Ascenders Rift

Chapter 250: The Death of Valoz

Layla felt as if she had entered a bad dream; within it, her mind was in disarray as everyone in the entire world had shattered into bits of pieces. She was trapped at the center of a demonic tree with the only thing protecting her from its reaches being none other than a holy barrier formed by her Common Warding Shard.

After being tormented by the demonic tree, who used all sorts of methods to corrupt her mind, showing her images of Evan dying repeatedly, Layla knew that she was only one step from completely breaking to pieces. But before it could happen, she found light right before that could even happen.

It was a brilliant ray, which though crimson like the color of blood, seething with an innate evil at its core, carried a trace of warmness to her weary soul. Within the instant it appeared, she listened to the pitiful cries from the demonic tree, which soon vanished into a brand-new barrier that formed from an object much similar to her warding shard.

However, moments after, the crimson lights that shone from a distance grew closer and closer until finally enveloping her weakened form—transforming into the handsome figure of a man who gave her purpose from her tragic life experience. The very man who she deemed worthy of her affection.

"Sorry I'm late," Evan said in a gentle voice as he stared down at the weakened Layla in his arms.

Layla didn't care if he came late at all; she strugglingly lifted one of her hands and placed her slender palms onto his face stroking it as she replied, "It's fine, I don't care about anything else. I... I'm only happy that you're alive."

Evan saw the rich affection in her eyes and couldn't help but feel warm, he wanted to respond in kind, even more so as he saw her new but even more gorgeous purple colored eyes staring at him with her puckering cherry red lips ready for action, but right now, it was not the right time, even more so as he and Layla were in their current state.

With his mind made up, Evan kissed Layla on her forehead and spoke, "Me too. You can be sure that I won't ever lose you again, so count on me, Layla. Rest now, and leave everything else to me and the others; our battle in this world isn't over yet."

When Layla heard those words, she made a warm smile as she nodded and replied, "Okay."

As if she relieved a great burden, the sealing mark on her forehead grew even brighter as she rested her head against his chest. Her consciousness soon after faded as the world around her shattered to bits of pieces leaving Evan, who stared at its depths with a cold look in his eyes as if he could indistinctly gaze at the tree suppressed at its core.

As the explosion that had consumed both Layla and Evan faded from the sky, the battle between Joe, Rick, Emilia, and Breya against Valoz had entered its final act.

A blue that moved a speed that left the illusion of a ray of light flashed back and forth along with another blur of blood-red energies. In an instant, a series of collision sounds resounded as the blue blur flew backward, but the blood-red blur flashed and appeared directly before it within a few seconds.

Suddenly, the blue blur that halted had reformed back into Rick, who had an annoyed look on his face, for even though his speed was a tiny bit faster than Valoz, the offense power between them was no different from the heaven the earth.

Valoz menacingly glared at Rick as he arrived in front of his and punched with his full strength from his sole remaining arm, his wounds seeming to have slightly recovered due to his extremely high vitality.

"Human, even if you're a tiny bit faster than me, my Primal Blood Form is far too much for you to handle, even if incomplete, and with my current injuries, with my 20% increase in my entire stats, give up any idea of surviving!"

Following those words, Valoz's fist that glowed in bright, colorful lights formed a giant semi-transparent multiple-colored fist around his arm due to his Primal Psycho Force merger. He struck down intending to crush Rick into bits of muddled flesh.

However, Rick, though unsatisfied that he could fight Valoz strength for strength, didn't complain. He merely smirked at Valoz as his body flashed, causing Joe to appear in his place.

"He can't block you, but I can!" Joe said as he pushed his Arc Shield forward and shouted, "Arc Barrier!"

With a bright earthen colored light, his shield expanded to two meters in size before Valoz's giant fist shade crashed into its surface, creating a loud explosive boom.

Joe's defense was greatly increased after ascending to become a Stage 2 Lesser Tier Ascender, but even so, it wasn't enough to completely resist Valoz's strength. He had to push his overburn talent skill to the max, burning even more of his fat in exchange for muscular prowess to hold his ground firmly.

"Haaa!" Joe cried out as he gave it his all, pushing against the dominant energies from Valoz's onslaught, their collision causing ripples of power to scatter about, rupturing the ground around them.

Breya and Emilia, who had been watching with keen eyes, nodded as they didn't dare to miss this chance. Breya's hair rose up as she held her hand forward, causing her battle energy to spike as she shouted, "Bind!"

Instantly, a cluster of thin threads fired from her positioning, arriving around Valoz in a few seconds of time moments away from binding him.

Emilia's golden hair also danced as her spiritual power rose to its peak when she readied her bow and fired off a rain of bright golden arrows.

Valoz frowned as he saw this; he frowned and reacted, "These darn pests!"

With those words, he kicked the ground, pushing himself backward at incredible speeds, causing Breya's threads to miss binding him by a section. However, Emilia's arrows seemed to have locked onto his soul as they tore through the sky towards his forehead and heart.

'She's targeting my key weaknesses; I can't let them hit!'

Valoz thought as he halted his retreat and struck his palm out, conjuring a barrier of his Primal Psycho Force once more; with a series of bangs, the arrows crushed on to the multi-color force field before exploding in bright golden lights.

Valoz heaved a sigh of relief as he saw this; he thought to himself, 'My wounds are too serious, and I can't tell if that person who injured me is still alive even after going into that explosion. I should take this chance to leave and recover; the God's Tree should be descending at any moment. So long as I get that power, I can solve all of these wretched beings.'

With that in mind, Valoz used his sole arm to conjure another ball of energies which though weaker than his normal, still carried an overwhelming destructive power.

Rick, who had been trying to find a chance, notice his change in an instant. His face sunk as he shouted, "Not good, he's trying to flee!"

"Damn!" Joe exclaimed in anger as he knew that if he chose to escape, other than Rick, they wouldn't be able to follow him, and even if Rick did, he would only endanger himself.

Breya and Emilia had angry looks on their faces, as they didn't like the current scene. Still, Valoz merely smirked as he stared at them. He had already backed up by a wide enough distance from the previous exchange, so even if they charged now, they wouldn't be able to do anything.

"Haha, foolish humans, you might have beaten me today, but I promise that I will see you all again real soon. The fruit of God's Tree will ultimately be mine! Primal Psycho Beam!"

With those words, Valoz raised his sole arm that held the ball of terrifying energies, causing a bright light to shone across this area, filling the faces of Rick, Joe, Breya, and Emilia with dread, but before he could even launch it, there was a sudden change.

"Executioner Slash."

A calm and resonant voice said as an even brighter crimson ray appeared from the heavens; before Valoz could even react, this ray flew directly into the body, leaving a bright line from the center of his forehead down to his feet.

Valoz, at this moment, felt a change. A feeling as if his body had grown lighter and the world around had grown disconnected. Being intelligent life, he naturally knew what this feeling signified; a feeling of terror came into his eyes as he spoke, "I... I... how could I...?"

He wanted to say more but found that now even his voice had started to fail him. With the last of his power, he angled his head up to gaze at the person that took his life.

There, he saw a familiar but nonfamiliar face, a handsome face of a young man with half brown and half crimson hair, his eyes coldly gazing down him as if he was the true superior lifeform.

'This... no wonder, it's that darn.... huuumannn....'

Valoz thought as the world around him grew bleak, and his consciousness forever faded from the world.
