Chapter 47
Cameron
I had decided to just go with the flow when it came to the werewolf and my mate. What would I care if I had to share my mate? Sirens did that all the time. I knew it would be an adjustment for Knox since werewolves were known to be possessive, but I was shocked that Navy was taking it so hard. She was as used to the idea of having more than one mate as I was.
But, my mate was stubborn, of that I knew all too well. She had to make up her own mind and the only thing she knew for sure was that Knox was her mate. She felt a connection, a bond with him, that we didn’t have yet. At least, she didn’t feel it yet. I felt it from the moment I first saw her, even before I turned 18. I’ve always known that Navy was my mate.
When I turned 18, I knew that she was mine without a doubt. But, I was afraid of spooking her, of screwing it up, so I waited. Even after she turned 18 and felt the bond for herself, I held out. I waited to long and then she left. I thought she would feel the pull and come back to me, but the next thing I knew, Queen Isla came home and told me that Navy wanted to reject me for her werewolf.
Fueled by my rage, I stormed the packhouse and reacted impulsively. I nearly died when Navy wanted to reject me right there on the spot. I knew Knox hated me just as much as I hated him. Then, something changed when Navy’s safety was in question. It was like we both realized we wanted the same things: Navy’s happiness and safety. It was like a switch went off with both of us and suddenly we were a team. I only hoped that Navy could open her mind and heart to us.
Knox and I had paused the packhouse tour to talk for a bit in the Luna’s quarters. We were discussing what my life might be like here if Navy wanted me to stay, both in the long and the short term. That’s when the door flung open and our beautiful mate was standing there wearing a determined expression I had seen a million times before.
“Alright, let’s do this thing.” She announced, startling us both. I looked over at Knox who looked down at me with an amused look.
“What’s that, baby?” Knox asked, standing up from the sofa.
“I’m ready to give it a shot.” She said, walking across the room. I was surprised how it didn’t even bother me when she went straight for his arms. It was like something inside me knew not to be jealous of him.
“Give this a shot?” Knox asked, motioning between the three of us. He snaked his hand around her waist as she nodded. Her bright, blue eyes blinked over at me,
“Yes.” She said her voice was quiet and sweet.
“I’m happy to hear that, angel.” I smiled, holding my hand out towards her. She eyed me cautiously then looked up at Knox. Knox nodded encouragingly and gave her a little nudge. She took my hand and allowed me to pull her close to my side.
“Are you sure about this?” I asked her softly, turning her in my arms so she was facing me. I cupped her face in my hand, raising my eyes in question. She didn’t pull away, her lips turning up into a gentle smile,
“Yes, I’m sure, Cam.” I didn’t know when she started saying my name like that, but it was amazing. It did something to me that was unexplainable.
“Okay.” I tucked a lose strand of hair behind her ear and watched the emotions play across her face.
“Navy,” Knox called her attention to him. She craned her neck to meet his gaze but didn’t move out of my grip,
“I invited Cameron to stay here in your old room.” He said. Navy’s eyes snapped back to mine,
“Really?” She said in surprise.
“If it’s okay with you, of course.” I added. Navy bit her bottom lip, something she’s been doing since she was a small child. It only recently started driving me crazy.
“I think that would be okay.” She nodded slowly.
“It would give all of us a chance to get comfortable with each other.” I explained,
“You would still stay with Knox.”
“Yes, it’s okay.” Navy nodded again, more sure of herself this time.
“I have some work to finish up.” Knox said, walking up behind our mate. Navy shifted in my arms, but I still left one hand on her waist.
She turned to face Knox and his hands went to her face. He knelt down and nuzzled his nose against hers before pulling her close for a kiss. She was breathless when they broke apart and she looked back at me. She was searching my face, like she was trying to judge my reaction. I just smiled at her and rubbed my thumb over her hip in a small circle.
“I’ll see you tonight, baby.” Knox kissed her cheek one more time before leaving.
“You’re sure that you want to stay here?” Navy asked, her eyes never leaving my face as Knox left the room. I felt a surge of pride at securing my mates attention.
“I want to be wherever you are.” I shrugged.
“Are you sure this is enough for you, Cam?” She sighed, seeming frustrated with herself.
“You’re everything to me, Navy.” My voice became deep and husky as I dipped my head down to meet her gaze.
“Sometimes I wonder if it would be easier if we had not been friends our whole lives.” She said in a small voice.
“Being friends isn’t a disadvantage, angel, it means that we know each other. If I didn’t know you so well, I might have been concerned when you ran away from me. Instead, I knew your stubborn butt would come back to us eventually.” I smirked at her. She playfully punched my chest,
“Jerk.” She grumbled.
“Yeah but I’m your jerk.” I decided to take a chance by showing Navy my affection.
With both my hands on her hips, I walked towards her. She stumbled backwards until her back was up against the wall.
“C…Cam?” Her voice caught in her throat as I moved closer to her. I placed my hand on the wall right next to her head and leaned in,
“What’s wrong, angel?’ I purred, my nose brushing against her cheek.
“You’re so c…close.” She licked her lips as her eyes glazed over me. I felt her tremble but I knew she wasn’t afraid, I could sense her emotions.
“Don’t you want me this close?” I asked, eyeing her mouth,
“I’ll go if you want.” I said. She shook her head slowly as her hands hesitantly rested against my chest.
“I can hear what my closeness is doing to you, angel. Your heart is beating so quickly.” I said, causing a crimson blush to cover her face.
“Cam?” She whispered.
“Hmm?” I hummed, enjoying how close our bodies were. I felt her skin warming up and I pulled my eyes back slightly to look into hers. They were electric with an unnamed emotion.
“What do you want, angel? You have to say it.” I said, pressing my forehead against hers.
