Chapter 107
Chapter 107
Her tone faltered as she said sorrowfully, “I’m just afraid Grandpa will try to make me marry someone early again. I still want to
spend a few more years with my mom.”
Simone’s face flushed with anger as she recalled the past, “Your grandfather has lost his mind. Don’t worry, I will never let you
marry someone like Gentry. If he insists, it will be Estelle who had to volunteer.”
Carmella’s face lit up with a smile as she hugged Simone, “Mom, you’re so good to me. I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to
make you happy.”
“My sweet girl!”
The mother and daughter hugged each other and continued to talk for a while. Simone then stood up and said, “It’s about time.
Get dressed, and let’s go.”
Carmella responded, “Alright.”
Carmella’s paintings were being displayed at the exhibition, which was an honor for the Macclain family. Bennett canceled all his
plans and took his wife and daughter to the art show.
In the afternoon, they were planning on taking Terrence and Mrs. Macclain to visit the exhibition again.
When they arrived outside the exhibition, the ladies that Simone had invited, along with Carmella’s classmates, were already
there. Upon seeing Carmella, they all gathered around and praised her endlessly..
Mrs. Reeves laughed, “I heard that only famous painters can take part in this exhibition. Our Carmella is the youngest one here.
Her future is bright!”
Others exclaimed in astonishment.
Simone became even prouder, holding Carmella’s hand and saying, “Our Carmella is indeed gifted in painting.”
Mrs. Reeves urged, “I can’t wait. Let’s go in and take a look!”
Everyone entered the exhibition surrounding surrounded Carmella.
Walking next to Simone, Mrs. Reeves whispered, “You should throw a celebration for Carmella and invite the other ladies as
well. They’ve been mocking you behind your back ever since the Copeland family birthday party incident. You must get your
dignity back this time!”
Simone was tempted but said, “I had planned to throw a celebration for Carmella, but she said she’s still a student and prefers to
keep it low–key. I’m listening to her.”
“Carmella is a good girl. You can arrange a party for her. Honestly, I’ve prepared a gift for her already,” Mrs. Reeves
complimented.
Simone felt even more complacent, “I’ll ask her opinion when we get home.”
While they were talking, everyone had already started browsing the paintings on the wall. The works were all masterpieces by
famous artists, displaying exceptional artistic skills and captivating conception. The crowd was fascinated and admired Carmella
even more for being selected for such a top–notch exhibition.
They continued walking until they reached the middle of the exhibition, Carmella’s painting was nowhere to be seen. Someone
asked Simone, “Where’s Carmella’s painting?”
Mrs. Reeves quickly added, “Carmella’s painting must be the grand finale – the last piece.”
Everyone agreed and continued walking.
However, as they went through all the paintings and approached the exit, Carmella’s work still hadn’t showed up.
Simone felt uneasy and quietly asked Carmella, “Where’s your painting?”
Carmella looked panicked and hastily replied, “I came here with Mr. Mullins yesterday morning and saw my painting right here.
Where could it have gone?”
Simone tried to ease her, “Maybe the staff moved it. Let’s look again.”
They went around the entire exhibition once more, but it was still missing. Some ladies began whispering, and their gazes
towards Carmella changed.
Growing more anxious, Carmella muttered, “It’s impossible... I saw it when I came here yesterday.”
Bennett said in a deep voice, “Call Mr. Mullins right away.”
Simone hastily agreed, “Right, call Mr. Mullins and ask what’s going on.”
Carmella quickly took out her phone, dialed Albert’s number, and as soon as it connected, she blurted, “Mr. Mullins, why isn’t my
painting in the art exhibition?”
