Chapter 1181
"Of course," Winona replied smoothly. "Think about it, they like Yvonne. Knowing she's struggling, they'll definitely agree. Besides, we won't be taking advantage of them for free, right?"
Her words ignited a spark of hope in Joe. After finding an excuse to send Winona away, he made his way to Yvonne's hospital room.
The moment Yvonne saw him, she stiffened in alarm. "What are you doing here? I don't want to see you. Leave now, or I'll jump out the window."
Joe paused, not daring to move further. He stood at the doorway, his gaze steady. "I've found a potential kidney donor for you. Also, I recovered your missing paintings. Just say the word, and I'll arrange for them to be hung in the exhibit."
"There's no need. I won't be using them, and I don't need you to worry about my affairs," Yvonne replied coldly, her tone even more distant than before.
Joe's last shred of hope crumbled into disappointment. After a long silence, he quietly took out a piece of paper and wrote down the contact information of the family willing to donate a kidney. He then placed it on the armrest of the sofa by the door before leaving. Yvonne didn't pay much attention to his actions. As long as Joe stopped bothering her, she didn't care about anything else he did.
Soon after, Nigel arrived at her room. Seeing the door wide open, he panicked and rushed inside. When he saw Yvonne casually playing on her phone, he sighed in relief.
His sharp eyes caught sight of the paper on the armrest. Picking it up, he asked, "Who left this? Someone's selling a kidney to pay for their kid's college?"
Yvonne ignored him, pulling the blanket over her head to avoid him.
Without a clear answer, Nigel stepped outside to ask the nurse. Upon learning that Joe had just left, Nigel immediately connected the dots.
If the note was real, Yvonne might have a chance. Determined to confirm its authenticity, he rushed to Joe's hospital room.
At the door, he came face-to-face with Winona. Neither of them liked the other, and their disdain was palpable. As their eyes met, they both let out a soft, dismissive snort.
"What are you doing here? This isn't Yvonne's room," Winona snapped, her voice loud enough for Joe to hear inside.
Nigel scoffed, arrogantly stepping forward to open the door, only to be blocked by Winona. His frustration boiled over as they stared each other down.
Winona wasn't intimidated. Her gaze fell on the paper in his hand, and she quickly pieced things together.
With a calm cough, she smirked. "You're here to see my husband?"
Nigel did not respond.
"Well, in that case, my apologies for the misunderstanding. Please, go ahead," she said, stepping aside with a forced smile.
Nigel shot her a cold look before entering the room.
Watching him go, Winona pulled out her phone and made a call. "Keep ǎ close eye on things. Make sure nothing goes wrong," she instructed before leaving the hospital.
Inside the room, Nigel glared at Joe. "Is this paper legit?"
Joe nodded calmly. "You need to take her there. That family owes Yvonne a favor. If she asks, they'll definitely agree to the transplant."
"You went to see her earlier to tell her this?" Nigel asked, still suspicious of how convenient everything seemed.
Joe smirked coldly. "What, Nigel, don't you want Yvonne to survive?"
"Of course, I do."
"Then why keep doubting it when there's hope right in front of you?"
Nigel clenched his jaw, unable to refute. Joe, feeling triumphant, let out a satisfied smile. He didn't press the issue further, but the tension between them crackled in the air.
After a moment, Nigel stormed out of the room and immediately called the number on the paper. When he confirmed that the family was indeed willing to sell a kidney, Ke hurried back to Yvonne's hospital room.
