Chapter 109
Angeline checked her phone and saw a reply from Evander: Okay... Please take care of Floretta.
Angeline wondered if that was all he had to say. She waited for another half a day, but Evander still did not say anything more
than just that short reply, making her perplexed.
Is that it? I thought he would be furious and question me.
Evander’s reaction confused her, but when Angeline recalled how she slapped him back in the car and how he would usually
behave, she was certain that he was still upset.
Resigned, she went to the bedside and caressed Floretta’s head with a tinge of sadness in her heart.
He should not have just left Floretta alone, even if he is angry with me.
Floretta woke up halfway through her sleep, so Angeline gave her some food that she happened to keep for Floretta earlier, and
the two went to bed together after that.
The next day, all the guests in the production team had to finish some tasks in order to get breakfast.
Given Jacob’s unattentiveness, it did not occur to him that Floretta needed anything more than just a few sets of clothes to be
well-equipped for the scorching sun in Summerbank.
Smiling in resignation, Angeline put on sunscreen on Floretta’s body, tied her hair, and helped her put on the light blue uniform
the film crew distributed yesterday before buttoning up her clothes.
“Angel, did Daddy call?” Floretta asked, rubbing her tired eyes and looking at her.
Angeline was caught in a difficult situation by the girl’s abrupt question. However, after a brief contemplation, she figured she
should not worry the girl, so she replied gently, “Of course. He was happy to know you’re safe and even asked me to take good
care of you so you can enjoy your holiday.”
“Really? He allowed me to come? He is not punishing me for it?”
Seeing Floretta’s jaw drop in surprise, Angeline shook her head speechlessly as she finished off the last button.
“Actually, your dad is strict with you only because he loves you. He will understand if you talk to him nicely, so don’t run away
secretly again, all right?” Angeline advised patiently, rubbing the girl’s nose with her long fingers.
Exhilarated, Floretta smiled so widely that her eyes curved into crescent shapes.
“Okay. I’ll do as you say, Angel.”
“Well, well. Did I miss anything? You look like you’re over cloud nine.”
As the duo trailed the charming male voice, Jacob was spotted leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed before his
chest.
When Floretta saw him, she skipped over to him and clung to his leg, chuckling. “Jac, you’re so clever. Daddy really didn’t punish
me. He agreed to let me participate in the production and even asked me to have fun here.”
“Did he?”
Jacob pursed his lips with a gleeful look on his face. “I can’t believe that old fox has finally come around.”
Well, I’m disappointed Evander’s men did not storm into the set. What a bummer.
“All right. They might not be filming this morning, but you will still need to be careful what you say,” Angeline reminded, shooting
a cautionary glare at Jacob.
Then, Angeline, Jacob, and Floretta walked out of their hostel, wearing the same team uniform.
The photographer, who had been standing by at the door since the morning, managed to capture that heartwarming picture on
camera.
When the three arrived at the beach facing their hostel, there were already props laid out at the beach for the game later. There
was also a table full of a wide variety of food for breakfast.
Not long after they reached the beach, members of another two teams also arrived for the shooting that day.
Dressed in floral beach pants, the host stood in front of everyone with a broad smile as he explained the game rules.
“You guys will have to win this game to get breakfast this morning. Each team will send a male representative, who needs to
break the foam core with his face and then jump over the vaulting box. The first person to reach and hug the mother and child
wins and gets to pick what they want for breakfast.”
“Go, Jac! You’re the best! I love you!”
Floretta’s cheers rang loud as she jumped around excitedly at the beach as if she could not wait to get in the game with Jacob.
She was so hyped up and thrilled her behavior formed a stark contrast with the children on other teams, who just stood there
quietly.
Looking at her, Jacob raised his hand in a fist to let her know he would do his best.
“Don’t worry. I will make sure you get a scrumptious breakfast.”
“You’re the best, Jac! I love you!” Floretta exclaimed with love brimming in her eyes, displaying the art of fangirling at its finest.
Her action sparked peals of laughter among the guests, but Angeline quickly lugged the girl back with her face flushed.
Gosh. I hope this doesn’t get recorded. Evander would be so mad if he were to see this.
At that moment, the host blew his whistle, and all the male representatives picked up the foam cores.
Among the amusing contestants trying to break through the boards with their faces, Jacob turned out to be the last to break his
foam core. Still, he was athletically inclined enough to jump over the vaulting box with just a single attempt before he dashed
over to Angeline and Floretta and pulled them into his embrace, panting heavily.
Undoubtedly, Jacob emerged as the winner and earned the right to choose what he wanted for breakfast, which aroused
everyone’s envy.
Overjoyed, Floretta pulled him and Angeline to the table and chose a few cakes.
Just as Angeline took up a food tray, she spotted a familiar person at the hotel beside where they stayed when she looked up.
Her heart skipped a bit as she took a few steps forward to look at the man with his back against her. He was sitting on a chair in
the garden.
Is that Evander?
Angeline was taken aback by her own outrageous thought.
This cannot be. Why would he be here? He is on a business trip in Spaunia. Even if he wants to take Floretta back, he can just
send his assistant here.
“What is it, Angie?”
Jacob’s voice called her back to reality.
“Ah. It’s nothing.”
“Why don’t you try this cake? I heard it’s Summerbank’s local delicacy. It’s pretty good,” Jacob said tenderly as he put a piece of
cake on a small plate before giving it to her.
“Thank you.”
Angeline took the plate from him and dismissed the random thought she had had earlier. I must be seeing things because I didn’t
sleep well in a new environment yesterday.
After the first day of filming at Summerbank ended, the crew served a lavish meal for the guests, and everyone yelled “cut”
around the table.
Since Floretta had been overactive the whole day, she felt so drained at night that Angeline had to carry her to the bathroom to
shower.
After that, she went to bed and drifted off the moment she hit the hay.
When Angeline saw the girl sleeping with her limbs outstretched, she shook her head helplessly. She had just come out from the
shower and had a facial mask on.
Since there were a lot of mosquitoes because of the hot weather in Summerbank, Angeline got some mosquito repellent from
her bag and sprayed it all over Floretta.
Once she had tucked the girl in, Angeline hugged her and lay comfortably in bed.
With the curtains apart, the star-filled sky was left accessible in its entirety as a gentle breeze blew through the cracks of the full-
length window, freshening up the air in the cozy room.
Feeling an ache in her back after standing for a whole day, Angeline dozed off into a slumber not long after she started reading a
book she had placed by the bedside.
Unbeknownst to her, a strapping figure had been waiting on the balcony. When she had fallen asleep, the man pushed the
window open quietly and entered the room.
