Chapter 63
Alyssa had already walked out of the villa gates, still flushing from the incident. However, just as she was heading over to the bus
station, she heard the car engine whistle right behind her.
Pursing her lips, she finally turned around to see that the black Bentley had stopped right beside her. Its tinted windows gleamed
against the bright sunlight, and she squinted her eyes.
Soon, the window lowered, revealing Justin’s handsome but annoying face. She could feel her annoyance rising in an instant,
and her hands fidgeted from the suddenness. What the hell was he doing here?
Emmett narrowed his eyes and said in a low voice. “Get in the car. I’ll take you to work.”
“There’s no need,” Alyssa rejected him directly, not wanting to be stared at again.
If “Justin” dropped her off, she’d be susceptible to office gossip once again. After lying low during the weekend, she wasn’t
planning to push herself back into the spotlight! She shook her head.
However, “Justin” didn’t look that bothered. He grinned as his ink-like eyes turned dark. There was a mocking tinge to his words
as he stared up at her. “What are you so afraid of?”
What was she so afraid of?
Alyssa froze at his line of questioning. Only then did she realize that she had been treating him coldly all this time, not because
she was annoyed with him, but because she was afraid of him.
Although she had always acted as if she hated him, she had to admit that he was quite an outstanding man.
For a long time, she had regarded him as an arrogant man, who was far too obsessed with his fortune and status in society. But
now, she realized that he was much more than that. “Justin” was a natural born leader, with enough confidence to conquer the
mountains.
He may be a bit of an ass, but during the times he was good to her, she could feel the genuineness in his actions. He was the
type of man who stuck with his word, and she couldn’t help but admire him for that.
“Justin” could easily move her heart if he had wanted to.
And that was exactly the reason why she should stay far away from him.
As she had repeatedly told herself back then, she was now ‘Young Madame Lawrence’. She was Emmett’s wife, and that title will
follow her for the rest of her life. There was no way she’d back out of her duties now. So she had to behave herself.
That’s why she was so afraid of becoming close to him. She was afraid that she would love him.
Seeing that Alyssa didn’t speak for a long time, Emmett continued, “Or are you starting to have inappropriate thoughts towards
me?”
“Of course not!” Alyssa immediately refuted him.
By the time she came back to her senses, she had already pulled open the car door and sat in the passenger seat. A red flush
colored her cheeks as she turned her attention to the window beside her. ‘This man is going to be the death of me,’ she thought.
“Justin” didn’t bother to say anything more. Although his expression displayed no emotion, there was a trace of happiness out of
success hidden in his dark gaze.
“How much is this car of yours?” She mustered up the courage to say something, suddenly feeling rather guilty with the entire
predicament.
“It’s not that expensive.”
Not that expensive? She blinked. Even she didn’t need to be a car enthusiast to know how rare this car was. Back when she was
still a student, she’d see rich kids driving up to the school gate to impress their classmates. Alyssa had seen plenty of sports cars
and Bentleys, but not like this.
This must’ve been really expensive.
“The production of this car stopped a few years ago.” Emmett glanced at her and said.
“I just...”
“If you want, flatter me and I can consider giving it to you.”
When he saw Alyssa’s face changed, he realized the implication of his words.
If he was Emmett, it would be understandable for him to give the car to her. But it would be inappropriate for ‘Justin’ to say it to
her. He turned the other way, unsure of what to say next.
They were silent the entire ride.
As soon as they reached the company, Alyssa turned towards him. “Thank you.”
Although her voice was polite, there was a deep sense of alienation. ‘He’s Emmett’s cousin,’ she told herself the entire ride as if
the thought was enough to erase her softness towards him.
Just as she had closed the door and turned around, she bumped into Skylar.
Glancing at the black Bentley behind her, Skylar’s face darkened in disdain and ridicule. “You really got along with Emmett’s
cousin, don’t you? He’s even picking you up every day. Careful, if anyone else were to see, you’d look like a couple.”
“We’re family, so it’s normal for us to get along well...but then again, that might not be something that you’re used to.” Alyssa
took a few steps forward to approach Skylar. She lowered her voice to a whisper that only they could hear, “After all, I personally
don’t dabble in places like Sky Light Club. Instead of worrying about me, I’d say the same goes for you.”
At her words, Skylar’s expression stiffened, but she quickly regained her composure. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“All I’m saying is that you shouldn’t be going to places like Sky Light Club.” Alyssa stepped back, smiling brightly at her. But even
her gentle face couldn’t hide her threatening voice. “After all, Dad wouldn’t like that.”
Although Jason didn’t love her, he still found some use with her. She was Emmett’s wife, so she was still of great use. If her
father knew what Skylar had done, he’d surely turn against her.
They both understood that well enough.
However, Skylar wasn’t threatened that easily. “And who’ll believe you?”
“Alyssa, do you get off work at the same time? I’ll come pick you up.”
Suddenly, Justin’s voice reverberated from the roadside. Alyssa turned back and stared at him blankly. Although her face was
impassive, her eyes held panic and accusations to the man in the driver’s seat.
However, Emmett acted as if he didn’t understand her. Instead, he stayed where he was and simply gazed in her direction, not
bothering to leave until he heard her answer.
Was he truly that stubborn?
“Yes.” She nodded.
“Hm.” He shot Skylar a glare before driving off.
Skylar shivered in fear. However, at the sight of the Bentley, even she couldn’t hide the greed in her face.
If she had known that Emmett had such an outstanding cousin, she would’ve easily married into the Lawrence family. Perhaps
“Justin” would be the one sending her to work every day.
Remembering the black card Alyssa had taken out that day in Golden Fountain Club, Skylar’s hands clenched into fists. If she
was the one who had been given that card, her life would’ve already been set!
She should be the one marrying into the Lawrence family!
Alyssa turned her head and saw Skylar greedily eyeing “Justin’s” car.
She curled her lips in mockery. “Does big sister regret giving her fiancé to me now?” She plastered a sweet smile on her face.
“But it’s useless for you to regret. Even if Emmett is willing to divorce me, he wouldn’t marry you even if you’re the last woman in
the world.”
Although Skylar’s scandals had already died down, her reputation was already ruined. Even if Emmett was a cripple, it would be
weird for the Lawrence family to accept someone like her.
Skylar’s expression turned ugly after her thought was disclosed by Alyssa.
But her expression quickly returned to normal. She brushed her hair and said proudly. “Please, I don’t want to marry a cripple like
Emmett.”
What she wanted was “Justin”.
If they were together, Skylar’s life would be filled with endless possibilities.
Alyssa was nothing more than a country bumpkin. So what if she was beautiful? In terms of satisfying and dealing with men, she
couldn’t hold a candle towards her!
Although Alyssa couldn’t guess Skylar’s thoughts, she could tell that the woman was thinking about hooking up with “Justin”.
‘It’s like flirting with a lunatic. There’s no use talking to her.’ Alyssa thought.
However, she wasn’t going to stand by and let this bitch talk about her husband that way. Skylar could say all she wants to her,
but not to him!
“So what if Emmett’s a cripple? You’re not any better even if you have two working legs! I suggest you think twice before
speaking against my husband.” Not knowing how else to vent her anger, Alyssa fiercely stepped on Skylar’s foot before walking
into the company.
“You slut!” Skylar screamed, chasing after her.
At that time, Emmett, who should have left long ago, expressionlessly stepped out behind a large pillar from the side, staring at
their retreating figures.
