A Millionaire, His Suit And Poor Me Chapter 13
I woke up thirsty with my clothes from the night before still on me and half covered by Jace's body. A record pain made m head throb as I tried to get away from him, failing miserably because of the hangover that was starting to take its toll. “Nghrrt” Jace whispered. I laughed weakly at the inhuman sound and tapped on his stomach, to try to wake him up. “Don touch me." He growled. “Why are you in my bed?" “Alice and Aaron are in mine," he whispered, finally opening one eye. “Go back to sleep." “It's too hot with you on me.” “It's too early for compliments, Nora." “Jace, could you at least move your legs away from mine so that I can sleep?” I sighed. He emitted another animal sound, detached his legs from mine, then moved to the side of the bed. I tried once more to get out of bed, but again I failed miserably. I snuggled up to Jace, trying to get back to sleep. “Didnt you just say that you were sexy?” He said. “Yes, but I want to cuddle I explained. He smiles, his eyes still closed, turns around and makes himself comfortable. “Are you making breakfast?” “It's 8 in the morning, and I'm hungover. What do you think about it?” “I think I'm going to go warm up the remains of yesterday's Chinese. Do you want some?” He gave me a brief nod as an answer and I finally managed to get out of bed. I walked down the dark hallway hearing someone snoring from Jace’s room, assuming it was Aaron. I made coffee while warming up the leftovers, then returned to my room with a tray containing two steaming cups of coff and two bowls of fried rice and chicken. A well balanced breakfast, in my opinion. BY putting the tray on the edge of the bed, I finally managed to change out of my clothes from the day before, by putting on a T-shirt that was too big. I combed out the knots that I call my hair and went back to bed, finding Jace sitting, leaning against the headboard, holding one of the cups. I sat down next to him and took one of the bowls, turning on the TV. “I feel bad." I groaned. “Yes, when you left last night, Henris practically carried you. What happened when you came back here?” “This is so melodramatic,” I protested. “I wasn't so drunk!” Jace raised an eyebrow as if to say he didn't believe me. And he was right not to believe me. I had been more than drunk the night before. I had even initiated a kiss with Henris Steve, the scariest and most beautiful man on the planet. The young company CEO began to occupy my mind while I was absent-mindedly watching reruns of America’s Next Top Model “Will you ever answer my question?” Jace asked in an annoyed tone. “Oh, yes," I shrugged, returning to the real world. “He took me home, and we kissed. And then I was really drunk and he p me to bed. He said he would see me soon.’ “He likes you, that's for sure!” “I don't know. It's so much... formal half the time. I think it's more fair to say that he just wants to put me in his bed." “And you should be here.” “Jace!” I groaned, putting the now empty bowl on the bedside table, scowling. “I won't do it. I would try to be difficult to seduce, you know." “Oh, certainly. I can tell by that giant hickey on your neck.” He chuckled. “It is difficult to be difficult with him. Especially because he knows that he is both sexy and adorable. Its like he has thes green eyes that could cut you like a knife, and then these dimples appear and melt your heart. It's contradictory. It's frustrating.” “I guess I'll have to go out with him, then,” Jace feigned a sigh. “Dear me." jokingly, I gave him a light slap on the chest, snuggled under the covers and turned up the volume on the TV, thereby signaling that the conversation about the sexy company CEO was over. Jace grunted, but lay down with me. We spent the rest of the day in a state of hangover, watching an entire season of America’s Next Top Model. Aaron and Al came to my room around noon, thanking us for our hospitality, and then left. We swept the Chinese for lunch and at dinn time, Jace worked hard enough to make us a simple Mac and Cheese. “How come we're not fat?” I joked when I took a bite of the cheese delight, still in bed. He motioned for me to move and I did so, giving him room to sit next to me, in the same seat he had occupied all day. “I don't know. We should probably try to eat healthy or something” “We will never do that." “I know," he said, laughing. “Anyway, what did you mean by yesterday's message? The only thing I could figure out was something about Henris and a suit” I had to try to hold back my laughter as I tried to explain, remembering how I had thought of Jace in Henris’s clothes. I we imagining what it would be like if you put on Henris's costumes. I haven't got a clue. In my state, it seemed hilarious." He shook his head slightly. You're completely out west, Noras. Although, I would love to try on some of your clothes. But I think it would kill me before it happened.” Monday morning, Jace and 1 finally got drunk and we got up early to arrive on time at work. At 8 o'clock, the usual knock ¢ my door arrived and 1 got out of bed, going to the shower. I dried my hair and put on my makeup, putting on a comfortable white dress and my favorite black shoes. I came out of n room at 9 o'clock screaming and asking Jace if he knew where my Louis Vuitton bag was. “Near the sofa in the living room!” He said from the kitchen. Thanking him, I entered the room, seeing the black bag. I picked it up triumphantly and when I wanted to turn around, I noticed that Henris's jacket was leaning against the back of the sofa, where he had left it two nights before. Laughing, I picked it up and carried it to the kitchen. “Jace, look what he forgot!” I said cheerfully. He turned around with two steaming cups of coffee in his hand and a smile at the sight of the jacket. “Shut up. Let me try on.’ We had a stupid laugh when he put it on. The too long sleeves completely covered the little man. He walked across the kitchen keeping his shoulders straight and looking at me. “Are you pretending to be Henris?” I laughed, putting a hand in front of my mouth. “Don’t make fun of me. Bring me a coffee." Jace ordered in a lower voice than usual. I spat my coffee on the kitchen count much to Jace’s delight. “Some of them ended up on the sleeve of my jacket.” He complained, showing it to me. “Your jacket?” 1 joked. “I'l bring him back today.” He opened his eyes wide when he took it off. “Do you see him yet?” “I will only stop by your office during my lunch break” “Stalker.'Jace teased me. I slapped his head laughing. We took our respective mugs and our cereal bars on the way out of the apartment. The heels of my shoes were clicking as we descended the stairs and walked through the busy streets of N York. We walked arm in arm, drinking our coffees and eating our bars. Finally, we were able to see the building in front of us. W threw our garbage on the way in. I found my office warm and welcoming, I threw my bag on the desk and I collapsed on chair. My e-mail was full of new messages and I looked at them quickly. We were supposed to have a meeting, which I had obviously forgotten about, at 11 o'clock. Jace showed up in my office as usual and informed me ten minutes early. The meeting lasted longer than it should have, with Victoria rejecting everyone's ideas until she found the “perfect” idea. Finally, Aaron proposed a section about a famous person from New York and accepted it. “The longest meeting ever,” I grumbled as I walked out, looking at the time on my gold Micheal Kors watch. “Should I text Henris to tell him I'm bringing him his jacket?” “Definitely. You can't arrive without warning." remarked Jace. He kissed me on the cheek and waved his hand at me as he parted, me walking towards Henris' office with his Gucci jacket in his arms and Jace towards the dining room with Aaron. “Good luck with your psychotic boss!” He shouted, turning around. “It's not mine!’l answered. Victoria gave me a look and 1 left quickly with a smirk. After a short walk, I arrived at Steve Enterprises once again. I waited outside the building for a few minutes until I found enough courage to enter, which I did. The blonde receptionist looked at me with a confused look, but I passed her with a wave of my hand. People were getting in and out of the elevator as I slowly made my way to the top floor. The receptionist last time seeme: completely shocked to see me. She probably thought she would never see me again after running away from the office la time. “Um, I have Mr. Steve's jacket,” I mumbled, showing it to him. “I must give it back to him." His chin hit the ground but he quickly recomposed. “Mr. Steve is in a meeting. He's very busy today.” “Oh. Well, I'll leave it here for him. Can you tell him that he left it at my house?” “Of course,” he smiles with mock enthusiasm and a curious look. “Was Mr. Steve at your house?” “Not that it's any of your business, but yes." I whispered. “You must have really impressed him during your first interview. Now, unless you have something else to do here, you cai leave.” He said nicely. Suspicious, I turned around, heading for the elevator. I played with the rings on my fingers while waiting for the elevator, I raised my head at the sound of Henris’ low voice in t corridor. I felt my heart racing. The images of his lips fiercely pressed against mine flashed through my mind as I heard hi scolding someone in his formal tone, making me smile like an idiot. I finally dared to look and slightly raised my head. He was wearing dark gray pants and a white shirt. With his hair touslec he adjusts his tie with one hand while holding the phone with the other, his beautiful face deforms into an expression of anger. He looked perfect and powerful, as usual. While 1 was wondering why he was talking on the phone in front of his office, a blonde woman, whom I recognized as Car: opened the door and came out into the hallway, approaching him and straightening her dress. Her hair was also disheveled. Post-sex hair, I realized. He glared at her, pointing to her desk, indicating for her to return. She replied by saying something that I could not understand. He covered the microphone of his iPhone, with the same look, and pressed it aggressively against the wall. I saw an amused smile on her face as she nodded, freeing herself and walking back into the office. He winked at her, returning to his phone call, wiping all traces of emotion from his face, the moment she left. The elevator rang and I climbed up quickly, leaning on the railing. I don't know why I thought he might really like me. I ha forgotten that he was a businessman who put pleasure above all else. I found out about it the moment I read about his reputation while doing research for the interview. “Fucking idiot’I was whispering to myself as I walked, nervously playing with my gold necklace. I had made the mistake of letting his charm win me over, exactly as he expected. As much as I wanted to go up to him an slap him for making me walk, 1 also wanted to jump on him, my legs around his waist and feel his lips caress mine. I woul have liked to have seen him smile, to show his dimples. I wanted the nice side of Henris. The part that I had seen on rare occasions but which I immediately became infatuated with. The part that wasn't really Henris. I should have remembered that he was Mr. Steve, a company CEO and a millionair Trembling, I left the building, took my phone and deleted his number, so as not to text him while intoxicated. Drunk Nora would do that. I decided not to sink further into the pit that was Henris Steve, knowing that I would only come out of it with a broken heart.
