Chapter 26
Isabella's voice was icy. "Being reasonable and not letting things slide? It's better than causing a scene for no reason."
Victoria choked back a sob. "Sis, we came here today to invite you to my celebration party. I really hope you can come, but if you don't want to, I won't force you. I just really want to share my joy with you." With that, Victoria handed her an invitation and staggered away.
Nathan stood still, looking at Victoria, then at Isabella, finally letting out a sigh as he went after Victoria.
His choice had always been Victoria.
Isabella casually tossed the invitation into the fire.
The sharp smell of burning plastic quickly filled every corner of the room.
Victoria and Nathan, still near the door, turned back in shock. Seeing the invitation engulfed by flames, both of them wore expressions of disbelief.
After all, the old Isabella would have eagerly attended every event, just to steal a few more glances at Nathan.
Nathan's eyes darkened, and with suppressed anger, he spoke, his voice heavy with restraint, "Isabella, if you don't attend your Sis's celebration, do you think she won't be upset?"
Isabella rolled her eyes. "Nathan, if you want to be her lapdog, that's your business. Don't drag me into it."
Nathan's face paled slightly. He awkwardly tried to explain, "Your Sis is unwell. I'm just taking care of her. Why do you have to speak so harshly?"
Isabella sneered. "I haven't seen you care this much for me, your *real* wife..."
Nathan looked uncomfortable.
Victoria, with tears in her eyes, said, "Bella, Nathan and I are in love. His marriage to you was forced. If you have any conscience, you should return him to me."
Nathan angrily reprimanded her. "Victoria, what are you talking about?"
At that moment, Isabella suddenly felt a wave of disgust wash over her and almost vomited.
Ava, worried, asked, "Sis, what's wrong?"
Victoria and Nathan both looked at Isabella in confusion.
Victoria glanced nervously at Nathan, almost as if worried he might realize something was amiss. It was as if she felt the weight of his gaze, sensing that he might figure out the true nature of her feelings. Nathan's suspicious gaze was fixed on Isabella.
Isabella shot a casual glance at Ava and then, with a serene expression, said, "It's nothing. Just seeing some trash makes me feel sick."
Nathan was speechless.
Victoria was speechless.
Nathan's expression darkened. "Isabella, it looks like you've been running wild for too long. You've lost all sense of propriety. In a few days, come back home with me. You need to calm down." Isabella shot him a look of disdain and rolled her eyes.
"You want me to pack up and leave for overseas, I have to do it. But now you want me to go back? Why should I?"
"Why should I?" she repeated. "Nathan, I'm not your puppet. You have no right to control me."
Nathan froze.
Isabella's defiance startled him once again.
He firmly said, "Isabella, you don't have a choice."
Isabella saw a certain cold, businesslike determination in his eyes that sent a wave of panic through her heart.
Later that evening, Isabella received a text from Theodore.
"Sis, I heard from Ava that you've successfully become Jasmine's disciple. I'm so happy for you. To celebrate your success, I've prepared a surprise for you at the Milan club. Be sure to go pick it up yourself."
A smile involuntarily tugged at the corners of Isabella's lips.
"Milan Club?"
Victoria's celebration party was also held at the largest Milan Club in the city. Some of the most prominent local entrepreneurs, out of respect for Nathan's status, attended to show support for Victoria. Nathan's close friends also made the effort to come from afar, giving Victoria ample face.
Nathan had booked a luxurious VIP room at the hotel and hired many famous singers and dancers to perform lively songs and dances in the hall.
Victoria looked around at the festive and bustling scene, her eyes welling up with emotion.
She clung to Nathan's arm. "Nathan, thank you for throwing this celebration for me. I'm so happy."
Nathan gazed at Victoria with tenderness. Even though Victoria had her makeup on, her exhaustion was still evident. He recalled the doctor's words: although her kidney transplant had been successful, her body had been frail for a long time, and there were concerns her single kidney might not last much longer.
In any case, he would do everything he could to keep her happy.
Nathan smiled gently. "Victoria, as long as you're happy, it's worth it for me to do all of this."
Victoria leaned her head on his shoulder. "Nathan, meeting you is the greatest blessing of my life."
"Too bad it's my greatest misfortune."
As soon as Isabella entered the hall of the Milan Club, she overheard Victoria and Nathan's nauseating conversation. She couldn't hold back and had to comment.
Victoria and Nathan jumped apart, like they had been stung by a bee.
Victoria was overjoyed. "Bella, I'm so happy you could come to my celebration!"
Isabella replied flatly, "You misunderstood. I'm not here to attend your celebration."
Victoria was puzzled. "Then why are you here?"
Suddenly, Nathan stood protectively behind Victoria, his tall figure blocking Isabella's way. His expression was guarded. "Isabella, your Sis is rarely this happy. Don't cause any trouble."
Isabella looked at him. Nathan was indeed handsome, wealthy, and well-educated. It was no wonder she had once loved him so deeply. But the person he loved was always Victoria. All his tenderness and affection were for Victoria, while he reserved nothing but coldness, indifference, and calculation for his own wife.
That's when Isabella decided she no longer loved him.
"Nathan, I won the championship, and I'm your wife. You didn't throw a celebration for me, but you're doing it for someone else. Don't you think your actions are inappropriate?"
Isabella's voice was emotionless, but Nathan's heart was stirred. A ripple of guilt washed over him.
He rarely showed any remorse, but now he couldn't help but feel some. "Bella, your future is long. I'll compensate you for whatever you want. But for now, don't cause trouble for your Sis." Isabella smiled bitterly.
"In your heart, I'll always be second. But Nathan, what should I do? I also want my husband to put me first."
Nathan's expression faltered. "Isabella, you'd better not cause a scene today, of all days."
Isabella scoffed. "If you can't do it, then just let me go."
"What do you mean?" Nathan asked, puzzled.
Isabella stared into his eyes, her voice firm and resolute. "Nathan, let's get a divorce."
Nathan's eyes widened in shock. "Divorce? Don't even think about it."
He had never once imagined being left by a woman.
Isabella threw a final remark over her shoulder. "I'm leaving this marriage, no matter what."
With that, she turned and started heading upstairs.
Nathan called out, "Where are you going?"
Isabella turned her head, her gaze piercing. "My celebration party is in the presidential suite upstairs."
Nathan's face darkened.
"Who's hosting this for you?"
