Cara's POV

Things quietened quickly once the Council secured Emily and Lisa in their SUV. Knowing them, they were probably both trying to devise a defense for their actions. There was none, so I don't see why they would have considered trying to come up with lies, but they wanted to save

their own skin.

Paxton had stopped them from leaving until Lisa had accepted his rejection. She was furious. Not only had Paxton decided to Alpha command her, but so had one of the Council members. She was forced to do it, but it was under duress. We could all tell what she was thinking. She was going to claim that she was forced into it, and she was. But there was no law preventing it. She could scream and yell all she wanted about it. Their bond was finally broken.

I had been surprised by the sheer number of people who had come to rescue us from Kamaria. I was grateful they were ready and willing to go to extreme lengths to get us back. I knew Paxton wanted to tell me goodbye. After getting into the SUV, I saw him, but I didn't want to speak to him again. He might not understand it yet, but maybe one day, he will realize what he has done to me and to my sisters.

I was glad that the council member in charge, Charles, had taken us to the side before he left. He told me that Paxton would be monitored closely for five years. No one was going to let him slip through the cracks on this. Former Alpha Hugo had stepped forward to vouch for him, So had Rex and his father, Devin. They knew he had committed a heinous act, but Alpha Hugo was approaching sixty now and didn't want to take up the stress of running the pack daily.

The fact that Paxton had admitted that he had committed a crime by condoning murder, as well as forcing one of his men to carry it out, helped him. He had admitted everything to the Council members, including the fact that Clay had come up with the idea. What happened had benefited Clay the most. He was getting the woman he wanted, along with the Beta title. He couldn't have beaten my father in a fight to take it away from him, so he was underhanded in his plan. He knew how much Paxton wanted me and how much Rex wanted Brenna. He led them there and then backed away to watch it be carried out.

In a way, he had outsmarted Paxton and Rex. They never realized how devious Clay really was until this happened. Paxton had agreed to wear a monitor for five years to prove he was not breaking his promise to Alexei. It would also let the Council know where he was at all times. Paxton also had to go back through Alpha training again.

Charles had told him, "It is clear that you didn't understand what it means to be an Alpha when you went there before. This time, you need to focus. To learn what it means to be the Alpha. We will allow you to keep your title if you can make significant changes. But you will be monitored for a total of ten years. If you fail, you will be removed from your position and then imprisoned for ten years for the death of Beta James and his mate Ellen."

We were told that we may need to testify against Paxton and Lisa. My mother and I had already agreed to it. Alexei quickly let them know I would not be coming alone. Jaxon and Kevin both agreed with what Alexei said. Even with the video proof, they knew neither Emily nor Lisa would make this easy on anyone.

Devin looked heartbroken, and they had allowed him to reject Emily before they left. She was screaming about him abandoning her for no reason and still claiming to be innocent. She will not admit to what she has done, but she already has, and we have proof. This was not his fault at all. It was hers. She stole from the pack. She allowed Lisa to run wild in the pack. She had even encouraged Lisa to come after me. Who's fault could it be if not hers? I am hoping that Devin can find himself a new mate. I am sure it might take time for him to come to grips with how badly Emily had hurt him. He will have a lot of trust issues, but who could blame him?

Rex had also been put on house arrest for five years. He had been Alpha commanded by Paxton to carry it out. Despite what he had said, I don't think he would have done it without being pushed into it. He had found his mate, and she will also be keeping an eye on him. She had spoken up for him right after he marked her. She was just as happy to find him as he was to have her. Jaxon was the happiest of all. Seeing how awestruck Rex was let us all know that he had given up on wanting Brenna. I know that she will be pleased about that. Clay had been demoted and banished. His idea of getting rid of our father had come back to bite him in the ass. He would be watched, too, but he was a man without a pack for now.

His former pack banished him once his father had heard about what he had done. Paxton told Clay he had twenty-four hours to get out of the pack. Clay was pissed and finally spoke out. "You were the one who decided it was a good idea, Paxton. You wanted to have Cara so bad that nothing else mattered. Now, you are trying to pass the blame onto me. I just suggested it, I didn't twist your arm, or force either of you to do anything. Why are you destroying my life over a suggestion? You wanted to do it just as much as I did."

