Chapter 21
It was Miriam Leonard who announced it. She was Alicia's colleague in the same department, who was very lively and cheerful.
Pushing the office chair aside, another colleague, Daisy Michels, popped her head out from the back of a computer.
"How can this be fake? It's all on the news! I've heard that the Global Garden project this time will be a profitable one, taking Soaver International to the next level! There are rumors saying that the father and son of the Clements family are not on good terms. Is it true? Clements Group was also on the bidding list this time, but it was Master Frederick who won the contract. If they are on good terms, why did the father and son compete with each other? Or did they want a double chance?" Daisy asked.
Miriam replied, "The wealthy always have a lot of troubles! It's normal for the rich and powerful families to fight between siblings or between father and son, let alone the influential Clements family! It was said that the Clements family has a unique genetic trait or some kind of family rule, where they can't divorce or that they can only marry a virgin. If they break the rules, they'll be punished by God! What era is it now? It must be just a legend! Didn't Master Trevor date countless girls? What about Master Frederick? He even accompanied a woman to buy clothes? Isn't the woman afraid of death or afraid of becoming the topic of criticism? Was the
shop's name Seven?"
Alicia stopped dead in her tracks. Her palms were sweating and she thought, "Well..."
"They aren't talking about me, are they?"
"Wow, it turns out that Master Frederick is so handsome! Alicia, come and have a look!" Miriam called her over.
Miriam was so excited that she reached out and grabbed Alicia. Alicia was so stiff, and she almost passed out. She glanced from the corners of her eyes and found that the photo only showed half of the man's face from the front, while the woman couldn't be seen clearly at all.
"All right, stop fangirling! Aren't you afraid that the manager would hear us? Have you submitted the draft for Skyline Technology? It's already the end of the month. Don't you want a bonus anymore?" Alicia voiced.
Despite changing the topic quickly, Alicia's head was still in a mess. Was the Clements family so complicated? Can't she and Frederick get a divorce? They won't be so unreasonable, right?
The words that Alicia heard from her colleagues stirred her. Even after she got off work, she still felt confused.
When she got home, she found that there was nothing in the refrigerator.
Alicia and Frederick had moved to the Landrum Garden, which was his private house, after returning from the Clements family's house. It was a small European- style villa! Unlike the Clements family's house that was luxurious and full of servants, this place was simple and low-key. It was even quieter here. The house had a small garden and a swimming pool. However, it was not too huge that they would be lost in it.
It was apparent that Frederick did not come back as often. The butler and servants would come to clean up regularly. It seemed that no one had used the kitchen before.
Therefore, she would be the one who cooked when she returned in the evening. Most of the time, she would be eating alone. Frederick would come back to eat occasionally!
Unexpectedly, in less than two weeks, she had gotten used to it. She changed into casual clothes and went out with a handbag. There was a supermarket within ten minutes' journey. She used to go there on
foot.
She picked up some vegetables and some shrimps. Looking at the few items in the cart, she could not help but sigh.
"I really don't understand the world of the rich. Even the goods sold in the supermarket here are twice as expensive as the ones outside! I have to go elsewhere next time!" she thought to herself. When Alicia got home, she was still calculating the money she had spent. She commented while cooking, "I have no idea which country is the shrimp from. It's so expensive! If I had known it, I wouldn't have bought it!"
"It's all my fault. Why am I so distracted? I can't even read the price correctly!" Alicia blamed herself for this.
As soon as she served the dishes on the table, she heard the sound of the door opening. When she went out of the kitchen, someone had already entered the living room.
"Have you eaten yet? Do you want some?" Alicia asked.
"Yes!" Frederick answered.
Seeing that Frederick nodded, she returned to the kitchen, washed some mushrooms quickly, and grilled it with beef. Frederick walked into the dining hall just as Alicia was done setting up the table. Frederick's gaze was then fixed on the hot dishes on the table.
