Chapter 442
Chapter 442
Ariana turned ashen, then pale, her eyes welling up with tears.
She brought this upon herself.
“Make a choice. I don’t have time for this.” I pressed Ariana for an answer.
Ariana was still not backing down. “I won’t choose. I did no wrong. When Mr. Mitch wakes up, he’ll see justice done!”
What Mitch would face upon waking would probably be Stella’s wrath, and I’d send her the evidence. Then I’d see how the
Hebert family would favor their son.
I didn’t bother arguing with her. “Fine, I give you until midnight tomorrow to decide. If I don’t have an answer by then, that video
will be all over the internet. I have plenty of ammunition to take
you down.”
“Don’t you dare push me too far!” Ariana could no longer defend herself and was just accusing me relentlessly.
I knew she still couldn’t think straight, so arguing with her was pointless. I walked over to the bed and slapped Mitch. “Mitch!
Wake up!”
A handprint appeared on Mitch’s face. He opened his eyes with difficulty, and when he saw me, he started stuttering. “Honey, did
you forgive me? Are you here to take me back?”
He reached to hug me, his body reeking of alcohol.
Before I could push Mitch away, Neil took a few steps forward and landed a blow on Mitch’s arm. Mitch winced and withdrew his
arm. “Why are you hitting me, honey? I’m sorry... Don’t leave, don’t take our children...”
“Get up.” Neil grabbed Mitch’s arm and said coldly.
Recognizing Neil, Mitch managed to get up from the bed with difficulty and steadied himself, but he was still swaying. If it weren’t
for Neil’s support, he might have fallen back down..
Ariana watched Mitch, her face full of grievance. Especially when she heard Mitch begging for forgiveness, her eyes were filled
with resentment...
Mitch, the idiot, only realized his mistake when he was drunk, and he had even been brought here by Ariana.
Most importantly, Ariana had answered a call from Stella, which was going to be hard to explain.
“Mr. Mitch...” Ariana whimpered.
Mitch opened his eyes and looked at Ariana, mumbling, “Who are you? Where’s my wife?”
I didn’t know if he was pretending or if he was really drunk, but his reaction was enough to crush Ariana’s hopes.
Ariana turned pale, her eyes filled with disappointment.
Neil and I ignored her and took Mitch away.
Half an hour later, I arrived home, and Neil helped Mitch onto the bed to rest. Having him at my place, I didn’t need to worry
about Ariana doing anything crazy.
But there was one problem. What if Mitch woke up and found out Yara was with me?
“Mitch, wake up.” Neil was ruthless, even waking his own drunk friend. “Tell me who told you that Yara was with Irene.”
I snapped back to reality. “He’s drunk now, you can’t get anything out of him.”
Neil glanced at me. “The truth comes out when he’s drunk.”
Well, I sat down and watched Neil interrogate Mitch. Under his relentless questioning, Mitch mumbled, “Neil, it... it was you who
told me... you sent me the message!” Upon hearing Mitch’s answer, my face turned cold, and I let out a sarcastic laugh.
It was indeed him, he even wanted Mitch to say it himself.
The atmosphere became awkward. Neil turned to look at me, his eyes full of complexity.
“Isn’t it enough that he said it?” I said calmly. “I told you, even if you were the one who told him, it’s understandable. No harm
done.”
“The point is, I didn’t tell him, okay?” Neil sounded infuriated.
“You said he would tell the truth when he’s drunk. Isn’t this the truth?” I was baffled.
Neil took out his phone, scrolled through it, and handed it to me. “See for yourself. When did I send him a message about Yara?”
I was surprised by his eagerness to prove his innocence. I looked at the screen, which showed the text messages between him
and Mitch. There was no mention of Yara.
After reading the messages, I looked away. “You can delete text messages. It doesn’t mean anything. Let’s drop this. Just don’t
do it again.”
“Am I the one who can’t get my point across?!” Neil was obviously angry. He almost smashed his phone, but in the end, he put it
back in his pocket. He clenched his teeth, his jawline twitching, seemingly trying to suppress his anger. “Irene, have you lost your
mind? Would I deny something I did? If I wanted to tell Mitch, I would have told him at the hospital that day, get it?”
I thought the same at the time, so I didn’t understand why he waited two days to tell Mitch.
I countered, “If it wasn’t you, then tell me, who else could use your phone to message Mitch?”
As soon as finished speaking, the room fell silent.
Without me saying anything more, Neil probably guessed who could do such a thing. Who else could it be but Karina?
I watched Neil, curious to see how he would respond, whether he would defend Karina and argue with me, or suspect Karina
based on my hint?
“I’ll find out.” Neil’s answer was neither defending Karina nor believing me straight away,
solemn promise.
I nodded in agreement.
“Okay. As long as Neil was willing to find out, it was better than blindly
defending thing
to it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been able to bring Mitch back
It was late, so I stood up and said, “You can go home and rest now. Thank alone.”
Just as I finished speaking, Neil’s phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, hesitated for the other end. “Yeah, I’ll be home soon.
Listen to Mommy and your grandparents.”
a moment, but eventually picked it up. His tone softened when he heard the voice on It must be Hiram calling.
A spun around and left the room, choosing not to linger.
A few minutes later, Neil emerged from his bedroom. He swung open the front door of the living room and slipped on his shoes,
“I’m heading off.”
As I sat on the couch, folding Serena and Brandon’s clothes, I merely nodded in response without looking up from my task, “Mm-
hm.”
The door closed again in no time, and the sound of Neil’s footsteps faded into the distance. I discarded the clothing in my hands,
moving into the room where Serena, Yara and Brandon slept. The three of them were tucked in, their cherubic faces soft and
sweet in slumber.
