Chapter 348 Three Veterans
When Samuel Shao entered the bedroom, he noticed that Ella Bo wasn't there. He thought that she must be in the next room, making the bed for John Shao, because he was coming back for the weekend. After he changed his clothes, he went to her, and said, "Honey, I'm gonna go out for a while."
Puzzled, she asked while putting the sheets on the bed, "Why? Isn't it too late?"
"Well, it's about work, I have to meet someone, and talk to him today. Honey, go to sleep early and don't wait for me!" said Samuel.
Ella believed him without a doubt. "Okay, do you want me to come with you?" she asked.
"It's all right. You'd better stay at home and take care of Sally and Felix. I'll be back soon enough." He then grabbed his coat, and went downstairs.
"Fine, take care!" said Ella.
"Okay!"
Inside the Chengyang Private Hospital
Daniel had been moved to a VIP ward. He was pale, and surrounded by a group of people, while Janet Shao was watching over him with tears in her eyes.
"No big deal... It was just a tiny bullet."
Daniel soothed her, and stroked her hair with his uninjured hand, and smiled at her.
"Jane, there's no need to worry about him anymore, he's strong enough. He didn't even need drugs when we took out the bullet out of him," said Sven Si, behind his mask. 'What? It must have hurt very badly!' she thought. Tears then began to roll again on her face.
Daniel gave Sven a dirty look, and Sven shrugged. He didn't mean to say that.
"Don't cry, honey. I'm fine now!"
"I can't help it... It must have hurt a lot..." said Janet. She felt her heart slowly tightening. She hated to see him injured because of her...
Jerry Shao was standing beside them with his arms folded across his chest. "Daniel, could you please stop my sister from crying?" he said, pretending to be angry with him. "Sure!" Daniel replied to him without any sort of hesitation. Then he pulled Janet near him, and pressed his lips over hers.
She stopped her weeping almost in an instant.
"Woah! That's some public display of affection going on here," said Sven. He waved his hand towards the now red-faced nurses to leave them.
"Daniel, do we need to go and leave the battlefield to you?" tutted Jerry.
Janet flushed. She pushed Daniel away from her, banging on his shoulder.
"That would be very nice! Bye!" said Daniel straightaway.
"How long can you last with only one arm?" asked Sven deliberately, while whistling to them.
Janet felt puzzled about their manner of speaking. 'What did they mean by battlefield?
What did Sven mean with his last sentence?' she mused.
"I can't tell how long, but I'm sure that I'm able to hold her up in one hand..." His mouth was then covered by Janet's, now blushing shyly.
"Stop your nonsense. Did you forget about your pain?" said Janet.
She knew to what he was getting at, so she stopped him immediately.
'How could he be such a loose tongue in front of Jerry and Sven?' she thought.
Now, she understood what "battlefield" and "last" really meant.
'Three veterans,' she thought.
They were talking about embarrassing things, regardless of her being there besides them.
Daniel took her hand down from his face. He knew that she was shy, and he decided to drive the rest away. He said, "Isn't it getting too late? I think you should go home now." "Okay, I'm going back to my wife and son!" said Jerry.
"I'm not leaving, I want to stay with you. You can pretend that I don't exit if you like!" snickered Sven.
"Then I'll call my sister, and tell her that it would be a good time to date others, " retorted Daniel.
Sven knew that Daniel always did what he said, and he dramatically cried at him, "Daniel Si, I saved your life! How could you be so ungrateful to me?"
"Go away already!" said Daniel, throwing a pillow towards him.
Sven caught it and then threw it back, and said, "Hey, back to you! Bye-bye!" The pillow dropped right on Daniel's injured arm.
His face immediately turned pale because of the sharp pain, and furiously stared at Sven leaving the room.
"Are you hurt?" asked Janet, worried.
"... No." The pain lasted only a few seconds.
Janet bent over and picked up the pillow, patted it, and then placed it behind him. "You should rest now, Daniel. Don't worry, I'll be here with you," she softly said.
But he shook his head, and motioned her to sit by him. Then, he put his hand on the back of her head, pulled her face to him, and then kissed her.
Since there were no others in the room, Janet didn't stop him this time.
The kiss seemed to never end, that is, until they heard a loud cough coming from behind the doorway.
Janet hurried to let go of Daniel, and they both looked towards the door.
Their fathers entered through the door. Oops!
She felt ashamed to be caught by them while they were kissing.
With a quick glance at Daniel, she greeted them in a low voice, "Dad, Father*."
"We came to see Daniel," said Samuel Shao, awkwardly.
"It seems that there's no need for us to worry. If he's able to be romantic, then he's alright," said Harry Si, while throwing his son a dirty look.
"You always knew me better than the others. Now that you know that I'm fine, can you leave?" said Daniel. He seemed to be annoyed by their unexpected visit. Harry's face grew dark, but Samuel laughed, and walked up to them. He accidentally touched Daniel on his wound, and Daniel gave a painful grunt. Janet hurried to take her father's hand off of Daniel, and said, "Dad, his arm is injured! You should be more careful!"
Samuel noticed her worry for Daniel, and the idea that his daughter no longer belonged only to him quickly flashed in his mind. He sighed heavily. "Are you still trying to hold back from us?" asked Samuel with a slightly reproachful tone.
He knew that Daniel didn't want to worry them, but this matter was serious, and he shouldn't have hidden it from them.
"Oh, yeah, about that," admitted Daniel. "We'll take care of it. Dad, we need mom and your help in the company," he continued. He had more important things to focus on for the time being.
Harry chuckled at him, "Oh, well, you know that I'm your father now. Where was your fury when you questioned if I was your father last time?"
Daniel didn't reply this time. He didn't expect that his father would drag up the past again. 'Grrr!'
"Dad, don't tell mom about this. I'm checking out of here in a couple of days," said Daniel. He held Janet's hand and stroked her fingers.
But Janet withdrew her hand in embarrassment, and reproached him in her mind for his self-indulgence in front of their parents. "What did Sven say?" asked Samuel.
"He said that I was fine and that I just needed some time to fully recover," answered Daniel 'It's just a bullet wound, it's not that bad. I've been shot worse than this before. What really bothered me was the unimaginably grey days spent without Janet!' thought Daniel to himself.
"Well, alright then. Now that we know that you're not going to die, I suppose that we should be on our way now! Jane, let's go home. Leave him alone!" said Harry, waving his hand towards Janet.
Daniel harked at him, and cried, "What are you saying there?" Looking resentful, he continued, "You can leave, and believe me, I won't stop you, but don't take my wife away from me. She has to stay here!"
