Chapter 0013
Chapter 0013
Ella POV
I had no words to reply to Alexander's ridiculous request, but I desperately needed his help. If this was what it took....
Besides, if I could force myself to kiss someone who completely disgusted me, there should be no problem with kissing someone that I genuinely found attractive. I had no feelings for Alexander, but that wasn't really a factor; this was just to prove a point.
I pressed myself up on my toes so that I could reach and brought my lips to his.
When I kissed David just a few moments ago, it left me feeling cold and disgusted. But the second my lips touched Alexander's, my heart began to beat erratically.
The feeling made me shudder. I felt his warm lips move against mine, and his hand pressed into my back, holding me close. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew I had been kissing him for too long.
I pulled away and stared up at him expectantly,
He looked stunned for just a moment, then regained his composure and smirked at me. He slowly pulled his hand away from me and put a short bit of distance between us.
"You are a talented actress."
felt my face heat up at his words, and I knew that I must be blushing, but Alexander was kind enough not to point it out. He looked over my shoulder down the hallway to make sure that no one else was around. "This is what you need," he said.
He handed me the folded paper, and I opened it to find a small bottle of pills concealed inside. The paper also contained instructions, which I read over quickly. My eyes went wide as I read about the effects of the drugs. I could hardly believe what I was seeing; it was the perfect solution.
"This is... How did you get this?" I asked.
It seemed obvious to me that this drug was illegal, and I wondered how someone like Alexander would even manage to get hold of such a thing.
"Don't worry about it," Alexander replied. "Put it away befere someone sees."
"I'll burn the paper," I said, slipping the drug into the inner pocket of my jacket, then folding the paper and slipping it in as well.
"It should get you what you need," Alexander commented
I nodded. I felt uneasy about this agreement, but he was right; this should have the desired effect. "When are you going to use it?" he asked.
I considered it for a moment. "When there are a lot of people around," I said. "We need to make sure that there are plenty of witnesses."
Is there anything else you need froin me?"
Lomiled slightly. We're helping each other out right now. t the moment, I don't have anything to offer you
in sange for this, but how about this? Il arrange a special dinner for you so that you can come and enjoy the Show too.

Alexander looked amused. I think that sounds fair," he said, "but just so you know, I don't expect this to be a perfect quid pro quo. We don't need to evenly exchange every single time, just so long as it turns out even in the
end."
There was a playful smirk on his face, and I could tell by his tone that he had another meaning.
I opened my mouth to respond, but before any words came out, I heard footsteps behind me. I turned to find David rushing toward me with an angry expression on his face. He was glaring at Alexander. When he reached me, he put his arm around my waist and pulled me close.
"Well, it was nice meeting you," Alexander said, "congratulations again on the engagement. I hope you find the right occasion to wear that dress."
He was very quick-thinking, making it seem as if he and I had just been engaging in small talk when David came upon us. It was a perfect cover.
"Thank you again for the engagement gift!" I said. "It was very thoughtful."
Alexander nodded, then stepped around David and walked off with his head held high.
I resisted the urge to watch Alexander leave. He had been far more helpful than I'd expected, and I found
myself enjoying our interactions despite the occasional embarrassment. It was a refreshing change from being stuck with David, whose arm was so tight around me that it was almost painful.
I pushed against him slightly. "Don't be rude," I scolded. "Alexander gave us a very nice engagement gift."
David scoffed. "We didn't need a gift from a guy like that."
"And what is that supposed to mean?" I asked.
"You need to be careful not to spend too much time around people like him," David said. "They'll take advantage of a naive girl like you."
I wanted to roll my eyes but managed not to. Was this just more jealousy from David?
It seemed absurd, considering his indifference towards me. His interest was purely strategic-to use me to gain control of my family's legacy.
David continued speaking, but I tuned out his words, not wanting to hear more negative opinions about Alexander. As we walked back toward the main room, I noticed that many of the alphas and Lunas had started to leave, and the crowd was thinning.
Once David had finished talking, I seized the opportunity to change the subject. I had used the time to think and come up with a plan for when I could use the drug Alexander had provided.
"You know," I began, "I feel like I owe you an apology."
"Just stay away from him in the future," David replied curtly.
"No, not about that," I said. "I mean for the way the proposal went. I was in such bad shape and wasn't
ready for it I was so surprised and embarrassed that I'm afraid I kind of ruined the day."
David made a thoughtful sound but didn't respond. I know his meant he agreed that I had ruined his big day.
"I was thinking" 1 added, "that we should do something to celebrate properly."
David looked at me with interest "What do you mean?"
knew he would jump at the chance to get a do-over and make a grand gesture to win positive atten Chapter 0013
"I think that a formal dinner might be a good start," I said. We can invite our parents, our families, and friends and have a big engagement dinner at one of those really nice restaurants in the capital."
A skeptical look crossed his face. "I don't know about inviting a bunch of people to one of those expensive restaurants," he said.
I smiled. I had expected him to be worried about the cost. "Well, we'll keep it small then," I said, "nice and intimate, just our families, and, of course, I'll have to invite my good friend Amanda. It just wouldn't be the same without her there."
David's eyes lit up at the thought of Amanda. "That sounds perfect," he agreed.
I returned his smile, knowing that this would be my best chance to expose them to everyone for who they really
Were
"It's a date, then."
