Chapter 605 Misunderstanding
Vicky pointed at Maggie, who looked fragile and upset.
Her eyes were red. Clearly, Vicky had said something unpleasant to her while they were outside moments ago. Chloe sat quietly, watching the drama unfold.
She was curious how James, a man known for his straightforwardness, would handle the situation with his ex-fiancée and his first love in the same room. James, still recovering from surgery and feeling weak, had managed to keep up his energy while talking to Chloe.
But now, with Vicky and the others in the room, he felt his exhaustion catching up.
Then James uttered, "Do I really need to explain who she is?"
Asher, standing behind Vicky, was not happy with James' response. "James, she's my cousin. Can't you show me some respect?"
Vicky, who was used to being treated with kid gloves, was visibly upset.
"If you're so worried about her, then take her away. Don't make a scene and disturb my rest."
James wasn't going to give in to Asher's demands, let alone Vicky's.
He'd put up with Vicky's behavior before, but he would have fired her long ago if not for Asher.
"James, she claims she's your first love and that you still have feelings for her. She even says she'll be your wife in the future. Is any of that true?" Vicky spat out, clearly aggravated.
Maggie tensed, worried about James' reaction but unsure how to explain herself.
James glanced at Vicky and said, "Whether she's my first love or whether I marry her is none of your business, Ms. Cooper. You're just an employee of my company. I don't see why I should explain my personal life to you." Fuming, Vicky grabbed a cup from a nearby table and threw it at him. "James, you're a jerk!"
Vicky felt she was a better match for James and was furious at his dismissive attitude.
"And who's she? What's her connection to you?" Vicky demanded, pointing at Chloe.
Chloe felt caught in the crossfire, not sure how to defend herself.
"Ms. Cooper, I'm..."
"She's the mother of my child," James cut in.
"What?!"
"Wait, what?!"
The room erupted with surprised voices, adding to the growing chaos.
Chloe turned towards the new voices and saw Marvin and Luna standing there.
"What are you two doing here?"
Marvin was about to respond when Vicky cut him off. "Chloe, how dare you! You're having James' child!"
Vicky had always suspected Chloe had feelings for James, and now her suspicions were confirmed.
"Don't think having a child will change anything. James isn't going to marry you."
Vicky knew James had a deep-seated fear of marriage, not just with her but in general. That was why, despite Chloe's pregnancy, they hadn't planned a wedding yet.
"Why shouldn't you have a wedding? Is Chloe not worthy of one? You have to have a proper wedding!"
Marvin slammed his hand on the table, clearly angry at the thought of not having a proper wedding for Chloe.
"Who said Chloe is marrying James?" Michael finally spoke up.
He had come all the way to Mamaica and wasn't going to stand by while Chloe was set to marry someone else right in front of him.
As the situation grew more chaotic, Chloe was feeling overwhelmed. "Wait, everyone, let's calm down!"
The room fell silent, and everyone turned their attention to her.
"I... James and I..."
"We will have a wedding as soon as possible."
Before she could finish, James took her hand in a show of affection, his eyes soft and warm.
