Chapter 77
Chapter 77
Matilda strode into the CEO’s office and placed her resignation letter on Declan’s desk. Beside her, Chloe’s face registered shock, “Matilda, you…”
“Mr. Yeager, I appreciate everything you’ve done for me, but I can’t be the one to bring trouble to your door. Staying on in your company will only cause problems. So, I’m handing in my resignation directly. Thank you for all the help, both from you and Chloe.”
With those words, Matilda walked out, closing the door behind her and cutting off Chloe’s view.
Declan, however, looked impressed, “Your friend’s got some serious backbone.”
Chloe’s eyes welled up with tears, “Yeah, she’s always been too proud for her own good.*
Matilda did indeed have a strong spirit and a clear sense of right and wrong. Wiping away a tear, Chloe felt an ache for her friend. Yvan pushing Matilda to this point, would he really never regret it?
Matilda quickly returned to her apartment, only to find Gideon waiting anxiously in the living room. Her coming back during the day meant something had gone wrong at work, so he stepped over and asked, “Matilda, you…”
“I’m fine,” her voice detached as she looked down, “They just want to break me.”
Gideon looked at her with a pained expression. This business trip had indeed gone ahead without the approval of the other party, and now they were completely blacklisted, all thanks to Yvan.
After packing some things, Matilda turned to Gideon, “I quit my job at the Yeager Group. I can’t make things difficult for Chloe and Mr. Yeager anymore. I’ve got some free time during the day anyway, so I’m going to visit Logan.”
Gideon’s brow furrowed at the words, “But isn’t he at…the Boyd Mansion?”
Matilda’s eyelashes fluttered with a hint of fear, but for her son, she’d endure anything. She grabbed some of Logan’s favorite snacks and books he enjoyed and headed out.
Gideon caught up, taking the bag from her hands. “Let me drive you.”

“Gideon,” Matilda flicked a resigned look at him, “Okay, you can take me, but don’t make a scene.”
Gideon clenched his jaw, “I’ll hold back from punching that jerk!”
Having a brother like Gideon made Matilda feel like there was still some care and warmth in this harsh world. Without anything else, she still had Gideon and Logan by her side.
But Matilda never considered what she would do if one day something happened to the people around her and she was left with nowhere to turn.
When Gideon dropped Matilda off at the Boyd Mansion, the gatekeeper and the maids, already aware of who she was, stepped aside to let her through.
Matilda thanked them gracefully, leaving the maids who had once given her a hard time blushing and bowing their heads in embarrassment.
Logan, who was reading comics in the living room, heard someone at the door and turned to see Matilda. He ran to her with a smile, “Mommy! You’re here again!”
Matilda smoothed her hair back, “Why are you home alone?”
Gideon peeked out from behind her, “What, Logan, aren’t you happy to see your uncle?”
Logan, thrilled, darted back and forth between Matilda and Gideon, “I’ve missed Uncle Gideon too!”
Gideon patted his head, “Is Yvan not home today?”
“He’s at work during the day,” Logan began, but was interrupted by a voice from upstairs.
It was Violet, who had been away on a trip. As she came down the stairs, her expression changed at the sight of Matilda and Gideon. It took her a moment to softly call out, “Mat.”
