Chapter 2256
Arnold had been trying his best to hold back his emotions, but the moment he heard Asher's voice, he burst into tears. "I can't take it anymore... I feel so bad for Bella!"
"Sweetheart, don't cry." Asher quickly comforted him, his voice raspy with emotion. "I know you care about Bella. We all do. But don't worry, she had an acute stomach bleed, and now she's awake. The doctor said it was caused by excessive grief, overdrinking, and irregular eating. Besides, Bella already had stomach problems from her days in the field, treating patients under extreme conditions, barely able to eat properly."
Arnold looked shocked. "Bella was on the battlefield?!"
"During the war in Kridor, she served as a volunteer doctor, helping countless civilians and soldiers from the peacekeeping forces." Asher's tone softened with a mix of pride and sorrow as he mentioned it. "My God... Everyone in your family has a big heart! Kridor was not only at war but was running rampant with terrorists looting and killing. Bella was just a girl, and she went into such dangerous conditions. How could you let her go?!"
Asher was silent for a moment, then took a deep breath, his voice trembling slightly. "We didn't want her to go, but she was determined to follow Justin. Wherever he went, she would go. None of us could stop her."
Arnold's mind buzzed, and he was taken aback. "Bella went through all that for Justin?!"
"Justin used to be a soldier with the peacekeeping forces and was deployed to Kridor for a crucial mission," Asher said, his voice tight. "Bella only applied to go to Kridor because she wanted to see him. She almost didn't make it back..."
"Justin? He doesn't deserve Bella's love!" Arnold's eyes were bloodshot. He slammed his fist on the balcony railing. "After he woke up, he turned into a complete scumbag! He's been getting cozy with that female doctor who works with Grant, and I caught them myself. I slapped that bastard and told him he was worthless. He even had the nerve to say he already broke up with Bella!"
Tears welled up again as he sobbed. "Asher, honestly... Justin might as well have stayed dead!"
"Arnold..."
"Bella watches him from afar, but he pushes her away and gets close to another woman instead... Asher, who could handle that kind of fall? regret saving him! I should have just drugged him and left him in a coma. It would've been better than this!"
"Arnold, don't forget, Justin became like this for Bella," Asher said, his breathing heavy. "Fate is beyond our control. If they're meant to be, Justin will rediscover his love for her. If not, then this might be the best
over
outcome. As long as everyone is safe and healthy, that's what
matters."
Arnold wiped his tears with a handkerchief. "Once I finish up, I'll go visit Bella at the hospital."
"It's okay. You can wait a couple of days. Bella is still weak and needs her rest."
"Asher, don't forget, your birthday is the day after tomorrow." Arnold sniffled, glancing at the wedding ring on his finger, a smile spreading
across his face. "You know mine
not as clever as you at planning surprises. Just tell me what you want..."
Asher let out a low chuckle. "Then, don't work overtime the day after tomorrow."
Arnold blinked. "That's all?"
The man's voice grew huskier. "And then wash up and wait for me."
"Damn it, I knew it! You old pervert!" Arnold playfully scolded, his cheeks flushed, but his heart was already with him.
...
As the sun set, a red glow spread across the sky, and Clarice drove toward Tideview Manor.
