Chapter 236 by GloryWrites
#236 “Sophia Shouldn’t Know About Us.”
The next morning, Alexander woke up to the aroma of coffee wafting through the apartment. As he opened his eyes, he found Sophia already up, preparing breakfast in the kitchen.
“Good morning, love,” Alexander greeted her, his voice still heavy with sleep.
“Good morning, sleepyhead,” Sophia replied, flashing him a warm smile. ” Breakfast is almost ready. I made your favorite.”
Alexander stretched and made his way to the kitchen, wrapping his arms around Sophia from behind. He pressed a soft kiss to her cheek, feeling a sense of comfort in her presence.
“Thank you, sweetheart,” he said, his voice filled with gratitude.
They enjoyed breakfast together, laughing and chatting about trivial things. However, as Alexander’s phone rang again, Sophia couldn’t help but feel a pang of annoyance.
“Sorry, I have to take this,” Alexander said, giving her a quick apologetic smile before stepping out of the kitchen to answer the call.
Sophia sighed softly, feeling a mix of frustration and curiosity bubbling inside her. She hoped that this call wouldn’t take too long, eager to spend time alone with Alexander.
As Alexander continued his conversation in the other room, Sophia took a moment to gather her thoughts. She couldn’t shake off the feeling of unease from the previous night. The words she had overheard, “Sophia shouldn’t know about us,” echoed in her mind.
With a determined look on her face, Sophia decided to find out what was going on. She quietly made her way to the room where Alexander was on the phone, careful not to make a sound. She stopped just outside the door, straining to hear their conversation.
“I understand,” Alexander was saying, his voice low. “Yes, we need to be careful. I’ll talk to you later.”
Sophia’s heart skipped a beat as she heard the end of the conversation. What were they hiding from her?
As Alexander hung up the phone, Sophia quickly made her way back to the kitchen, pretending to be busy with the dishes. When Alexander returned, he found her standing by the sink, her back turned to him.
“I’m thinking of going out with Evelyn today,” Sophia mentioned, turning around to face Alexander.
Alexander nodded. “Sounds good. Have fun.”
Sophia immediately took out her phone and called Evelyn, arranging to meet her. The two decided to go to a nearby café. As they sat down with their drinks, Evelyn’s face looked a bit tense.
“I don’t have much time,” Evelyn said abruptly, stirring her coffee.
Sophia became even more suspicious of Evelyn’s demeanor. Something wasn’t right. “What’s going on, Evelyn? You seem tense.”
Evelyn avoided her gaze for a moment before replying, “It’s nothing. Just a bit stressed out with work.”
Sophia wasn’t convinced. “You never act like this, Evelyn. What’s really going on?”
Evelyn shifted uncomfortably in her seat, her eyes darting around the cafe. ” I… I just have a lot on my plate,” she stammered.
Sophia’s curiosity deepened, and she started asking her friend more questions. “Where are you going after this? And with whom?”
Evelyn hesitated before replying, “I have to meet someone. It’s… it’s nothing, really.”
Sophia narrowed her eyes, sensing something wasn’t right. “Evelyn, you’re making me nervous. Just tell me what’s going on.”
Evelyn sighed, fidgeting with her coffee cup. “I… I can’t tell you, Sophia. It’s… complicated.”
Sophia felt a pang of frustration. ” Complicated? What do you mean, Evelyn?”
Evelyn looked away, her voice barely above a whisper. “I promised I wouldn’t tell you.”
Sophia’s heart sank as she realized Evelyn wasn’t going to divulge anything. She felt a mixture of confusion and betrayal. “Evelyn, please. I need to know.”
Evelyn looked back at Sophia, her eyes filled with regret. “I’m sorry, Sophia. I can’t.”
Sophia’s mind raced with questions, but she knew pressing further wouldn’t help. She reluctantly decided to drop the subject, feeling more puzzled and uneasy than before.
When Sophia arrived home, she found a note from Alexander on the kitchen table:
“Sophia, I went out for a while. Back soon. Love, Alexander.”
Reading the note, a sense of unease crept over her. Her mind raced with questions. Why didn’t he tell her where he was going? What was so important that he had to leave without saying a word? Sophia’s thoughts spiraled out of control, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.
Her anxiety reached a peak, and she decided to call Kyle. As soon as he picked up, she launched into her concerns.
“Kyle, something’s not right. I think there’s something going on between Alexander and Evelyn,” Sophia said, her voice trembling with worry.
Kyle chuckled. “Sophia, you’re jumping to conclusions. You’re overthinking it.”
“No, Kyle, I’m serious. Evelyn’s been acting strange, and now Alexander just left without telling me where he’s going,” Sophia insisted.
Kyle paused for a moment, then decided on a believable lie. “Alright, Sophia. Here’s the truth. Evelyn is going to inherit her father’s bank soon, and she wants Stone Enterprise to work with her and make this her first big break. She doesn’t want to tell anyone until it happens because she wants it to be a surprise.”
Sophia listened, her worries beginning to fade. “Are you sure, Kyle?”
“Absolutely,” Kyle replied. “So don’t worry. Everything is fine.”
Sophia felt a wave of relief wash over her. “Thank you, Kyle. I feel much better now.”
“Anytime, Sophia. Take care. Don’t stress too much,” Kyle reassured her before hanging up.
Sophia let out a deep breath, feeling reassured by Kyle’s explanation. She decided to trust him and waited for Alexander to return, her worries gradually fading away.
