The Otherside: Alice: Tough Decisions (Book 6)

Chapter 15

After Trey and Ace left, Captain Jay held the compass up by the strap and dangled it in front of me.

“Want to talk about it?” she said with a smirk.

“Not really.” I said sheepishly.

“You’re blushing! So cute! Please tell me about this little triangle and with twins.” I looked down to avoid her enthusiastic gaze and shook my head. “Oh, come on! You think I get good conversation with the three bozos that I had to hang around the past year?”

“I-I don’t really know what to say about it.”

“Well you can start with information on Trey.”

“Well it’s very complicated. We were childhood friends, then one day we stopped seeing each other before this past year he has been trying to kill me, but yeah, I found out he l-lo... likes me, but pushes me towards Ace.”

“So then why aren’t you with Ace then?”

“He won’t admit it to my face. I remembered the night we shared on the ship later.”

“Oh, I was hoping so.”

“But... he didn’t tell me. Did he regret it? He hasn’t told me his feelings since.”

“What happened to the Duncan boy?”

“I left him. Trey helped me to see him for his cheating ways and Ace helped me realized what he really loved... which is not me.”

“Okay... so why are you split on them both?”

I sighed. “I am torn between a boy I have known all my life, who has protected me and cared for me, but won’t share his feelings. And a boy who I haven’t known as long, but has frustrating dug his way into my heart and swept me off my feet, but he believes I deserve better. I just...”

“I see your conundrum. I probably would keep them both, but I am a greedy pirate.” she said with a wink trying to cheer me up.

“I know. I-I am going to go and clear my head.” I got up and left.

I walked out of her quarters and went to the railing. I leaned on it and watched the sunset. After a while, I felt a tap on my shoulder; it was Ace.

“You okay?” He asked concerned.

“I’m fine. Just taking in the view.” he saw through my lie, but he guessed the subject wrong.

“I’m sorry about Duncan. I never had the chance to talk to you about it.” The truth was I never fully explained it to either Trey or him.

“No you’re not.”

“Okay, I am only partially sorry because you deserve better than him. Guys would kill to be with you.”

“No they wouldn’t.”

“Back home they would.” he said with a smirk.

“Look, just because I am not with Duncan, doesn’t mean I am coming home for sure. It’s still a choice I have to make. Things are not black and white.”

“But you have a king-...” I put a finger to his lips and cut him off.

“I have not chosen that.” I ended the conversation and walked away. I went down below and read the book Jay gave me to read by candle light.
