Chapter 16
They both stared at each other, too proud to look away. And each had his own reasons. “Where do you come from? Why did you come to this village? Everyone knows that Coloma is a quiet place. -1 don't come from anywhere. You'd better cooperate with me, if you really want to leave here. “When I get the money I spend on my medical care, I'll give it all back to you, and I'll get the hell out of here. You don't need to know anything more about me, Mr. Wesley. -And how do you intend to leave? A horse costs a lot, miss. Are you trying to steal another one? -Don’t provoke me, Mr Wesley. Rouse says in complete irritation, the blonde takes a step closer to him, and by this time, there was no more space between them. Or what, Miss LeRoy," he replies with an emphatic warning in his voice. The blonde couldn't tolerate him talking to her that way, as if she didn’t know how to defend herself against a guy as arrogant as him. Even though she was badly hurt, it didn't stop her from putting the sheriff in his place. I don't intend to play his game, so I'm asking him to open that door and let me out. No, not until you answer me, or are you afraid? You're afraid to see yourself exposed to me, to know that I've been right. along, that you're just a common outlaw who came to this town because one of your robberies must have gone wrong. No more, as he finished saying the last word, Tom's cheek took the impact of what amounted to a slap that made him tur his face a little. The sheriff's eyes widened as he realised that the woman's hand was rather heavy for that of a mere lady Immediately, he softens his cheek as he glares defiantly at Rouse. And in a split second, the blonde grabs his arm and tur him around, applying a headlock. Despite her small stature and strength, she had caught the sheriff off guard, then reached into her pocket and got the keys to the room. it was all happening so fast, he didn't have time for the man to think about anything, or at least react. Surely, she was the first woman to disarm him like that. By the time Tom reacted to the attack, he pulled his body back, and with it pushed Rouse's body back a few inches. The woman did not fall to the ground, but she did lose her balance a little. Nevertheless, she ran to the door and managed to insert the key, but Tom's monumental hand hit the wood, which made her startle. You're very quick, and very clever. 1 told you not to mess with me, Mr. Wesley. I didn't do anything to you. You have, you've hit an officer for the second time, and that warrants putting you in prison. “Then do it," she challenges him. Seeing Tom's hesitation, she tries to open the door, but he bangs on the wood again, making it impossible for her to escape. He wasn't going to let her out just like that, and the simple fact that she had attacked him a moment ago, took away her strength and added more pain to her body. He was too strong for her, no matter how hard she tried, a simple blow from him wouldn't knock him out. “Where did you come from? Answer my questions, and let's get this over with once and for all” he asks leaning towards h with an enraged look in his eyes. “I won't say a word to her” she sharpens her gaze. Tom is about to speak, when suddenly Hilary's voice comes from outside. Sheriff, is everything all right in there? Has my daughter run the bath for you? Do you need me to help you with anything Rouse looked at the door with parted lips, then glanced at Tom, who wasn't taking his eyes off her. He was silent, which meant that he didnt intend to let his darling know that they were alone in a room. This was his chance to get out of that room, no matter if he was out of a job. At least she wouldn't have to attend to that idiot, who only succeeded in irritating her. Rouse makes an attempt to speak, but Tom discovers her intentions and covers her mouth with his huge hand. He slams his body against the door and presses his entire male institution against the blonde's frail body. He wraps his arm around Rouse's waist as if it were a padlock, holding her in place with no chance of another of those lo blows he used to deliver. She widens her eyes and shakes her head in an attempt to free herself tries to scream and give him away, but Tom was exerting more force with his hand. -I'm fine, Miss Miller, don't worry. Go get some rest. Are you sure? -The woman insists doubtfully. I can... -No, you can go. Rouse sharpens his gaze, he was a bastard. He'd kicked the mistress out, because he already had his room full of her. But he didn't think he was going to get away with it, that sheriff. -But Tom didn’t answer him, just stared into Rouse’s eyes. -Now we can talk without being disturbed, Miss LeRoy,” Rouse looks at Tom with irritation, it was unbelievable that he wa doing that to her. suddenly he loosens the pressure on her hand and ends up releasing her lips, but not her body. And that's what she was waiting for, but it didn't happen. “Why didn't he want to attend to Hilary? She seemed pretty needy to help him," the sheriff picked up on her double- entendre comment right away, but decided to ignore her. “Why don't you just tell me who the hell you are, so we can get the hell out of this. I swear you look like a goddamn rock i my boot, annoying and annoying. simply because I don't feel like saying anything to a man who treats me like I'm a thief, or worse, a slut. She was very stubborn, and neither by hook or by crook would she say anything at all to him. Let me go, sheriff. Besides, I think you've got better things to do with that woman out there,” he added. -Do you think you can persuade me with that? I'm just following the truth. While Rouse kept Tom amused; nimbly and subtly as he could, he steered his hand towards the sheriff's revolver. If he could get hold of it, he could at least get it out of his hand. Besides, the position they were in was very intimate and improper. And it didn’t seem to him that either of them were so close together, being absolutely nothing... by the time he reached to touch the end of the revolver, he gripped it tightly, letting Tom know that he had got hold of his pistol. Automatically, the sheriff stepped back, then made sure his revolver was still in the same place. He looks up and sees Rouse open the door, instinct leads him to grab her by the skirt and pull her back quite forcefully, but in doing so, the blonde ends up falling into the bathtub. Tom closes the door, as he watches her come out of the tub dripping... He's a bloody wretch, a brute, an animal who has no manners at all for a lady. The blonde lunges at Tom like an out-of-control cow, the sheriff reacts quickly and grabs her by the wrists. But that didn’ stop Rouse from jerking hard enough to get one hand free, and with that, she punched Tom's face. A thin trickle of blood ran from Tom's nostril, and Rouse took a step back as she felt Tom let go of her completely. The blonde's breathing was steady, she was upset, wet, humiliated, sore and very annoyed. Tom runs two fingers across his lips to wipe away the liquid he felt running down them, and then watches blood slide do his fingers, then looks up and sees the blonde all helpless... she had hit him so hard she had broken his nose. And yet, sh didn't let her guard down, she kept facing him. He was annoyed, however, that woman produced a strange sensation inside him that he still couldn't understand. The strength and vitality she possessed attracted his attention. The reason was simple, he had never encountered a woman like Rouse. Defiant, arrogant and not at all submissive. She w a curious woman... He stared into her eyes, held them wide open, then lowered his gaze to her lips. They were half-open due to the fatigue she was experiencing. Letting his wild and unreasonable side take control of his actions, the sheriff approached the blonde in a single step. He grabbed her waist, then with his hand, grabbed her chin and ended up bringing his mouth to hers in a fierce, possessive and unsubtle manner. Tom tasted the woman's bitterness firsthand, but curiously, he also experienced a hint of sweetness in that impetuous ki Rouse didn't even resist, but rather seemed to be paralysed by the theft. In those moments of tasting the blonde’s lips, Tom compared Rouse to the fruit that grew on desert cacti. Sweet and very tasty on the inside, but on the outside it was full of dangerous thorns, which if you didn't pick them out carefully could g very wrong.
