Broken Mate by Norisha May

"Rain, I'm going to forget what you just did. I will never accept your rejection." I say and lower myself near her ear. "You are mine, so until I am Alpha of the pack, you and I pretend like we are nothing around others, but you, are mine." I say lowly.

(I will be as patient as I can but on this, I won't budge, she is mine.) She whimpers. "But I... I rejected you. All you have to do is accept it." She says. "Never do this again. Do you understand?" I ask sternly ignoring what she just said. She shivers at my tone. "Yes, Alpha." She whispers.

"Good."

I move another chair close to her and sit. I put my hand on her hair and caress her and surprisingly enough, she doesn't look scared and lets me.

(No one will hurt you once I'm Alpha, I promise you.) A few hours later and I am still pissed. I don't think I have ever been this angry before. (She went through all that and no one did s**t to help her?! How is that possible?) I watch her sleep looking a bit more relaxed.

(She is beautiful. Yes, she's pale and skinny but she's been through so much. And even though she's had it rough, I know she'll make a great Luna. I know she'll care for the weak ones.)

(A pack is only as strong as its weakest member. How does my father not know this? We are supposed to lift each other up and the strong are supposed to care for those that can't take care of themselves, not put them down.)

I sigh. (I don't want to leave her but I have to.) While she sleeps, I kiss her forehead softly and take in her scent.

I leave her still asleep with Preston watching over her in the pack hospital. I make my way in the middle of the night to my dad's office. I'm trying to calm myself before I get there, can't be giving too much away.

(Rain didn't want to talk to me at all, she just wanted me to leave her alone but of course, I didn't. 1 can't wait until I am able to have her in my arms. I won't let anyone hurt her again.)

I remember back to the mall when Grant asked her if she ever smiled. ("Why would I. What is there for me to be happy about." That's what she said and I didn't even notice, I didn't notice why she said that, I just thought she was a serious person. I didn't see the pain behind those words.)

"You're still pissed, aren't you?" Grant asks walking behind me. "Yea. But I know I can't do anything right now." I say and he nods agreeing.

We walk inside the packhouse and on the way in stumble on my mother coming out of my dad's office.

"Son." My mother says looking down. I don't say anything and keep walking opening the door. I don't even bother to knock.

"So, what did you do?" I ask my father and he looks at me confused. "...Evan?" I ask. "Oh, I talked to Abraham, he'll handle it." He says looking back at his papers. (And that's it.... fine, in a few days I'll handle it myself.) "Okay." I say (It's pointless to try and talk to him about it, it's a waste of time.)

(This crap again. I'm so tired of this.) I sigh internally. "Yea."

He looks up at me. "And?"

"I want to meet Alpha James's daughter. I hear she's a beauty." I say.

(And far away from our pack, so it will be a trip that will take time to plan.)

He smiles. "I met her a couple of years ago, she was young then but she looked like her mother who is a very good-looking woman so the rumors are probably true."

I smile hoping that it's convincing enough. "Could you set up a meeting then?" I ask. (This has to be as convincing as possible.) "Yea, once we are done with the ceremony, I'll set it up." He says and goes back to his papers.

I go out of the office closing the door behind me and turn to Grant.

"Make sure that Preston stays with her tonight." I say lowly to him.

"I will." He says and I nod and head upstairs.

(I really want to just go run to her and stay with her but if someone finds me there in the middle of the night, they will ask a lot of questions.)

Once in my room, I sit on my bed looking around.

"I can't wait till she's here, that room she's in will never be given to anyone else."

I get up and take a shower and then go to sleep thinking of her.

(Since I got here, I've been pushing my feelings down so that my impulses wouldn't take over. For two years I've been looking forward and waiting for this. When I'm Alpha, I'll be able to publicly claim her and she'll finally be mine.) The next morning, I get up early and start to head to the pack hospital but when I go down the stairs, 1 see Preston.

"What happened? Why are you here?" I ask him a little panicked. "She left the hospital early, about thirty minutes ago." He says. "Where is she now?" I ask. "She went up to her room, the doctor told her to take it easy today." He says. Inod and quickly turn around and head upstairs. When I get to her door, I knock and I hear her coming down the stairs. She opens the door and she looks at me startled.

(Goddess I want to kiss her. She has a big oversized shirt on with torn-up jeans and just socks. The clothes look old but they are still in better condition than what she usually wears. "Can I come in?" I ask her.

She looks panicked. She looks back up the stairs and then back at me and shakes her head softly. (That irritates me a little but the doctor said that she would need time.)

I nod. "How are you feeling?" I ask her.

"I'm ok." She says in a small voice.

Some of the pack members walk past us and I take a step back putting some distance between us. "Rest today, doctors orders." I say. "I..-" She nods and quickly closes the door cutting me off. I sigh trying not to get angry. (She just closed the door on my face.) T head downstairs to the dining room even though it's a little early and breakfast probably isn't ready

(It...it I wasn't here, what would have happened to her?) Shouting from the kitchen takes me away from my thoughts. (That has to be that old woman Grant and Preston talked about.)

