almost over but my colleague will be here soon to check up on you both. Dr Connor said.
Cole nodded.
Connor signaled the nurse in the room, after which they took their leave.
Once they were out of sight, Cole pushed his duvet aside and slowly got up from his bed, ignoring the little pains. and soreness. He took slow steps to Enzo’s bedside and sat on the chair by the little boy. He reached for his free hand and caressed it.
Enzo slowly opened his eyes. He smiled when he saw Cole.
“Daddy!” His voice came out really hoarse. “You’re here”
Cole smiled. He rose to his feet, leaned close, and kissed his forehead, before taking his seat again.
“How do you feel, baby?”
“Tired. Enzo voiced out. This time around he sounded drowsy and Cole could see that he was fighting to keep his
eyes open.

“It’s okay buddy. You can go to sleep. I would be right here, watching over you. Cole continued caressing the little boy’s hand.
“Promise?” Enzo said, almost shutting his eyes.
Cole nodded. “Yes, my love.”
He watched Enzo sleep for a while before he went back to his bed.
Cole decided to take a nap too, when his eyes met with the nightstand by him and he saw his phone flashing lights. The device was ringing. But there was no sound because it was in silence.
Cole stretched out his hands and reached for his phone. He came face to face with his screen and saw that it was Jess. He answered, bringing the phone to his car, mindful of his tone, not to disturb Enzo.
“Where the hell are you, Cole? God! I’ve been trying to reach you all night. Your Dad has been calling me nonstop. He said you failed to show up for a multi–billion dollar deal that could literally save the life of your company.”
Cole sighed, not knowing where to start talking from.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I had an emergency.” He said, maintaining his low tone.
“Emergency? Please don’t tell me those witches did something terrible.”
“No. It’s Enzo.”
“Oh my God, is he okay?” He asked, the worry not going unnoticed in Jessica’s voice.
“Yeah, he just had a bone marrow transplant. I was the donor. He’s fine. He just needs to recover soon. Cole said. taking a glance at his son who was sleeping soundly.
I’m so sorry about that, Cole. But I am glad to hear that he is okay. We were so worried about you. You weren’t picking up your calls either. I called your housekeeper and she confirmed you weren’t home. Hope you are feeling okay too?”
“Do you need me to come over?” Jessica asked.
“I’m good. I just feel a bit sore but I am good. Sorry, I made you worry. Everything happened so fast. I was on my way to the airport when Hailey called. Unfortunately, she wasn’t a match so I was needed.”
“It’s fine. I’m glad to know that you are safe. Since your Dad has no clue about these twins, I will try to come up with a good excuse for you.”
“Please be strong. And if you need anything, please let me know.”
“How is Hailey? She must be so terrified. I’m always a mess when my daughter falls sick. I can’t imagine witnessing her undergoing surgeries.”
“She was really in a terrible state last night. I haven’t seen her today. But I am sure she will be here soon. The doctor insisted She and Ollie went home last night.”
Chapter 45
“Please take good care of her. She might appear strong to you but I promise you that she needs all the love and support she can get.”
“I’m really sorry this is happening, Cole.”
Thank you for your concern. My kids are more important than any other thing in the world. Things could have been worse but I am grateful that’s not the case. Enzo is out of danger. We are just waiting for him to recover.”
“That’s good to hear. I will take care of everything over here. I will talk to your Dad. I know you and Hailey would probably want some privacy but if you need me to come over, don’t hesitate to let me know.”
Hailey, Debbie, and Oliver got to the hospital at almost 9 in the morning. And they were fortunate to meet Dr Connor at the reception.
Debbie carried the food basket while Hailey held Oliver.
“Good morning, Doc.”
Connor smiled at them and that instantly calmed Hailey.
“How are they?” She asked regardless, referring to Enzo and Cole.
“Oh,
the transplant was a success. Congratulations.”
“C…can we see them.?”
“Sure! But I think the other Doctor is still attending to Enzo,
“He’s okay right?” Hailey asked with so much concern over her face.
“Yes, just a general check–up. You know, he’s young, though a very strong boy so we need to keep a close eye on him.”
“His father has been really helpful. He hasn’t left Enzo’s side since the donation.”
“They are in the same room?” Hailey asked.
Dr Connor nodded. “I hope you don’t mind. Cole just wouldn’t let the little boy out of his sight.
Hailey swallowed painfully. “No, it’s fine. Thank you so much. Any precautions?”
“Well, things went better than expected considering your son’s age. No infections but you all would have to wear an overall and mask to see him. At least for today. He is really brave, I must commend him. I think he got that from you and his Daddy.”
Debbie smiled proudly.
“Cole should be able to move around slowly. But he shouldn’t do anything strenuous or go back to work for at least a week. He is free to go home today but we would still have to keep Enzo here for more monitoring.”
Hailey nodded, glad that her son was out of danger.

“They are on the 5th floor. The VIP room. The nurses there will assist you with some overalls before you go in.
Hailey, Debbie, and Ollie made their way to the fifth floor, then they located the VIP ward.
Before they could go in, the door to the ward opened and a Doctor came out, along with a nurse.
“Hi Doc, We are here to see my Daddy and my brother,” Ollie said before the adults could say anything.
“Hiiii.” The Doctor smiled at Oliver, taking in his resemblance with the male figures in the ward. ‘Good to see you, buddy.”
“Hi Doc, How are they doing?” Hailey asked.
“Good. Enzo is having some rest and I would like for him not to be disturbed. Can you all wait for at least an hour before you see him?”
Hailey swallowed painfully. “What about Cole? Can we see him now?”
“Sure! But you all have to lower your voices so as not to disturb Enzo.”
“We won’t. I promise.”
“Please go along with Nurse Tina. She will help you with some overall.”
“Thanks, Doc.”
The Doctor–smiled, nodded, and took his leave.
Nurse Tina ushered the trio to a room at the end of the hallway. It was a sanitation room. Debbie, Hailey, and Ollie washed their hands after which they were given sanitizers and finally, each of them wore an overall, a long blue free dress, and matching caps. Debbie and Hailey had nose masks on.
Ollie started giggling at his reflection in the mirror.
“What is it, buddy?” Hailey asked.
“We look funny,”
Debbie smiled. “No, I don’t think so.”
“We have to put this on because your brother just got out of surgery and we don’t want to risk him having any
infection.
“I know, Mommy. Enzo is very stron
I’m proud of him. I’m proud of Daddy too. He said proudly.
“Doctor Philip really complimented Enzo. He’s responding to treatment so fast which is impressive for his age. You have a beautiful family ma’am. Nurse Tina smiled.
“She really does.” Debbie smiled.
