Becoming My Ex’s Mother in Law by Aurora Starling

Chapter 79

Chapter 79

Lisa waited for Andrew in his home office. Any minute now, he would get. home from work, and they would be able to start moving on with their lives. post–Crystal.

The article had done exactly what she had intended it to. Her mole inside Ever After Weddings had told her that Crystal had been placed in a supervisory role. and that someone else had been assigned to her wedding. Soon, her father would see Crystal for the slut that she was.

Lisa smiled to herself as she heard Andrew speaking with his guards.

“Princess Lisa is inside waiting for you.” Tyler, one recently promoted to make up for Jeffrey’s reassignment, announced.

“Thank you, Tyler,” Andrew’s voice seemed to boom even in the office.

He walked through the open doors and smiled at his daughter.

“Hello, darling. What can I do for you?”

“I just thought that you might want to talk about how we’re going to move forward, now that Crystal isn’t going to be my wedding planner-”

“Why do you think that? Of course, she’s still you’re wedding planner.”

Lisa’s mouth gaped open as she watched Andrew take his seat across from her. He stared back at her, seemingly amused by her expression but also perplexed by her reaction.

“You have seen the article about her today, right?” she finally managed to ask.

Yes, and I know for a fact that it’s only rumors. Nothing in that article. indicates otherwise.”

Lisa’s cheeks flushed red.

“What about the picture?”

“It’s taken out of context. Just because her hair and clothes are a little messed up doesn’t mean that she did anything inappropriate.”

She was flustered. She wanted to call Andrew out for his blatant lying to cover

up for Crystal, but she also didn’t want him to know that she had spied on them doing…that.

“Father, you know that this doesn’t look good It won’t look good for us if we continue to let her plan my wedding, either.”

“Lily told me that she’s moving Crystal to a supervisory role and suggested that we let one of Crystal’s colleagues, Terri, finish the job for her-”

“Then why don’t we do that? We won’t ruin our image by switching companies, but at the same time, we won’t tarnish our reputation by being associated with someone who sneaks off during her job to blow-”

“Lisa!” Andrew scolded her. He stared her down until she bowed her head in submission. “I know I taught you better than to make accusations like that baselessly.”

“Yes, Father. Sorry, Father.”

“It’s all right. I understand your concerns, but I think that Crystal should be the one to finish the job.”

“But why?”

She knew that she sounded like she was whining. In a way, she was whining, but she was desperate. She had never had to work so hard to get her father to give her what she wanted before.

“Crystal has worked so hard to give you everything that you want and more. She’s going to make this wedding magnificent, the stuff of fairy tales. To change planners now would be to risk destroying that vision, and I don’t want to ruin that for you.”

When he put it that way, Lisa almost felt bad trying to get him to change his mind. Almost

“But should we really risk her walking out on the ceremony to attend to… personal matters?”

Andrew shot Lisa a warning look but did not comment on her wording.

“Sweetheart, I know for a fact that that picture was taken out of context. You need to trust that.”

Her hands curled into fists over the arms of her chair.

“How? How do you know?”

“I was with her at the time,” Andrew explained calmly and firmly. “She was giving me a private tour of the floor where your wedding is going to be held.”

Lisa couldn’t stop the huff that escaped her l*ps. “Private tour,” indeed.

Andrew arched a brow at her, wordlessly expecting an explanation of her reaction.

“Then how do you explain her hair? Her clothes?”

He sighed and rubbed his temples, a sign of frustration that he rarely showed around anyone, especially his daughter. Then he lowered his hands and looked Crystal in the eye.

“I promised Crystal that I would not tell anyone, but she had a meltdown at the wedding,” he said. “She pulled her hair out a bit, and in her ravings and. irritation, the strap of her dress sl*pped.”

“And her shoe?”

He shrugged.

“She merely had to adjust her shoe. It had been a long day, and she was wearing heels. What more can I say?”

Lisa was annoyed by her father’s weak excuse, couldn’t even believe that he was the one to come up with it, but again, she couldn’t call him out on it.

If she’s so stressed, wouldn’t it be a blessing if we took this wedding off her shoulders?”

“Not when it’s so close to fruition. She’ll only stress more about whether it’s getting done properly or not.”

Lisa groaned and rubbed her face.

“Why, Father? Why are you so insistent on keeping her as my wedding. planner? So long as it’s the same company, none of the details will change and no money will be lost, so I don’t understand what the problem is!”

“Crystal has worked very hard for us, so I don’t think it’s fair to yank it away

from her at the last minute-”

“But it’s not as though we’re getting her fired or anything! She still has this supervisory position that you mentioned. Isn’t that more than what most people get to have when a scandal like this arises in relationship to their jobs?”

Andrew stood and walked behind Lisa. As Lisa turned to watch him, he paced. back and forth. Lisa patiently waited for him to say whatever was on his mind.

He stopped pacing and faced Lisa. His shoulders and back straight, his head held high, he addressed her in his firmest, most no–nonsense Alpha King voice. It sent chills down Lisa’s spine.

“Lisa, what I am about to tell you cannot leave this room,” he said. “Even Bob cannot know. Understood?”

She almost asked why, but instead, she nodded.

“I need you to trust that I know the kind of person that Crystal is.”

Lisa opened her mouth to object, but Andrew raised his hand to silence her.

“I need you to trust that because Crystal and I are dating.”

Lisa’s b*dy stiffened. She knew from what she had heard the night before that. Andrew and Crystal were making their relationship official, but hearing it from Andrew’s mouth directly was too much. It made everything too real.

“Now, I know that you don’t like the idea of me taking on a new Luna. Crystal and I aren’t to that stage yet, but if things continue going the way they are-”

Lisa leapt from her seat and charged towards the doors.

“Lisa, where are you going?” Andrew shouted after her. “We need to talk about this! Lisa, get back here!”

Lisa ignored her father’s calls. Tears streamed down her cheeks as walked through the doors and continued down the hall, her mind focused only on getting to her bedroom.

“Lisa, come back!”
