Chapter 8
After dinner Harrison went up to my room to talk.
“Where should I begin?” He sighed.
“Maybe start by saying who attacked?” I suggested.
“Well I guess I can start there.” He paused. “Well the vampires attacked, if you noticed they looked pretty human. In the Otherside there are many different races. There are: vampires, werewolves, shape shifters, wizards and witches, ogres, pixies, elves, demons and many of the other creatures you may remember from those “fake” fairy tale stories I told you in your fake memories.”
I was a bit confused. “But why did the vampires attack?”
He put a finger over my mouth. “I’m getting to that. All the races lived under your father’s rule and a lot of people were unhappy with your father’s ruling. The vampires were technically an outside group with some of the werewolves, and a few a-wall demons. They left the kingdom a few years after you were born. I’m guessing they have been planning to attack for a while.” I was feeling a little sad, it reminded me of my father getting stabbed and I guess it showed on my face. “It’s okay.” He hugged me. “Let me tell you something funny. You remember that alien paper you wrote about?”
I looked at him confused. “Uh... yes.” Trying to figure out what he was getting at.
“All of those alien stories are created by the shape shifters. They like screwing with people’s heads.” He paused. “Well that and to do research on them. They shift into alien like creatures and use flight tech they created back home on the Otherside.” I had to think about that for a moment, but thinking about it, it made perfect sense. “Yeah the government knows that the shape shifters causing those incidents aren’t aliens. They actually know about all of the creatures on the Otherside that travel over and screw with humans. They try to cover it up and are trying to figure out how to get to the Otherside still, but our psychics know that will never happen.” he chuckled and then looked in my eyes trying to make sure I was okay. I was having a little trouble grasping it all. “I’m sorry, a weak attempt to cheer you up and I’m not really making any sense to you.”
I put my hand on his shoulder. “It’s fine. It will take time, but I will catch on.” I paused. “But can you tell me why my father was not liked?”
Harrison looked down and then back up at me like he was afraid to say. “I tried to warn him, the more he restricted people they harder things will get. Everyone was suffering to make a living, very few were getting by...” I started feeling weird, while he went on to explain. Next thing I knew I was in a memory again.
I was talking to Jason outside by a lake. We were talking about our future. “When I get in charge, maybe we can finally be together.”
He put his hand on my cheek. “Even then my love, I don’t think the fates will shine too bright on our marriage. Most do not approve of our class difference. I’m a mixed race, you are not.”
I stared into his eyes “You my dear are not a psychic; you are my sweet wizardy-wolf.” I smiled
“And I will never let you go.” He kissed me softly and suddenly we were interrupted by guards. They grabbed us by our arms and took us into the throne room in front of my father.
“You have disgraced me, Jamie.”
I was so mad by his words. “You have disgraced me, father.” I ripped my hands out of the guard’s hands. “You are hurting your own people, including me!” I cried out.
My father slapped me across the face. “You need to relearn your manners.” He must have hit me with magic because I hit a wall. “Kill the mutt!” He ordered angered. A guard pulled out a knife with wolfs bane on it, two others forced him to his knees.
“NOOOOooo!” I cried. When guard was about to stab him in the stomach I muttered a spell and got in the way. The knife went through my stomach. Tears were streaming down my face.
My father sighed. “Jason, you have been reassigned. You are watching the portal to the Otherside.” I slowly was blacking out with those words.
At first I thought I was waking up into the real world but I was waking up in my dream. Jason was there in my room. “Jamie, I’m sorry.” He stroked my hair. “I-I have been reassigned.”
I sighed. “I know, and I promise you, there will be a change when I get in charge. I will never be like my father and I will fix things like classes and people struggling to get by. I promise you.” I sounded very weak.
He kissed me softly on the lips. “You should rest, you need to finish healing.” He sounded as if he wrote off what I said.
“I am serious, Jason.” He knelt down next to me.
“And so am I.” He passed me a note and kissed me softly on the lips and then left. “I’m not allowed to see you again. So I have to go.” He walked away. The note said: “Meet me tomorrow at noon by our tree.”
I woke up for real this time and Jason was there sitting near my bed in my room. Harrison must have left. “W-where is Harrison?” I asked puzzled and a little confused as to why he is here and not Harrison.
“I heard the fall and by the time I got up here Harrison had tucked you into bed.” I looked confused and my question of why are you here still was written on my face. I heard him sigh. “I was just making sure you were okay.” He got up. “I will leave if you like.” I felt bad like I was hurting his feelings.
“No, y-you can stay if you like.” I sat up. “I’m sorry, I wish I could remember things. You and me, I mean.” I looked down. “I saw how we began meeting in private and how you almost died.”
Jason knelt down by my bed and grabbed my hands and pulled them towards him. “You will never be hurt because of me again, I promise.” He had concern in his eyes.
“Jason, it’s fine. I just...” I paused. “remember the promise? The promise I made when I woke up?” I could tell Jason remembered by the look in his eyes. “I will take back my kingdom and when I do, I will fix things. We will be together in the end unless you do not want us to.” He looked shocked in my last statement at first and then he moved his hands to the sides of my face and pulled me in and kissed me passionately. My heart was racing
“I will be behind you in all that you do my love.” He got up “You should get some sleep. Goodnight my love.”
He began to walk away when I grabbed his hand. “D-don’t go.” I felt my face was turning red. He turned back my way and saw my face. He crawled in bed next to me and pulled me in his arms.
“Do you remember me?”
I sighed. “Not completely, but if I was willing to risk my life for you.” I paused. “I know I must have loved you enough and I would be a fool to make you wait and lose you.” I snuggled up to the side of his chest better and got comfy and slowly fell asleep in his arms.