I get up and head to the kitchen and when I get there, the girl Layla is on the floor holding her cheek and the Levi kid is standing on the corner watching and looking tensed.

"You break another egg and I'll break your face next time!" The old lady shouts. I stand there looking at this disgusting old woman. (Because of an egg? Is this what she's done to Rain too?) "Layla is it?" I ask the young girl. The three of them look back at me startled. "Alpha!" The old lady says surprised. "A young girl like you should be out playing and having fun, go." I say. "But Alpha the breakfast-" The old lady says but I cut her off. "Will get done." I say looking at her with a serious expression.

"Go, you won't be in the kitchen today, take the day off." I say to the girl. She gets up and walks away slowly looking like she's not sure of what to do.

I fold my sleeves up and get the spatula. "What are we making?" I ask. "Uh...eggs, scrambled eggs." Levi says. I nod and look at the old woman. "You can leave too. You're not needed here." She looks shocked but does what I tell her without hesitation. (1 am definitely dealing with her as well, once I am able to.)

Thelp make breakfast and in the afternoon, I take some lunch to Rain because she didn't come downstairs to eat. When I get there, I knock on the door but no one answers. I turn the doorknob and the door opens so I walk up the stairs but see no one. I put the food on a table looking around.

(Is she out again?) I ask myself looking out the window, it's cloudy outside, and it's drizzling. I look down to the back of the house and I see her in the back, talking to that fucker Evan and she looks petrified. I rush out of the room. (Goddess please let me get my hands on him.) I quickly go downstairs and make it outside but they are not there anymore. (I'm gonna kill him!)

I walk to the lake and see her walking in the distance over to her spot, I take a deep breath of relief. But it's starting to rain more.

(Where is she going?)

She walks over to that bolder she always sits on but she doesn't sit, she keeps walking and goes into the water fully clothed. (What is she doing?) 1 start to panic.

She keeps walking until the water reaches her thighs and then stops and stares into the distance with the rain falling on her. She closes her eyes and lifts her face to the skies looking like she's welcoming the rain. I walk over closer and watch her just in case.... she has something else in mind.

She then takes a deep breath and bends over putting her face underwater. Then I hear her screaming underwater and I can't stop watching. It's like everything that she has locked inside comes out at that Scanned with CamScanner

Chapter Eleven

She comes back up and takes a deep breath, after another minute of staring into the distance, she starts walking backward, looking relieved and wiping her face.

I want to go to her and make everything ok for her but I can't. And it's killing me. I am pissed, pissed at this pack for making my mate suffer.

I wake up and lie in bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about what Evan said to me yesterday when he cornered me outside.

"You b***h! You got Asher killed. I'm making you pay for that. Sleep with one eye open because when you least expect it, I'll get you and I am going to make you suffer like never before." Evan said walking away from me looking like he was in a rush.

I couldn't take it anymore, when I got to the lake I just wanted to scream, so I did, and it felt good.

(What is going to happen when Kayden is Alpha? I really don't know what he wants from me but I love how he stood up to his father. He said that things would change around here but will it really?... Can I really

trust him?)

I get up and put on an old sweater with short denim pants and sneakers with my hair in a ponytail. I go to the kitchen and I stop in my tracks shocked when I see Kayden in a casual white t-shirt and jeans already cooking breakfast. I look at Layla and Levi and they smile happily at me while they help Kayden.

Kayden looks at me and smiles. "Why...are you cooking?" I ask him softly. He looks at me and smiles. "Just because I felt like it." He says.

I look at Celeste who is actually cooking instead of just watching and she doesn't look too happy. I walk over to the oranges and start peeling them but I am very distracted. Layla starts squeezing the

oranges for me but she accidentally spills a little of it and Levi, Layla and I look at Celeste expecting her to start yelling but she doesn't say a thing.

Kayden walks over to us with a towel and throws it at the spilled juice.

"No harm done." He says and smiles. I get butterflies in my stomach and immediately look away.

We finish cooking, then we start serving and Kayden even helps with that. People on the table look at him surprised.

"Ha! I could eat like this every day." Grant says to Kayden. "Yea very funny asshole. You're helping for dinner." Kayden says. "What?" Grant gasps. "You heard me." Kayden says putting a plate in front of him. Preston starts laughing. "Yea laugh it away, you're helping make breakfast tomorrow." Kayden says. Preston stops laughing but doesn't argue. "Once I'm Alpha, everyone in the pack will help around." Kayden mumbles. (He really is different than his father. His father has never even shown his face in the kitchen once.)

I look away because I was starting to stare at him.

(In a few days he'll be Alpha and I'm a little scared. What does he intend to do with me? Will he keep me a secret? Will he.... force me to mate with him? Will he be cruel? He hasn't really hurt me at all but that doesn't mean a thing, people can hide their true nature easily.)

We finish serving and start to head to the kitchen but Kayden stops us.

"Why are you guys leaving, you should sit and eat too." He says and everyone except for Grant and Preston looks surprised.
