Chapter In Regret Novel 23
Chapter 7
The agent's voice crackled through the phone, and I watched as Lorcia's expression began to falter. "I'm sorry, Lorcia," he said, his voice professional yet blunt. "Monologue refused the offer. She told us not to contact her again, and she made it clear that she won't perform for a cheater-especially not at a wedding." Lorcia's face drained of color, her lips parting in disbelief. "What?!" she shrieked, her voice cutting through the room.
I pressed my lips together, trying-and failing-to suppress the laughter bubbling up inside me. The sight of her, red-faced and desperate, was almost too much.
Her outburst drew every eye in the room, whispers spreading through the crowd like wildfire. They were all witnessing her humiliation, and there was no escaping it.
A middle-aged man, Lorcia's father, strode over, his face a mask of disappointment. "Lorcia," he said sternly, his voice low but authoritative. "I raised you to behave like a lady. Who gave you permission to lose your temper like this in public?"
Her hands clenched Into fists at her sides, her voice tight with anger and shame. "I'm sorry, Father," she muttered, her eyes shooting daggers at me before she stormed off after him.
But not before she hurled one final threat over her shoulder. "I won't forget the humiliation you caused me today. I'll make sure you pay for this."
I raised an eyebrow, letting my voice slip into a cool, mocking tone. "Funny. I don't plan on letting you off the hook, either."
Her steps faltered, and for a brief second, genuine shock flashed in her eyes. She couldn't believe spoken to her like that, that I wasn't afraid of her threats. She opened her mouth to retort, but the murmurs from the crowd only grew louder, suffocating her pride. She glared at me one last time, before hurrying after her father, tail tucked between her legs.
As she disappeared, I allowed myself a quiet moment of satisfaction. The rush of pleasure was undeniable. She had wanted to humiliate me, but in the end, the tables had turned.
The party continued around me, but my focus drifted. I found a quiet corner to sip my drink, hoping to blend into the background. Yet one by one, people approached, eager to engage with the woman who apparently had a connection to 'Monologue.' I smiled, offered polite responses, and handled each interaction with grace, though inwardly, my patience was wearing thin.

Finally, as the crowd thinned, I seized the chance to slip away. The alcohol had begun to cloud my thoughts, making the room spin slightly. I stumbled toward the restroom, hoping a moment of solitude would help clear my mind.
But as I stepped out, I froze. In the dimly lit hallway, there was Lorcia-her bright red lips pressed firmly against Lorik's cheek. My chest tightened, and for a second, my vision blurred with shock. But then it became clear-this was intentional. A taunt, a deliberate attempt to provoke me.
Lorcia's eyes met mine, her lips curling into a cruel, satisfied smile. "Am I interrupting?" I asked, my voice calm and indifferent, though inside, the sting was sharper than I let on.
Lorik's eyes widened in surprise, clearly caught off guard by my sudden appearance-or maybe by the cold, unaffected tone in my voice. Before Lorcia could deepen her kiss, Lorik pushed her away,

"Shirley-" he began, trying to explain, but I didn't give him the chance. I turned on my heel, unwilling to let him see the hurt beneath my carefully composed exterior.
Lorcia's voice, venomous and shrill, echoed after me. "What makes you so arrogant? Without wolves, you're nothing but a pathetic loser!"
I paused, my back still to them. Then, as if summoned by my unspoken fury, Lena, my wolf, flickered beside me. Her form loomed over me for just a moment, her strength and presence undeniable. It was enough to silence Lorcia, her face paling in disbelief. "What... what is this?" Lorcia stammered, her voice shaking. "That can't be! Shirley, you must have tricked everyone!"
Lorik stepped forward, his expression a mix of confusion and something else-doubt. "Shirley... was that your wolf? You need to explain."
I didn't dignify him with a response. My eyes flickered over his face briefly before I shook off his attempt to grab my hand and walked away, my mind reeling. Behind me, I could hear Lorcia cursing under her breath, her voice trembling with frustration.
Back in the reception hall, the dizziness returned, the alcohol coursing through my veins. The edges of my vision blurred, and before I knew it, I found myself slumped in a familiar carriage. The soft glow of the dim lights illuminated Lorik's face as he sat across from me, his gaze intense, almost suffocating.
"I've been a mess these past few days," he murmured, his voice low and raw. "Without you... everything has fallen apart. I made a mistake, Shirley. Maybe we can work things out."
heart hardened. The words stung, but they didn't sway me. "Never." My voice was ice, and I
