Chapter 9
Lizzy’s POV
Sif was happy to distract the two guards so I could make us some breakfast in peace. She was lying on the island counter, doing her thing, and like to idiots, my guards were almost fighting for her attention. I grinned. So much for werewolf macho-men. Hand them a baby, and they’re like mush!
I sat two plates in front of them, and took Sif off the table, so they could eat while I fed her.
“This is amazing,” Kevin exclaimed, with his mouth full. I shrugged. No surprise really. At home the men learned how to kill monsters while women cooked, cleaned, washed and folded cloths AND learned how to kill monsters. Multitasking had been my thing ever since I was old enough to walk.
“How old are you?”
“How old do you want me to be?” I shot back, mentally laughing when I saw the horrid expression on their faces. Kevin dropping his fork and Jack his jaw.
“Sorry, force of habit,” I played on, on a serious note, enjoying teasing the two huge worries.
“Don’t even---!” Kevin muttered, having a hard time swallowing his breakfast.
“That’s disgusting!” Jack exclaimed his face in utter shock.
I shrugged, while mentally having a stomach cramps from laughing.
“Hey, they didn’t like my old job!” I continued to teas them looking at Sif. “What do we say about that, ha Sif?”
“Just stop already!” Kevin begged, trying to gulp down water, to get his food down.
“What’s going on here?” Derik’s familiar voice suddenly sounded at the door. He walked over to the fridge, alternatively eyeing me and the guards, before taking out a water bottle.
“Kevin and Jack didn’t like my old job,” I quickly answered, grinning at his confused expression.
“She’s just being a brat!”, Jack scoffed, picking up his fork and trying to shuffle the res of the food into his mouth.
“No, I was a prostitute,” Is not back. And with that, Derik turned into a water fountain.
“A what now?!” He coughed, water running down his mouth and all over his shirt.
“Do you know who much money you can make like that?” I asked, praising myself for my well-trained poker-face. Years and years of lying to my dad could do that to you.
“I’m gonna be sick,” Kevin said, visibly white as a sheet.
“What?” I continued innocently. “Big bad wolf can’t stomach some underaged sex? I thought you didn’t care about that. You know, since you don’t care about the age of your mates!”
“That’s different!” All men in the room hollered in union.
And I couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“You should have seen your faces!” I laughed, getting moral lectures left and right from the men. None that I really cared about, but they all looked like they were ready to murder me.
“How old are you?” Derik asked, when they finally calmed down again.
“I’m 14,” I answered this time honestly.
“14?!” he exclaimed surprised. “Doc estimated 16.”
“I’ve always looked older,” I shrugged, just as Sif barfed her breakfast all over me again. I sighed; I loved this girl, but damn! She had something against me being clean! “Not that is does me any favors. Hold her! I need to change.”
I dried her up and handed her over to Derik, who took her without a word. I hurried upstairs and shifted into one of the T-shirts that I’d been given from some of the females in the pack. Most of it was workout cloths and one-size sports bra’s, but it worked.
I washed up and hurried downstairs; only to catch all three men, lying on the floor, playing with Sif and talking complete gibberish. Love and admiration shimmering in their eyes like they were cartoon figures.
“Damn,” I said, laughing my ass off. “You guys are totally whipped by that baby!”
They all jumped up in one move, trying to play it off and act total macho. And I just laughed and laughed…
