Chapter 26
ELEANOR
Barbara smirked. "Didn't little bestie tell you? She and her family fled from the pack, without the alpha's permission. Don't pretend you didn't know about this" She finally got up, yanking her arm from Paula harshly as she took two steps towards me, dragging her heels that broke when she crashed onto the nearby wall.
Making a ninety degree turn, I shot her a questioning look, one that made her flinch as she held my intense gaze that could pierce through walls of solid rock.
Sabrina left? If that's true, then that means...
Crossing my arms, I snickered before trapping her in a deathly glare.
"So what if I did? What does it have to do with you, Barbara?" I raised my brow, pretending not to seem shocked as I really am now. Starting today, I will never show anyone any sign of weakness they can possibly use against me. I'm sick of my feelings being played and taken advantage of in this way.
Barbara straightened and looked back at me right in the eye, coiling her hands into fists before she spoke.
"Everything! It has everything to do with me you witch!” She practically yelled the words out of her throat, causing the sound of ringing to reverberate inside my ears. She was out of control.
"I was supposed to keep on eye on her! Your father--" Just as she was about to say something next, the door behind me banged open. I whipped my head to look at the intruder realizing it was Adrian. His jaw clenched and his eyes flared up in anger as he seemingly looked right through me, towards Barbara's direction and I twirled around, snapping my eyes up to face him.
"What are you two dawdling around here for? Get yourselves back to the party, NOW." Adrian glared at them, somehow his Alpha blood still enabled him to exude a dominating aura despite not having a wolf at all, still his was nowhere near stronger than Alex's.
Barbara and Paula immediately scurried off and out of the powder room, leaving me alone with Adrian who was still glaring at the two who just ran out of the bathroom door.
But then when he turned his head towards me, I see a smile plastered on his face.
We walked back to the party in silence. Nearing the hall, Adrian suddenly spoke.
"I've met Alpha Victor today. Pretty awesome guy," he chuckled.
I glanced at him with one raised brow.
"How so?"
"He told me you've been bullied a lot by those two, is that true?" He asked.
I looked at him surprised.
"Yes, but why did he tell you that?"
And Victor knew this all along? The knot formed in my stomach twisted painfully, making me let out a groan I barely managed to stop from escaping.
A smile crept to his face.
"He wants me to protect you pretty sister-in-law, keep you safe from harm, "
Before I could open my mouth to speak, I felt someone grab my hand and pull me into a warm embrace. I landed on a wall of rock-hard muscle so I looked up to see who it was.
"What took you so long?" He kissed the top of my head before leaning his head back.
Alex was pouting when our eyes locked at that moment, and I chuckle to myself seeing him make that expression for the first time.
"Sorry, I bumped into someone from my pack” I said truthfully.
He nodded before glancing at Adrian standing not far from my side.
"Let's go back to our tables. They're serving desserts.” He said with a hint of excitement evident in his husky voice.
I blinked at him, but the idea of eating desserts has increased my appetite and energy all of a sudden.
We marched to our table, sitting down I see Victor and Sandra eating quietly while the others were having discussions among themselves.
I fixed my eyes on Victor's face firmly. He stared at me right back with a cocky grin playing on his lips.
Now you don't have anything to hold against me, don't you father? I think to myself.
Victor won't be able to stop me from running away, when I just found out Sabrina has fled from the pack with her family. At the very least, even without knowing the reason why she chose to leave, I can ba assured she will be safe.
"Is everything alright, Eleanor?" I paused, whipping my head towards Victor, my traitor father.
I gave him a sarcastic smile, before I shook my head in response.
"I was supposed to ask you that question, father. How is everything back at the pack?"
Victor lifted a brow and leaned back on his chair.
“Well I'm glad you asked. We're doing perfectly fine. Mike has been training our warriors pretty well.”
I dropped my fork before I shot my head up and smiled.
"Speaking of the devil, Is your beta still beating the crap out of the omegas?” That made everyone in the table freeze in their spots, each turning their heads to look at both of us in shock.
Victor's smile slowly turned into a frown, then he glared at me with eyes burning in full rage. Warning me not to speak anymore lest I want to ruin his reputation. I smirked at the thought.
News flash, Victor. That is exactly what I want.
"What do you mean by this?” Alpha Arragon slammed his hand on the table, creating a loud thud to reverberate through the hall, snatching each wolf's attention towards us and our father-daughter conversation.
Suddenly, an eerie silence covered the entire hall. The sound of breathing being the only audible thing at this very moment.
I blinked at my father innocently before throwing a sideward glance at Arragon.
“It has been my father's way of discipline around my pack, ever since I could remember, really.” I said truthfully.
He can't deny that because in reality, I wasn't the only one who was being abused every single day in the hands of that monster. Mike.
He'd be forcing anyone disobedient to submit whether or not by force, and my father knew that. “Isn't that right, father?” I stared at Victor with a glint of hatred in my eyes. Gripping my knees until my nails were digging into my skin.
It was then that Alex brought back his hand on top of mine, and it made my body relax a little, despite the intense, burning feeling of hatred and rage deep within me.
Sandra looked at me with pleading eyes, telling me not to continue what I was doing to ruin their reputation in front of all packs gathered here tonight.
I noticed Victor gulp. A bead of sweat forming on the side of his head, threatening to drop down to his alarmed face as evidence of his own guilt.
“Eleanor, how could you say something that is obviously not true?” He laughed nervously after saying those shameful words.
I snickered, shaking my head in disbelief as well as awe at my father's impressive display of pretense.
"And how long are you gonna pretend?”
Sandra abruptly stood to her feet, gasping as she looked at me in wide-eyed disbelief. Her hand gripping Victor's tuxedo on his one shoulder, as though urging him to get up and stand along with her.
I stared at both of them and smirked.
"Keeping order with violence?" I slowly rose to my feet, meeting my parents’ shocked gazes until I was standing straight and tall in front of them.
"Isn't it that you've been disguising violence as discipline and even justice, or perhaps,”
I shot Victor a look I vowed he'd never forget. The face of his own daughter he abandoned and betrayed from the very start. Now crawling on the dead ground to bite him back.
"You've not only abandoned your child, but completely disregarded common sense altogether?” Sandra's face heated with a fire burning in her eyes brightly. Anger evident in her face expression as she abruptly reached her hand out across the table as if in a bid to grab me by the neck, when Alex stood and pulled me behind his back before grabbing Sandra's wrist forcefully.
All eyes are now focused looking towards our direction, making everyone in the hall freeze witnessing the sudden commotion that has already taken place.
"I dare you to lay your hands on her again” Alex's threatening voice echoed across the entire hall, making gasps and whispers spread through the crowd while Alex tightened his grip around my mother's whitening wrist.
