Chapter 1156
Joe reached out to Yvonne, his demeanor disturbingly unwell.
She had no desire to continue this twisted relationship and screamed, "I don't need you! Joe, I've already contacted my best friend, Nina! You know exactly who she is and her connections. If you dare hurt me, she and her husband won't let you get away with it!" Joe chuckled dismissively. "But do you really think anyone would believe us? Would you even dare tell anyone, Yvonne? Or maybe you want me to expose our relationship in public?"
Yvonne felt completely numb. Joe's words stirred up memories from the past five years, with days and nights filled with his actions and the sound of his voice echoing in her mind. "Ahhh!" She couldn't take it anymore.
Like someone losing her mind, Yvonne grabbed a crystal glass from the coffee table and smashed it to pieces. She picked up one of the shards and pressed it against her neck. "Joe, don't push me. If you keep pushing, I'll die right here in front of you!"
She wasn't bluffing.
In her overwhelming emotion, the shard already pierced her artery as soon as she finished speaking.
Joe rushed forward, pressing hard against her wound. "Yvonne, are you crazy? What have I ever done to wrong you? How am I any worse than those other men?
"Haven't I treated you well enough?"
Even though Yvonne couldn't stand him, Joe had always been there for her, supporting everything she did. Her accomplishments were, in part, due to his help, though he never told her. Now, watching Yvonne try to escape him forever in such a drastic way, Joe couldn't accept it.
Yvonne gave a bitter laugh. "Yes,
you've treated me well, and you think I don't know that. But I do. The problem is, our relationship isn't right, and I'm not asking for much. I just wish for a normal life..."
She tried with all her strength to push him away in her emotional state, but Joe stood firm, like a mountain, unmoved by her efforts.
Joe, ignoring her resistance, wrapped his arm around her waist and lifted her up. "Yvonne, we'll talk about your wishes once you're better!" With that, Joe carried her out of the room.
Yvonne could smell the strong scent of blood in the air, but she was growing weaker and more faint with each passing moment.
At the hotel entrance, Joe came face
to face with Nina and Nash, who had
just arrived. Nina didn't fully understand the situation, but seeing Yvonne covered in blood, she quickly
followed behind Joe.
The entire time, Nash tried to comfort Nina. "It's going to be alright. Medicine is so advanced now, I'm sure she'll pull through..."
"Nash, I'm terrified! Aside from you, all I have left is my father, my adoptive parents, Orion, and Yvonne. She's my best friend. If something happens to her, I..." Nina broke down into tears.
She couldn't bear the thought of Yvonne being seriously hurt. The sight of the blood and the deep made her imagine how excruciating the pain must have been for Yvonne.
If something really happened to her, Nina would never be able to forget the horror of today.
Nash pulled Nina into his arms, gently patting her shoulder. "I'll call Caleb. I'll have him personally treat Yvonne."
