Chapter A Gamble For Two 44
Chapter 44
Louis was speechless for a moment. Furious, he tried to kick Chester, but Chester headbutted him, sending Louis stumbling back several steps.
"You and Angie have no feelings for each other," Louis said, his tone firm and arrogant. "You should get a divorce."
Nearby, Emily cradled her grandchild, and her heart softened. Given the Whitmore family's current struggles, Angelina's unwavering support and sacrifices were deeply touching. Emily felt a profound sense of compassion for her. "Divorce?" Emily's face hardened at the word.
"Enough, Louis!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling with anger. "Do you have any idea how much our family has done for you? You owe us more than you can count. Angelina is Chester's wife, and she's part of our family." "What has your family ever given her?" Louis snapped. "Just because you raised her, you think she owes you everything? She nearly lost her life because of your family!"
"You all claim to care about her, but is this what caring looks like? Trapping her here and forcing her to live like this?" he continued, frustration evident in his tone.
"The Whitmores are the most selfish people I've ever met." His gaze burned as he turned to Chester. "And you, Chester, you don't even truly love her. You and Angie got together out of the blue. How dare you force her to have this baby?" Louis' voice was filled with rage. "How do you know I'm not the one who truly loves her?" Chester retorted. Their relationship might have started as an accident, but not anymore.
Louis was stunned by Chester's words. "You said she set you up, but it's clear you were the one who set her up. You've been interested in her for a long time, haven't you? Chester, answer me! You planned this all along, didn't you?" Louis demanded.
"Enough, Louis," Isadora cut in. "Whether Ches likes Angie or not has nothing to do with you. Angie doesn't even like you. You're the one who's obsessed with her and making a scene about this. Why did you even come back?"
"Angie does have feelings for me," Louis shot back. "It's just... I couldn't give her what she needed at the time."
"And you can now?" Chester asked sharply. "What did you and David do?"
Louis paled at Chester's words. Chester's probing questions revealed the truth behind Louis' reaction.
"Fine, just fine. Both of my friends banded together against me, huh?" Chester said, his tone icy. Chapter 44
Louis looked away. "I don't know what you're talking about."
"You know exactly what I mean. I was a fool to trust you," Chester shot back.
"Ches, what are you talking about?" Isadora asked, her face filled with confusion.
"Chester..." Emily said softly, her voice full of concern.
All this time, Chester had been keeping everything to himself, not wanting to worry his family. Growing up alongside his close friends, he always considered them family. Since David and Louis came from modest families, Gerald and Emily had always taken extra care of them. When Chester took over the company, he went out of his way to help them and give them opportunities. He never expected to be helping his own rivals. He was betrayed by the two men he considered brothers.
"Alright, fine. I'm letting this slide for now. Let's just say I was stupid. But remember, I'll come after you and David sooner or later," Chester said, his voice cold.
Louis felt a little nervous, realizing Chester had seen through him. But he didn't think Chester could possibly do anything to him now.
"What's the big deal? I just messed with you," Louis shot back, no longer hiding his intentions. "The moment you hurt Angie, we were done. We're not friends anymore. I'll make you pay dearly for this. I want to see you suffer." Chester's eyes turned cold. "So, it was you and David..."
Louis' expression hardened. "David came to me with the idea, and I turned him down," he said. "I was an idiot then. I was still holding onto our friendship. I should've agreed right away. What reason did I have to say no?
"I treated you like a brother, hoping you'd help me with Angie. I counted on you for everything. And what did I get in return?" Louis glared at him. "I considered you family, yet you betrayed me by taking Angie." Louis' knuckles turned white as he clenched his fists. "Do you have any idea what I went through that day?"
Angelina and Chester slept together that night. When Louis arrived, he saw something he never wanted to see in his life-Angelina in tears and disheveled while Chester sat there, wearing a look of deep regret. He took everything yet acted like the victim. The worst part was that everyone was on Chester's side, telling Louis to calm down. They were too afraid to stand up to Chester, knowing Louis had no power or standing to challenge him.
Louis' idealism and belief in purity shattered in that messy room, on the day everyone urged him to stay calm.
