Chapter 36 ~ A Little Too Honest
In the world of werewolves, everyone was aware of the wonderful possibility of meeting your soul mate sooner or later. Considering this eventuality, normally there were two approaches to follow:
1) Get the most out of your single life before meeting your mate.
2) Wait for your mate.
Obviously, Elena belonged to the second category, although she had gone out with some boys and had her fair amount of fun.
Mirko was not really part of any category since he never knew he had a mate in the first place. Surely, class 1) was the one that would suit him the most. Same one where you could place Rex and Marco.
“Ehm” Mirko coughed, avoiding her eyes. Suddenly the grassy ground seemed very interesting.
“What do you mean exactly when you say first?” He investigated, deciding to take a safe path. His strategic abilities could be useful to him in this type of situation; in the world of an Alpha, providing information that was not needed could lead to a decade-long feud.
“Didn’t you-” Now it was her turn to blush and hesitate, which drew the attention of her mate. Mirko snapped his head towards hers; curiosity filled his eyes.
Now it was his turn to blush and hesitate, which drew the attention of his partner. Mirko snapped her head towards hers; curiosity filled his eyes.
“Have you never been with any girl before me, then?”
#Meanwhile, from the majestic skies and the world of the clouds, reserved exclusively for the gods and the goddess of all creatures, Moon Goddess was mocking Mirko. ‘What will you do now, big boy?’ She chuckled, grabbing a heap of popcorn. ’Will you tell her the truth, breaking her heart? Or will you lie like your father did with you?”
Black Devil’s current Alpha had always been an interesting character and she has taken great care of him. The more they suffered and endured, the more she loved his children. #

Mirko POV
’F*k!’ I cursed for the millionth time that day. ‘What the hell do I tell her?’
I knew that the truth would crush my mate, however I could not bear to lie to her especially since she was looking at me with those eyes. Pure trust surrounded by a stupendous innocence.
’You, horn dog!! I have told you many times not to play around with those s*uts!* Craken growled as he paced restlessly ~ inside Mirko’s head.
Rolling my eyes, I snorted at his hypocrisy. My wolf had never complained once when we ‘meet’ with a girl. On the contrary, he had often proposed to discharge our wild energy with a hard-sexual encounter.
‘Yes, sure. So why don’t I remember you ever mentioning or remembering that we might have a mate out there? Hmm? I also recall that you were having a lot of fun.’
‘I do not know what you’re talking about’
Sighing, I wanted to experience some sort of regret as I watched my mate lower her chin, clearly embarrassed by my silence ... confirming her doubts.
My wolf whimpered at the sight, but I couldn’t care less at the moment. He could push his sadness into his **.
“I am so stupid”, her faintly pronounced phrase, had struck me in the heart. She pulled away, taking a few steps back, staring at me with ... bad emotions.
The warmth and softness all disappeared from the moment she left my side. I figured it made sense since my mate embodied those feelings anyway….
Argh!
“Listen, Ely ...” I started, wanting to ease my position, but the glow that she shot me said it otherwise.
The hurt and disappointment in her features made my heart jolted but the past couldn’t be changed or mutated.
“I never thought that one day I would meet my mate. I grew up with the simple idea of not having one, like my father and all the previous Alpha before me.” I took a shaky breath, unable to bear the idea of causing pain to this beautiful girl.
But I couldn’t feel guilty about something I had learned to coexist and believed in all my life: I was born without a mate and, before meeting her, I couldn’t care less.
“And even if I knew I had a mate waiting for me somewhere in the world ...” I paused, trying to figure out if my next words were the right ones.
Should I throw a little lie? Should I omit my opinion? Ultimately, honesty had been the first chapter of the book of wisdom, the foundation of trust and the basis of a relationship. So I opted for the truth, without covering my words with sugar.
“...I would have probably been with other girls anyway.”
‘A little too honest, bro!’
Elena cringed at my bold statement; I could almost see all the small knives that pierced her heart.
Little did I know that my mate would not let me explain my point of view, too wounded by my audacity which had been interpreted as “swagger”, as Elena would later repeat to me.
Little did I know we were going to have our first fight ...

“Oh really? By all means, tell me more!” Her voice was laced with accusation and disbelief, her fists clenched, and posture had stiffened considerably. All the remnants of magic and cuteness from some time ago… when he had asked her out…well, they had all disappeared as if never existed. All dead.
“Was Cornelia one of you several girlfriends? Uhm?”
Her heart stopped when he didn’t answer. Elena heard a pickle of heartbroken at his silence.
“So? What if she was?” He asked without blinking. The unspoken tension in his body was more noticeable that way.
“You can be serious!” She scoffed in ridicule. “Next you’ll be telling me you have babies with all of them and it’s totally fine because it happened before we met!”
Mirko looked at her as if she had grown three heads. “Is this a female thing I should be aware of?”
“Unbelievable.” She let out an aggravated sigh.
“Come El, of course I don’t have children.” He explained in a way he hoped that would solve everything. What a fool.
Elena had never meant to dig into his past, but when he was so sweet asking her out and all she began to think he may have....‘what an idiot I was to even consider that!’ she thought bitterly.
“It’s not such a big deal. And I’d never-”
“THIS is a big deal, Mirko!” Her voice growing angry at his dissent.
“Ely ... my needs and my animal instincts are balanced by the mate bond, but I didn’t believe that I had a ma...” But she interrupted him, tired, and very pissed at hearing his obtuse reasoning.
Without thinking or neither noticing his jaw ticking, she decided to ask the only question that would lead to tragedy.
“Okay, how would you feel if I told you I had sex with 20 different guys before I met you? Hmm? Just because I felt excited, thanks to my “animal instincts“! Would you be happy about it?” Her heart was beating rapidly under the ribs. So rapidly she thought it would have fallen out of her chest.
After those words, a dark shadow seemed to have settled on the world. Mirko’s face darkened considerably, and his eyes became onyx with shades of electric blue. It was frightening.
“What did you just say?”
