Chapter 7.1
Chapter 7.1
Faded stars were scattered all over the ground.
Isabella‘ s face turned an alarming shade of pale. She abruptly crouched down, her breathing ragged, muttering to herself.
“How… how did it break?”
I sensed something was wrong and immediately asked, “Are you okay?”
She didn’t respond, just stared blankly at the shattered glass in her hands, blood from a fresh cut dripping onto the floor.
Before I could move to stop her, the study door swung open.
Lucas stepped in, his expression turning grim at the sight before him. He rushed over to Isabella, helping her to her feet with gentle urgency.
“What happens?”
My voice caught in my throat, and I struggled to find the words to explain.
He softly calmed Isabella, who gradually began to settle.
His gaze darkened as he noticed the blood on her delicate hand. “I’m taking you to the hospital,”
he declared.
Isabella leaned into him as she stood, clutching his sleeve tightly.
“I’ll take Isabella to the hospital. Wait for me here, I’ll be back soon,” Lucas instructed.
He helped her out the door without sparing me another glance.
I stood frozen by the window, watching as his familiar car pulled away from the complex.
Through the window, I could make out a shadow in the passenger seat, leaning against the driver‘ s shoulder.
The scene overlapped with another in my mind.
Flames danced, and heat waves surged.
In my panic, Lucas had walked away without a backward glance, disappearing into the smoke–filled hallway with another figure.
I felt a coldness on my cheeks, and as I raised a hand to touch my face.
I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly at the tears on my fingertips.
“Why would I cry?”
