Chapter 150 SAGE

3

"Should we bring you to the hospital, Sage? I'm really worried about you," Gertrude worried as she patted a wet towel over my forehead.

I've been grunting and screaming in pain since Titus and I ended our conversation. Despite that excruciating pain I've been feeling right now, I can't take the risk of going back to Titus before I can find my children.

"No, I'm fine, Gertrude. The doctors can't do anything about my situation," I replied in between breaths. "But you're burning and in pain. There's got to be something we can do to ease your pain," Gertrude insisted.

I forced a smile on my face. "Honestly, the only thing that can stop this pain is if I go back," I admitted. "Go back? Go back where?" Robert asked, frowning as he stood behind Gertrude, who was sitting on the edge of my

bed.

"It's for the best if I don't involve you in this. You have more than enough help. It will be too much if you're going to be involved in this mess."

"Sage, we're your family now. We'd like to help, Robert insisted.

I'm really moved by their concern, but I couldn't take the risk of them facing Titus's wrath. He's mad at me, and he might use them to hurt me. I couldn't afford to have them involved in this mess.

"I really appreciate everything you've done for me and my children. But please trust me when I say I can handle this," I assured them.

They both turned to each other with worried look on their faces. When they leaving everything in my hands.

they gave me a sweet smile,

"We'll leave you then so you can get rest. If you need anything, we'll be right outside,"

ertrude said.

"Thank you," I replied before they left. As soon as they were gone I let out a grunt that I had been holding back for quite a while. I was in unbearable pain, but I couldn't show it to them as it would only make them worried despite the pain seeping through my bones. "Fuck you, Titus!" I cursed out loud.

Speaking of the devil, I heard Titus's voice over my head. "Why am I was

I seeing you in your room?" he asked; irritation

evident in his voice.

"I told you I'm not going back yet," I replied.

"Fck!" he cursed, and I could practically feel his frustration through our bond. "You are so goddamn stubborn!"

Then-pain. Excruciating pain.

"Ahh!" I screamed as the leg bracelet constricted tighter, cutting off my circulation. The pressure was unbearable, sending white-hot agony searing through my nerves. I could already see my skin turning a sickening shade of purple.

"You're going to lose your damn leg if you don't come back!" Titus roared through our mind link, his fury vibrating through my skull

A bitter laugh bubbled in my throat despite the pain. "I guess you wouldn't mind having a breeder with one leg, huh?" I shot back sarcastically, clinging desperately to the last thread of hope that maybe, just maybe, he still cared enough to let me go.

That he wouldn't actually let me suffer like this. That he'd finally release me.

My heart nearly stopped when I heard his voice in my head.

"I'm coming to get you, Sage."/

Dread clawed up my spine, wrapping around my throat like an iron chain.

No, no, no!

I could barely breathe, my chest tightening as panic took hold. I had known this moment would come. I

knew that he wouldn't let me go that easily. But hearing it now, the finality in His words sent me into a full- blown panic.

He was coming for me.

I gripped my leg where the cursed bracelet still burned, the pain a cruel reminder that I was never truly free. My entire body trembled as I realized what this meant. The signals from the bracelet would lead him straight to me, like a predator locking onto its prey.

He knew exactly where I was. He was probably already on his way.

My stomach twisted violently. I wasn't afraid for myself. I could handle whatever punishment Titus had planned. But Gertrude and Robert? They were innocent. They had done nothing but offer me kindness,

yet if Titus found out they had been hiding me, there was no telling what he would do to them.

I had seen his wrath before.

I knew what he was capable of.

I couldn't let him see me here.

I forced myself to stand, ignoring the sharp jolt of pain that shot up my leg. Every second I wasted was disaster.

"Think, Sage. Think!" I urged myself, my mind racing for a plan.

I needed to leave now.

I couldn't let him find me in this house. I couldn't let Gertrude and Robert suffer for my choices. I had he arrived.

Robert stepped in front of the door, arms crossed, his expression a mix of concern and frustration. "You're

in no condition to be walking around, let alone leaving. Where do you think you're going?"

I swallowed the lump in my throat. I hated that I was making them worry. They had done so much for me already, and now I was repaying them by running off in the middle of the night like a fugitive.

I have to go, I said, my voice strained but firm.

Gertrude's hands trembled as she reached for me, her face filled with worry. "But you can't even walk properly, sweetheart! How will you leave in that condition?"

"I can handle myself. Don't worry about me. I'm stronger than ok," I assured them, gripping the wall for support.

Tears welled up in Gertrude's eyes as she reached out, cupping my cheek. "Please, let us help you." Her kindness nearly shattered my resolve, but I forced myself to stay strong.

"I appreciate everything you've done for me," I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. "But you've done enough. There's nothing you can do to help. I need to make sure you're both okay. And to ensure that, I need to leave now."

Robert exhaled sharply, looking torn. For a long moment, he and Gertrude just stood there, staring at me,

as if trying to find a way to change my mind. But deep down, they knew they couldn't.

Finally, Robert let out a resigned sigh and stepped away from the door.

"Please take care of yourself, Sage," Gertrude said.

"We'll try our best to find the twins. I don't know how, but we'll let you know if we find anything," Robert said in defeat.

I smiled and gave them a tight hug. "Thank you. I couldn't survive without you, guys. I owe a lot to both of you," I told them.

We said our goodbyes, and as I limped away, Gertrude and Robert stood by the door, watching me with worried eyes.

I forced myself forward, my legs screaming in protest with every step. The pain was unbearable, but I gritted my teeth and kept moving. The cold night air bit at my skin.

The wind howled through the trees, rustling the branches like whispers warning me to turn back. My vision blurred, my body swaying with exhaustion. How long had I been walking? Minutes? Hours? It didn't matter, I had to put as much distance as possible between me and that barn.

I clutched my leg, the pain radiating from the cursed bracelet growing stronger with every step. It felt like fire searing through my veins, burning me from the inside out. My breathing turned ragged, each inhale sharp and shallow.

But I didn't stop.

I couldn't stop

I need to get away as far as possible. I can't leave

any traces of Gertrude and barn.

The world around me started spinning. The trees blurred together, the ground tilting beneath my feet. My knees buckled, and I barely managed to catch myself against a tree trunk. My heart pounded against my ribs, my body drenched in sweat despite the cold.

Just a little more.

I took another step, but my body refused to

move. My strength had finally given out.

A sharp gasp escaped my lips as I collapsed onto the damp earth Darkness crept into my vision, my

eyelids growing heavier with each passing second.

And then, through the haze of my fading consciousness, I heard t.

A deep, baritone voice.

A voice that sent a shiver down my spine.

A voice I had been running from.

"Did you really think you could escape me, kitten?"

Before I could react, before I could even process the meaning of his words, the darkness swallowed me

whole.
