Chapter 609 She Was Free
After Charles passed away, Wendy transferred both her and Chloe's household registrations, so she was no longer a part of the Nelson family. She was free, and even in death, she would remain free.
If Chloe forced her to become a member of the Miller family, she would undoubtedly be upset.
"Alright, if you're not willing, then let's drop the matter."
Amanda didn't pressure Chloe; she understood that Chloe needed time to process everything and didn't want to push too hard.
"Then, Chloe, when do you think you'll have time to come back to the Miller family with us?"
The Miller family was overjoyed to hear that Amanda had found her sister and couldn't wait to meet Chloe.
"Can you give me some time to think about it?"
Chloe had never imagined that she would become the daughter of a wealthy family.
In her mind, affluent families were complicated to get along with, like the Shawn family.
If it weren't for Admas, her situation in the Shawn family would have been even worse.
She feared the Miller family would be the same, saying they wanted her to return to her roots but harboring ulterior motives.
Besides, she could support herself now and didn't need to rush into finding a new family.
"Okay, let's not talk about this for now. Let's eat first!"
Although Chloe felt a weight in her heart, she quietly finished the meal with Amanda.
"I'm a bit tired and want to go back and rest."
Amanda looked at Chloe's expressionless face and nodded in agreement. "Then I'll have Marvin take you back!"
Michael stood beside them. "I'll take Chloe back."
Amanda glanced at Michael, and her eyes filled with displeasure.
"This brat, after how he treated my sister, still has the nerve to show up in front of me!" she thought.
"Mr. Shawn, you may be all-powerful in your own country, but this is abroad, the Miller family's territory. If you upset Chloe, I won't hesitate to make sure the Shawn family never gains a foothold in the international market." Michael pressed his lips, understanding that Amanda's resentment stemmed from his past actions.
"I will protect Chloe and won't force her to do anything she doesn't want to."
Hearing this, Amanda looked at Chloe again. Seeing that she didn't seem to object to Michael taking her back, she finally relented.
Chloe followed Michael back to the villa in silence. After changing her shoes, she immediately went upstairs, entered her room, and locked the door.
Michael, seeing her sad state, felt a pang of sadness.
He walked to the windows and made a call. "Grandpa, did you know all along that Chloe was a Miller?"
The other end of the line was silent for a long time. Finally, he heard Admas' deep and slightly hoarse voice. "Has Chloe met someone from the Miller family?" Hearing this, Michael knew his guess was correct.
He took a deep breath. "Grandpa, what's going on here? How did you know about Chloe's identity?"
Michael didn't want to dwell on it, but he couldn't help it.
"When did Grandpa find out about Chloe's identity? Or did he know from the start?
Was that why he arranged for us to get married?
If so, did Grandpa genuinely think Chloe was a good wife, or was it just because she was a Miller?"
Michael felt his mind was in complete chaos, desperately needing Admas to unravel it all for him.
"I didn't intend to keep this a secret forever, but I didn't expect the Millers to beat me to it."
Admas sighed.
He had been planning to go abroad to meet the Millers and tell them about this a while ago.
But nobody would have thought that Amanda would return to the country at that time and meet Chloe.
Later, he wanted to have dinner with Amanda, but she went back abroad again.
It could only be said that they kept missing each other, which led to him never clarifying this matter with the Millers.
"Grandpa, when did you find out?"
Admas was silent for a moment. "When I was sending Chloe those nourishing soups."
