Chapter 1199
She thought Josephine would be angry. However, Josephine merely hugged her knees and sighed. “Even you can tell. My father said the same thing. But I truly like him. I’ve never liked anyone this much in my entire life.”
Josie also sighed inwardly.
“When I first met him, I was in the midst of escaping from a blind date and was being pursued relentlessly. It was he who stumbled upon me and rescued me. Hey, do you believe in love at first sight? I think what I’ve been searching for is a man like him, full of raw masculinity. No matter what he does, I can accept it.”
This woman is brave and devoted. Yet, when these two traits combine, it is bound to result in tragedy. Josie could easily guess that Arnold deliberately set this up so that Josephine could get closer to him.
There wasn’t a shred of spontaneity in it.
Finally, she lifted her gaze to meet Josephine’s. The latter had already snapped back to reality and was about to continue eating when she noticed Josie’s delicate hand. Josephine was momentarily stunned. “This-” It’s clearly not a man’s hand.
Josie reacted even quicker than Josephine. In an instant, she pulled out another gun from her waist and aimed it at Josephine’s head. Her gaze hardened in a split second. “Ms. Yowell, come down yourself. Bullets aren’t discerning. I don’t think you have the courage to jump into the sea, right?”
Josephine stared at Josie in even greater astonishment. “Your voice. You’re…”
Josie directly removed her face mask, revealing her bare face. “We’ve met before.”
“It’s you!” Josephine covered her mouth, about to scream for help. Josie swiftly pulled Josephine down from the window, restraining the latter with one hand. “Quiet!”
Having cared for a child for over a year, her strength was naturally much greater than that of a delicate daughter of an elite family like Josephine. Josephine simply couldn’t break free.
“What are you trying to do? The streets are swarming with Robyn’s men. You’ll be killed the moment you step outside!”
“I’ll surely die if I go out there alone, but with you, it’s a different story,” Josie said, leading Josephine step by step toward the outside. “Have them open the door.”
“I won’t surrender to you. I knew it. You’re not an assistant at all!”
“Of course, I’m not his assistant. Ms. Yowell, I advise you to keep your distance from him. Don’t risk your future for him. Make sure you remember my words of wisdom.” Josie stood firm at the doorway, repeating her command, “I said, have them open the door!”
Josephine couldn’t bear to hear that advice from Josie, someone Josephine figured was pretending to have experienced what she was undergoing. She gritted her teeth. “Who do you think you are? Do you really think you understand so well?”
From outside, the sound of an argument could be heard. Someone attempted to knock on the door. “Ms. Yowell, what’s wrong? Do you need any help?”
Josie stared at Josephine.
Left with no other choice, Josephine managed to squeeze out a response. “Open the door.”
The other party outside the door was confused. Still, after a moment of hesitation, the door was opened. The people outside were fully armed, but upon seeing Josie holding Josephine hostage, they were all stunned. “You!”
Several guns were pointed at Josie.
Josie pointed her gun at Josephine’s temple. “Think carefully. Is it worth trading my life for Josephine’s?”
The man leading the group was sweating profusely. He pressed on his walkie-talkie and spoke. “Quickly inform Mr. Mills! Josie has taken Ms. Yowell hostage!”
Josie didn’t try to stop them. She simply kept moving forward. “Everyone, out of my way.”
She dragged the fiercely struggling Josephine, step by step, onto the expansive deck. However, her energy was limited due to the intense mental strain.
Josie lowered her gaze and said to Josephine, “Aren’t you so in love with him that you’d die for him? Why not make a bet?”
“What?”
“Let’s bet whether he cares about you just as much.”
“Of course!”
“Let’s make a bet, then.”
A look of uncertainty crossed Josephine’s face as if a thought had suddenly struck her, and she ceased her struggle.
