After dealing with everything, Crispin looked at Natalie and said "Miss Jarvis, go rest. I'll handle things here. Don't worry. The doctor said aside from a broken leg, he's mostly fine. "Hmph, scum like him is lucky I didn't beat him to death. I'm being so generous."

Natalie glanced over at Curtis, recalling their marriage. Back when they used to travel together, he had been so kind and attentive. Now, she couldn't understand how he had changed so drastically. Her phone started ringing. Natalie looked at the screen and saw it was Grace calling. Without a second thought, she blocked the number.

Natalie had often heard people say that marriage could lead to difficult in-law relationships. She'd always thought if she tried to be thoughtful, it would prevent problems from arising.

But it turned out that kindness only invited more trouble. The nicer she was, the more they took advantage of her.

Natalie returned to the hospital room and spent some time chatting with Elara. Lysander had stepped out for a bit. Seeing Elara injured like this brought tears to Natalie's eyes. Elara noticed. "Why are you crying?" Natalie lowered her head. "I just feel like this whole marriage thing is pointless. I spend every day taking care of her at the hospital, and in the end, this is what I get."

"It's not too late to end things," Elara said, watching her closely. "Uncle Harold is already on his way. When he gets here, he'll take you home. Hazel will handle the divorce, and you won't have to deal with them anymore." Elara was genuinely concerned about Natalie. She couldn't imagine what might happen if Natalie continued putting up with them. Natalie looked at Elara, her eyes still red.

Not long after, Harold arrived. When he saw Natalie and Elara both injured, he paused for a moment before coming over. Natalie didn't speak; she just sat there, quietly wiping away her tears.

"Hello, Uncle Harold." Elara greeted him.

"Are you alright, Elara?" Harold asked.

"I'm fine," Elara replied. "It's Natalie who got hurt. You should take her to rest first."

Harold turned to Natalie. "Come on. Let's go." Harold took Natalie back home, while Elara returned with Lysander.

With Juan there to look after her, Elara didn't need to stay in the hospital, Lysander's place was as well-equipped as any hospital.

When Barrett heard about Elara's injury, he hurried over. Elara was sitting at the dining table, cheerfully enjoying her food. Barrett looked at her and asked, "Is it serious?"

Lysander answered, "Very serious." To him, even a scratch on Elara's finger was worth exaggerating.

Seeing Lysander so intent on misleading Barrett, Elara clarified. "Dad, I'm fine. Really, I'm perfectly okay."

Barrett came over and inspected her. "Perfectly okay? You're way too reckless."

Elara replied, "But I couldn't just ignore Natalie in that situation. I couldn't stand by and watch her be bullied."

Barrett sat down beside her with a serious expression, watching her closely. Elara reassured him. "Alright, don't be angry

anymore."

She glanced up at Lysander. 'He must have exaggerated everything, which is why Dad's so worried, she thought.

Barrett then asked, "Are you coming home with me, or staying here with Lysander?"

Lysander froze, visibly taken aback. Elara looked up, noticing Lysander's darkened expression, and then turned to her father. "I'll stay here."

'If I leave, Lysander might go crazy. Besides, I don't want Dad to worry too much, Elara thought.

Hearing her answer, Barrett said, "I haven't seen you for a while, and you've already moved in here? How long has it been since you came home?"

Barrett'd assumed they would at least wait until marriage to live together, but it seemed they'd been too eager to wait.

Elara explained, "Lysander was injured before, so I came to take care of him. That's why..."

"Now you're injured, and he's the one taking care of you. So I'm just the extra here?" Barrett said with a serious expression.

Elara replied, "Dad, I'm fine. Lysander will take good care of me, right?" She looked over at Lysander.

Lysander nodded. "Yes." He certainly didn't want Elara to leave.

After Elara finished her meal, Lysander walked Barrett out. At the door, Barrett looked at Lysander, who was usually a man of few words, and said, "Elara really does care about you now." Barrett could tell that Elara genuinely trusted Lysander. There was some comfort in that, yet a bit of sadness too. She was, after all, his beloved daughter.

"I know," Lysander replied.

Barrett looked at him and said, "I'll head out, then. I'll be back tomorrow to check on her."

"Take care," Lysander said.

When Lysander returned to the dining room, Elara had nearly finished eating. She got up and went back to her room, not to rest, but to sit down in front of her laptop.

"What are you doing?" Lysander asked.

"I haven't written anything for my novel today," Elara replied.

Lysander was momentarily stunned. 'Her dedication is almost unbelievable,' he thought.

"Can't you just take a proper bvsander asked.

Elara typed a few words but felt Lysander's intense gaze on her like he was practically burning holes into her with his eyes. Unable to focus under his watchful stare, she finally agreed to rest.

With him watching her like that, she couldn't get anything done

For the next couple of days, Lysander didn't leave the house, staying by her side to look after Elara. Elara felt as if he were treating her like she was completely incapacitated.

Only when she started feeling noticeably better did Lysander finally feel reassured enough to go back to work.

Before he left, Lysander looked at her sternly. "Don't go wandering around on your own. Next time you go to meet anyone from the Kerwin family, make sure to take Crispin with you." He was still upset about Elara getting herself hurt. Elara nodded. "Okay."

Lysander saw her putting on a "good girl" act and knew she was just telling him what he wanted to hear. The moment she was on her own, she'd likely be off doing who knows what.

"Are you actually listening to me?" he asked.

"Of course I am. Don't worry." Elara hugged him, affectionately muzzling him. "Now

on."

After Lysander left, Elara went straight to Natalie's place. Natalie hadn't been going anywhere either for the past few days. She used to visit the hospital daily to take care of Grace, but now that was no longer necessary.

With Curtis injured and a broken leg to deal with, Grace's constant fussing seemed to have vanished. Now she only had the energy to worry about her son, leaving everyone else alone.

Once Elara was fully recovered, she and Hazel visited the hospital together.

Curtis was somewhat better, though he was still bedridden with a broken leg. Even if he did recover, he'd end up with a permanent limp.

Lying in his hospital bed, Curtis glanced at Elara and said, "I'm not signing any divorce papers. If she wants a divorce, she can come and beg me herself."

Even after all that had happened, Curtis was determined this was a matter strictly between him and Natalie.

Elara replied, "Do you really think she's coming

to see you?"

"Whether she does or not is up to her," Curtis said. "But I'm not divorcing her." He clearly had no intention of being reasonable.

From her wheelchair, Grace sobbed. "Curtis had to go and marry a bitch like that, bringing us nothing but bad luck. No wonder I had a car accident on their wedding day. It was God's way of warning us..." SEND GIFT
