Chapter CHAPTER 34
I felt a red hot anger course through my body as Killian and I chased after Victor who led us into the forest. This bastard tried to destroy my life, burn down my pack, and take my mate away from me. He would go down, no matter what it fucking took.
‘Don’t lose him Kil, we can’t let him get away this time.’
Killian gave me a quick nod indicating that he heard me. Victor Chan wasn’t escaping. We’d make sure of that.
Thank Goddess that our mind link was still connected. I needed the advantage with my friend.
My eyes narrowed into slits as Victor stopped in the familiar clearing that Adira and I had claimed as our secret place. Of course this asshole wanted to bring the battle here. I had no doubt he watched us ever since I crossed that pack border.
His chocolate brown wolf eyed us maliciously as he took a defensive stance. The message was clear, this was where our battle would begin and ended.
Killian wasted no time in attacking the man that was once considered family. The nephew and uncle collided seemingly making the earth shake. The elder Chan bit at Killain’s neck using the force of his bite to slam him down to the ground. As Killian used his front paw to claw at his Uncle digging into the bottom of his stomach.
Victor let out a howl calling for whatever help he could get. While the wolf was distracted I used that time to make my attack. With a snarl I tackled Chan to the ground just as two rogues jumped from the woods aiming right for Killian.
Shit.
’You okay Kil?”
‘Worry about Victor, not me. I got this.’ He replies. With a growl, he tore through one of the rogue’s neck covering his snout with blood.
Victor attempted to bite at my chest as I towered over him. Using what strength he had, he managed to push me off of him. It was easy to forget that the man had Alpha blood in him. He would put up a bigger fight than we’d think.
I could feel my hackles rise as we both circle each other. The tension filled this air and I knew this would be ending very soon. Victor charged first using his momentum to slam into me. Just like he did with his nephew Victor bit into my neck shaking with as much force as he could.
A whine escaped my mouth, feeling him break through skin. Fuck.
Raising a paw I swiped at his face managing to tear at his eye. With a roar he fell backwards off of me before rising again giving me a good view of the damage I had done. A long scratch went from the tip of his ear across his face and left eye. Blood trickled down his face. It satisfied me to see the red substance escape his wound.
A yelp from Killian came from behind me. In a split second I turned my attention to see him taking down the second rogue tearing at his throat. Killian whimpered as he lifted one paw up to keep from standing on it. There was no way he could finish this fight.
His brown eyes met mine and we made a silent agreement. Victor was mine. Killian’s gaze widened in a panic, staring at something behind me.
‘Rhys look out!’
Turning around I was met with Victor leaping towards me, claws and teeth bared. Before he could reach me a familiar gray wolf jumped between us getting the blunt force of Victor’s attack.
Lucas.
Victor shot me a victorious look as he clawed at Lucas’ stomach earning a howl of pain from the Beta as blood began to rapidly escape the wound. Feeling another surge of anger I ran towards Victor, revenge at the forefront of my mind.
The rogue leader was prepared for my attack but he wasn’t prepared for my mate to come barreling in from behind. Adira latched onto Victor’s back tearing through as much of his fur as she could bringing him to the ground and holding tightly to the squirming wolf.
I could see the defeating realization in his eyes, he had underestimated her. Adira had managed to defeat his witch and take the rogue down on her own. A surge of pride coursed through my entire being but that would have to wait.
I approached Victor slowly as he continued to try to break from my mate’s strong grip. I had never seen so much power come from Adira but it made me fucking proud that she was mine.
Not giving one more thought I tore through Victor’s neck with such force and anger I nearly decapitated him. All my frustrations for the past month went into that kill, all the anger and pain caused by the rogue in my life was now gone.
This war was finally over.
“Lucas!” Adira shouted now shifted back, as she ran towards her best friend’s limp body.
Killian whimpered and limped towards Lucas and eyed the beta cautiously before releasing a howl into the air. A call for help.
Adira, in all her nude glory, placed her hands over Lucas’s wounds applying pressure to keep him from losing even more blood. I shifted and placed myself next to her doing my best to help my friend. I shot her a look, hoping she would get the message: We weren’t going to let him die.
Selene burst through the forest in a panic. She was shifted as well and halted at the sight of her mate laying limp on the floor. “Luc!” She shouted, running towards him.
Adira and I kept our pressure as she cradled his large head in her lap as tears welled in her eyes. “You fucking idiot! I swear Lucas Steele, if you die on me I’ll never forgive you.” She says in a hushed whisper as she dug her head into his fur.
A low and barely there huff came from Lucas in response. Selene hugged him closer to hide her fearful tears. Adira and I let out a sigh in relief, Luc was hanging on. He would survive this.
---
Not long after Selene arrived the rest of the warriors followed suit helping us get Lucas and Killian to the full infirmary. Adira and I, now dressed in clothing, took in what was left of our pack. The fires were now put out but the damage was already done. Many families lost their homes. We would need to do major rebuilding.
“We’ve got our work cut out for us.” Adira breathed out holding her shoulder that had been slightly wounded in the battle.
I smirked slightly and took hold of her free hand “We’ll do this together.”
She squeezed my hand appreciatively before returning her gaze to the land that her father and grandfather governed for years.
“There you two are.” River says approaching us not looking like he had just gone into battle. Not a fucking speck of blood or dirt covered him. I was pretty sure I had many unknown things stuck in my hair. Lucky bastard.
“Alpha Thompson, we can’t thank you enough.” Adira says thankfully bowing her head towards the Lycan.
River held up a hand “I consider you two friends, I’d do it again if I had to.”
I shot River a grateful smile “This sounds like goodbye River. I assume you need to return to your pack?”
The Lycan put his hands into the jeans he was wearing “My people have been left for long enough. I will leave my Lycans here to help assist with repairs, you could use some extra muscle.” He shot a smile our way “This isn’t goodbye Alphas. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to call me.”
“We will.” I promised holding my hand out for the Lycan to shake “I’ll be in contact with you Alpha.”
River smirked as he tightened his grip “I wouldn’t expect anything less, just...try not to annoy me too often.”
I chuckled “No promises.”
With one final goodbye River and Elias now as their beasts, took off into the woods back to the pack where Lycans and wolves lived side by side.
I had a feeling we’d see him again soon.