"Clay, you knew I was drunk the night you mentioned it. I wasn't in my right mind, as Beta James had just threatened me, and I was pissed. That was all. I didn't think it through to realize what the consequences of it would be. But I admitted what I did after Cara confronted me, and seeing how hurt she was hurt me. I didn't try to hide what I did after that. I told the truth without having to be forced into doing it. I felt horrible about what we had done from the moment they died. The guilt ate me up, and I knew I was wrong. I accepted the punishment that I deserved. You never felt bad about it, not once. You only care about yourself, Clay. Call your friends for help; they did it once to get you here; they can do it again," Paxton ground out in anger.

"Whatever, Paxton, I'll pack up and leave tomorrow. Don't call me again, as we are no longer friends. You valued those bitches over me. Now that we are exposed, you're backpedaling only because you got caught. I swear you are such a pussy, Paxton. You were so excited about finally getting your hands on Cara that you would have done anything. Stop acting like you are suddenly a changed man, you forget, I know you. So you can save the lies. We are done," Clay was vicious in his response.

We are now on Alexei and Anton's jet, and I have to say that I am impressed with how nice it is. I am exhausted, but I am scared to sleep. I know that I will have a nightmare, and it would be so embarrassing to have witnesses to it. "I have you love. You can rest now. No one is going to hurt you again," Alexei told me. I nodded against his shoulder. I knew he would protect me. The issues that had been against us are corrected as Jana and Anika had been dealt with. But the issue my mother is dealing with is immense.

I am watching her through my half-closed eyes. We could have been back in the blink of an eye, but seeing her stiffly sitting there in a chair across from us hurt my heart. She has been happy from the moment she came back into my life. She was really happy once she accepted Robert. I watched as she rubbed her stomach, lost in thought. I froze, as Brenna does that too. Holy crap, she was pregnant. No one just rubs their stomach like that unless they know they are pregnant.

Tears pierced my eyes as I worried about my mother. Her heart had been broken, and her emotions were everywhere. The sting of the tears is burning, and I suspect she is not returning to the pack with us. She is taking these few hours to think things through and make a plan. That is precisely what Jaxon was currently doing with his fathers. They are all three on the couch and discussing how to ensure no more moles are in the pack. I can hear them discussing it with Anton.

Anton had told them he was happy to help because this incident had affected his mate. Jaxon was on a mission to make absolutely sure that this didn't happen ever again. Alexei shifted in his seat as he could feel how upset I was. My tears are soaking into his shirt, and he wants to comfort me, but he doesn't know what is wrong now. He will soon. There are only two things that can happen here. Either Mom bounces from the pack until she decides what to do. Or she will stay, but I can tell she is not ready to deal with Robert at the moment.

Neither of those options was going to be good, as sides will be taken. I had to side with my mother; my sisters were as well. They understood what the root of the problem was. It wasn't that Mom thought Robert was attracted to Adra. It was that Adra convinced Robert that she was a sweet and misunderstood woman who needed his help. These big, strong men ate that up. But that was not how my mother was. She was a powerful woman who could take care of herself.

Lines will be drawn, and I didn't look forward to it. This did explain why my mother was so upset at Kamaria. Her hormones were all over the place. I know this because Brenna's are, too. I have never seen Brenna cry so much in her entire life as she did in the last two days. I don't know much about witch pregnancies yet, but I am going to ask. I may need to know the information for myself.

Alexei and I are not using protection. He wanted to have a child as soon as possible. I could understand it, he has dreamed of having children for a long time. Seeing his brother with his young family had to be bittersweet for him. He loved his nieces and nephews, but he wanted his own.

I will keep my mother's secret. I sent a quick message to her through our link. Her hand froze on her stomach, and she looked around to see if anyone else had noticed what she was doing. No one looked at her, but I was unsure if someone saw it. They may have, but that didn't mean they knew what it meant. But I will not be outing her to anyone. It was her secret to tell, but I am excited about getting a sibling. I will support my mother in whatever she decides to do.
