Chapter 9
Ace
Nora followed me as I walked next to the flower beds to the small white gate that separated the garden from the pool. No one was allowed to be here, and I knew that. When Alice suggested I show her the pool, I knew she was just saying that so we could be somewhat alone.
I opened the small gate and watched Nora as she looked around, clearly impressed. Wrath placed a lot of value on their home, and he built everything on his own with a little help from us, but a lot of it on his own. Next to the pool, he built a round bench that lay in the shade and was covered by a small white pavilion. The carving and the beautiful handiwork in the wood were all his credit, and I knew that he was damn proud of his work.
“This is beautiful,” Nora said quietly as she marveled at everything.
“It is,” I said as I looked at her and definitely didn’t mean the pool.
Her eyes were shining, and her smile was big as she touched the water with her hand.
“Do you want to jump in?” I asked her, laughing.
“Oh no... I don’t have a swimsuit with me. Besides, I can’t show myself like that anymore,” she said sadly.
“You mean your scars?” I asked her, and she nodded.
I took off my cut and my shirt, and she looked at me, confused, until her eyes fell on the tattoos that covered my upper body. She stood up and looked at the different patterns that were put together like one giant picture but then it seemed she could see the hidden scars underneath. There were bullet scars...knife scars, some quite large and many smaller ones. Her fingertips touched my skin, and I watched her study each one. She looked up at me, and I smiled at her.
“These are not scars, Nora... You can look at it as your greatest failure, or as what it is... the proof that you are a survivor... A fighter, a beautiful woman who wears her scars like war paint. Don’t make yourself smaller than you are. You’re so much more than just scars,” I said to her.
“Maybe I should get a tattoo too?” she asked, smiling.
“If you want it... sure,” I replied as I looked at her face while her fingertips still glided over my chest, feeling the scars.
Her eyes studied me, her gaze slid from my eyes to my lips, and she took a step back with flushed cheeks.
What was that? I smiled as I realized that she was considering kissing me.
“It’s really too warm today not to jump in the pool,” I said as I wanted to break the silence between us. I kicked my biker boots off my legs and looked at her, laughing.
“No, you don’t,” she said, giggling as I picked her up, and she shook off her sneakers.
“Yeah, I do,” I said to her as I turned us around with a smile and let us fall with our clothes on into the pool.
As I emerged from the water, she laughed as she turned to me and held on tight. I was tall enough to stand in the water while she had to swim. I pulled her towards me until I felt her body, and she instinctively wrapped her legs around me. I just held her and looked at her, her wet hair framed her delicate face, and her eyes seemed a little darker from the dusk. I saw no fear in her gaze, she was calm, and my touch was not uncomfortable.
Nora held onto my shoulders, and I felt her small hands as they glided over my skin into my hair, and I looked at her lips when I noticed that she was biting her bottom lip. I freed her lip with my thumb and cupped her face as she looked at me with her mouth still slightly open. We were so close that I could feel her breath as she pressed herself even closer to me and looked from my eyes to my lips as I leaned in towards her.
“Alice will kill you,” I heard Duke’s voice as he interrupted us. And I will damn kill him!
Nora giggled and hid her face in the pit of my neck, shy and embarrassed at Duke’s sudden appearance.
“Oh shit, I didn’t mean to bother you,” he said, laughing as he walked back with a big grin on his face and his phone still attached to his ear. He obviously wanted to make a phone call in peace, but he didn’t have to show up here right now.
I shook my head as I watched him go and turned to Nora, whose face was flushed, and she looked down, embarrassed.
“If you tell me you don’t want it, I’ll never try again. But I won’t let Trashboy ruin this moment,” I said quietly, and she looked at me and nodded.
“I need to hear it, doll... say you want it,” I told her.
She pulled herself a little closer to me, her face at my level, so close I swear I could almost feel her lips.
“I want it, Andrew,” she whispered and smiled shyly.
Her soft lips were the gateway to heaven, and I swear I lost touch with reality for a moment. When I kissed her, I felt goosebumps on her body, and she returned the kiss. It was a short kiss, and I didn’t want to overwhelm her, but the kiss was so tender and full of emotion that I felt physical pain when our lips parted. But she didn’t want to end it, Nora pulled me back to her and pressed her lips to mine. Full of hunger and desire, this kiss was more exciting than anything I’ve ever felt in my life. Our lips moved in sync, and she cupped my face with her small hands. When she parted her lips, I accepted the invitation to enter her mouth... to taste and explore. Our tongues battled dominantly, and I simply pulled her closer to me as I marveled at the feeling she was creating inside me.
I don’t know how long we stood in the water and just kissed each other, but when we became breathless, we separated and she hugged me. A real hug without fear, without any concerns, she wanted it, and I hugged her back.
“I’m cold,” she said quietly, and I laughed.
“Sure, doll, let’s get out,” I replied to her. I took one of the large towels that was standing by the bench and put it around her. Her delicate body pressed against my chest while I held her in my arms. The wet clothes stuck to us, but the warm air seemed to warm us quickly. My body burned even more from her touch, and I breathed in her scent deeply as I held her.
“I’m in love with you,” I said to Nora, who looked up at me and studied my face.
“I’m not lying... I’m in love with you,” I said again, and her eyebrows furrowed.
“I’m not good for you. I’m damaged, Ace,” I heard her say quietly as she looked at the floor. I lifted her chin with my fingers and looked into her teary eyes.
“I want you with all your fears... your traumas... and your past. I want everything good and accept everything bad too. I will take all your demons and make them mine. If you let me... If you want me,” I said to Nora.
I watched the tear leave her eye and roll down her cheek, but it wasn’t a tear of sadness. She smiled at me with the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen and nodded happily.
“I do... I do want you, Andrew,” she answered with a shaking voice.
“I’ve been yours since the beginning,” I answered her, and she started to cry. She held me tight and cried a mixture of laughter and tears, but the relief was clearly visible.
I tried to stay away from her for fear of intimidating her, but I can’t fight my feelings. I’m so in love with her that I would do anything to see her happy, I would damn kill for this woman.
I enjoyed her tender touch, as she caressed my face and slipped her hands into my hair, she wanted it... she wanted me. Her face lit up when I kissed her again, she was happy. I made her happy.
I made her safe, and she trusted me. That’s all I wanted. We stood hugging and swaying to the music that was playing from the barbecue party.
“Are you sure?” she asked me quietly.
“Am I sure I want you, doll?” I replied, laughing. “I’m more than sure. You’re my girl. Mine,” I said as I took her in my arms, and she wrapped her legs around me.
“I’m your girl,” she repeated as she kissed me.
When we walked back to the party, we were half-dry, but Nora’s face was burning red as the others looked at us. I took her hand, and she looked from our hands to my face.
“You’re mine, and I don’t give a damn what they think,” I said laughing.
Duke grinned at me, and Alice smiled broadly when she saw us. The others didn’t care much, so they went back to their conversations, and Nora seemed more relaxed.
“So how was the pool?” Alice asked, laughing as we approached them. I took Nora in my arms, and she buried her face in my chest and laughed, which made everyone laugh.
“Don’t make my girl blush, that’s my job,” I said cheekily and felt her grin.
“Oh, my god, I’m so happy for you,” Alice said.
“Yeah... let’s get shitfaced now, that’s a good reason for a celebration!” Duke shouted. And he was right, it was a reason to celebrate, Nora was happy, and I was the reason. That’s all I wanted, to make her happy.
