Chapter A Gamble For Two 46
Chapter 46
"Angie, you've been through so much," Chester murmured, brushing his lips against the back
of her hand.
Angelina was puzzled. Chester was acting strangely, like a completely different person. First, he nuzzled her cheek, and now, he was kissing her hand. Why was he acting like a clingy cat?
"Angie, how about we name her Catherine?" he asked softly.
Angelina thought for a moment. Since this unexpected child had been born safely, she decided to go along with it. Chester would definitely adore their daughter, and if he died, at least the baby would inherit his assets. "Okay. Whatever you say," Angelina agreed.
"That's my girl," Chester said, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.
Chester affectionately patted Angelina's head, making Isadora shift uncomfortably. What was going on with him? That wasn't like him at all.
Emily deliberately avoided looking at them and cleared her throat. "Give me the baby. I'll take care of her."
"No, I'll take care of my own daughter," Chester said firmly.
"No way! Why wouldn't you let me take care of her?" Emily protested. To her, Chester's child was her grandchild. She was ready to take on the role of grandmother.
"Catherine, come to Grandma," Emily said softly, reaching out for the baby. "Chester, give her to me. Let me hold her."
But Chester held Catherine closer.
Isadora sighed. "Mom, why don't you rest? Ches, you should rest too. I can take care of Catherine for a while. I was just..."
Emily smacked Isadora's hand away. "You? You don't even know how to hold a baby!"
"Like you're such an expert," Isadora muttered under her breath.
"If I didn't know how to hold a baby, how did you and Chester grow up?" Emily replied, glaring at her.
The truth was, Emily wasn't very experienced with taking care of children. When the Whitmores were wealthy, she relied on nannies to care for Chester and Isadora when they were younger. In her younger days, Emily had been very social and outgoing. Even in the early days after giving birth, she was restless, and Gerald had to try his best to keep her occupied. But nothing seemed to satisfy her. She always wanted to be out traveling, Chapter 46
taking photos, or meeting with her friends to shop and dance.

Now that she was older, she had settled down and become more sensible and family-oriented.
"Come on, give her to me. I'll hold her," Emily insisted.
"I'm so hungry," Angelina said, feeling completely drained and desperately wanting to eat something.
Chester carefully handed Catherine to Emily. Then, he grabbed a cotton swab, dipped it in water, and gently wiped Angelina's lips.
"No, I want food. I want pizza, burgers, and ice cream," Angelina pleaded.
"You really shouldn't have anything right now," Chester said gently.
Angelina fell silent, frustrated.
"The doctor said you can't eat yet. You have to be patient," Chester explained.
"I'm starving..." she muttered.
"I'll stay hungry with you. If you don't eat, I won't eat," he said.
"No," Angelina protested weakly.
"You really can't eat right now," he insisted.
Isadora couldn't take it anymore. "Angie, listen to Chester. You really need to take care of yourself. After coming so close to death, you can't be reckless with your health." "What are you yelling for?" Chester asked, suddenly turning to look at Isadora. "Why are you raising your voice at her? You're going to scare her." Isadora was taken aback.
"She's been through a lot. You should be more gentle with her," Chester added.
Angelina remained silent.
"You can't eat right now, but I'll stay hungry with you. We'll eat together when you can," Chester said gently to Angelina.
She was so hungry she could eat the bedsheets, but knowing everyone's concern, she held
back.
Chester's eyes were filled with tenderness as he took her hand and was about to kiss the back of it. Angelina quickly pulled her hand away, startled. "Ow..." Angelina murmured in pain.
"Don't move. Where does it hurt? I'll massage it for you," Chester said with concern.
"This isn't like the Chester I know from the novel," Angelina thought to herself.
"No, it's... fine. I'm just in a little pain," she replied.
"Honey, you've been through so much..." Chester said softly.
